They could get pretty far just by adding something to their TOS along the lines of "No begging onstream for off-site payments". It wouldn't even be that hard to enforce, given what a small percentage of streamers actually make enough money to be worth noticing.

I agree in principle with that point having some entertainment value for the detractors in the audience, but effectively, it won't actually change the situation on the site. There is literally no way to TOS change the fact that an offscreen whale call can still just as easily be done that would then circumvent any system added in place to skim tip percentage from any contributions collected outside of their processor system. Then we get to the other point, you don't even need a site TOS change to get tip salt, it's already here and has been multiple times this week under the current system just when things were "slow."

I feel like this whole topic is like an embryonic relative to the "no feigning distress" rule that you'll see some here say Phil constantly breaks by mentioning how much tips would help him, like yes, technically I guess you can read that rule as being possibly broken by those statements, but in reality that rule is there to prevent your DSP's of the world from doing like heart (panic too) attack angles on stream to try and convince people he needs medical help and financial help to pay for the incoming EMS ride to the hospital they watching happening if he were to feign one, it's an objection to something the site isn't prioritizing as a problem with a rule designed for something similar to but not exactly what is being pointed out as breaking the rule governing it on site.

The tips percentage rant during the Street Fighter stream was the best part of the whole thing though so I get why it's ginning up as much discussion as it is today however.

Am I dumb or missing something, because bits are still available, right? Twitch takes a significantly smaller portion from bits, as opposed to the supposed 50% with the new celebrations system. So even if they were to enforce it so third party processors can't be used anymore, what's to stop the streamer for disabling/disincentivizing the celebrations system in favor of getting bits. Hell they could even conjure up some bootleg celebration reward like mini hulk hogans raining down on stream instead of fireworks in some third party software. I can already see Phil just disabling that shit on day one like he did with the hypetrain clownery.

Always love to hear DSP shittalking the company that provides 90% of his income and is essentially his employer, only can ban or cut his earnings at a moment's notice.
Except they never will, because he makes them money, and he knows it. They'll have even less impetus to lose him if they start taking a bigger cut and donation levels remain the same.

How much money can he be making them?

I'll defer to the excellent bean-counting @actually et. al. have done but add the note that Twitch takes a cut from every bit and sub purchased, so when some autist buys 500 Tier One subs it's a payday for them.

Phil will juke any attempt by Twitch to get a cut of his tips. “I literally cannot make ends meet if they take half of my income”. It’ll be back to Patreon or a strictly behind the scenes direct deposit type of situation. It’ll really be interesting to see if Twitch starts tightening the clamps on anyone trying to sidestep the fees.

Dave is apparently playing TF2 tomorrow. Think I'll dust off my account, I haven't played in a while since they changed the matchmaking system. Sorta turned every game into either getting steamrolled or steamrolling the other team.

Don't know why he picked a multiplayer game, he's gotta know he's gonna get trolled hard. Even if he turns off voice chat people are gonna be in there looking for the pig.

Oh boy, the salt will be glorious especially since TF2 has now been tainted with aimbots

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't TF2 at this point pretty much a bunch of furfag bots spamming chat with solicitations and headshotting anyone from the spawnpoint? Ah someone beat me to it yeah I've watch a few gaming channels give a sotu on TF2 and from what I saw it's unplayable and Valve doesn't give a shit they got their money already.

I’ve played somewhat recently and I think they updated the game to help combat bots. They got kicked pretty quickly if they did join the few games I played. Still lots of furries though...

The problem will be that the people who still play are pretty good, so maybe there will be some salt. I hope we get some “this is why PC gaming sucks” as he tries to navigate menus and get the game started.

I haven't played in about two years, but yeah it wouldn't surprise me. Even back then LMAObox fags were runnin around constantly, never got how Valve couldn't catch scriptkiddy cheaters that literally advertise the software they're using.

I predict he'll pick pyro and then proceed to M1 + forward the whole time. Either that or Hoovy and bitch when he gets sniped while he's standing out in the open moving very slowly.

The Twitch system could work in streamers favour if done right. The money could be sent directly to Twitch through PayPal, who then forward it to the streamer. That way Twitch take over chargebacks so streamers would make more money short term. Until another exploit is found. Could be PayPal are even pushing Twitch because of all the fun people are having (that would be chargebacks) and will favour Twitch when contested.

Twitch could hold the money for like 24 hours or significantly less than they do with bits. Maybe change their terms of servie to match PayPal in that all chargebacks will be lost after that period? That's the only way they'll pull users away from the other services.

He doesn't look at Twitch as his employer, that would ruin his vision of himself as being an independent mature adult, as well as remind him way too much of what life was like when he went from job to job. As miserable as his life is now, I guarantee you he still prefers it to filling out apps, bumbling his way through interviews, and interacting with co-workers in even the most minimal fashion he could get away with. He sucked at all that twelve years ago, I doubt that he has forgotten or is unaware of how much more he would suck at it now.

Also, even if Twitch were the type to be as petty as he is, and even if he were smart enough most of the time to avoid irking them, the instant that something gets under his skin enough, that goes out the window.

What other services? Both Paypal and Twitch have demonstrated strangleholds on their respective industries. If there were commonly-used alternatives they wouldn't get away with half the bullshit they pull.
