This is more of people hating on him through who he has made fun of, though. When Gamergay jumped the shark he was the first to call it out and people were pissed at him for it. Also he had just got done with a month or so of putting up with Jade's thirsty simps and opticsfags bitching, and then people were surprised he dipped when it became clear it was stagnating. He was also out front with the leaderfags and saw what they were long ahead of everyone else, and he was right. The only other major leaderfag who didn't turn out to be a complete embarrassment was arguably TotalBiscuit. I don't think I need to point out the dark irony here.It depends when someone first discovers Jim's content.
If a person knows Jim from the Internet Aristocrat days then the stigma of #Gamergate lingers like a bad fart. To a lot of people Jim was crowned king of the retards when the whole anti-SJW thing went into full swing. Jim walking away started the whole, "Jim's a sellout" narrative because he pretty much called out Gamergate as grifting,
If someone finds Jim during his Metokur phase then he's just an old fag internet troll that posts videos about very stupid people. That would be the Sweetie Squad crew that sees Jim as an example of being an annoying asshole online. IBS cemented Jim's reputation as, "The Internet's Asshole" and started a whole lot of drama with old and new enemies alike.
That's why there is this big disconnect between Jim's critics and defenders
On the one hand, some people can't let go of the image of Jim being the sellout Gamergate leader of old. You can spot this group because their biggest complaint is he's making money off hats and subscriptions. Defenders from the gamergate days will point out that Jim took the high road and left the cause on principle. A great deal of bitching goes on over this issue alone.
If someone knows Jim mostly from his Metokur persona then the biggest complaint is his connection with the IBS crowd. Jim had the reputation of not being anyone's friend and that he would make fun of anyone that fucks up. Since Jim went after Tonkasaw, critics demanded he go after Dick and Ralph. Because he didn't it was proof Jim was simping for his "internet friends." Defenders would point out that Jim is just an asshole, and not to take the guy so seriously.
That's kind of why half the fan base doesn't get what the issue with Jim is. They never saw him as a shining example of anything. When critics bring up Gamergate, simping, and grifting his newer fan base doesn't really understand why anyone cares. They just know Jim from a few videos and streams talking about stupid shit.
There is a lot of lore going back more than ten years with Jim, and as a result, there is a lot of info that gets repeated over and over. This thread isn't really the best place to get a big picture of what the hell is going on. Instead it really just a collection of snapshots of other people's impressions from different points in Jim's career.
As for myself, I don't really get how someone can still get so enraged by a guy who's been gone for almost a year, and still feel compelled to write full essays on why Jim is a huge disappointment.
I guess Jim's touch lingers beyond the Twitter grave more for some.
