General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

I feel like watching hereditary with a vtuber might kill some of the suspense
Eh, any time I watch one of these “Let’s Watch” videos, it’s because I’ve already seen the thing and just want to see them freak out over what’s coming.

If anything, I think the opposite is true. Most of the Holos have been doxed to varying degrees by JP fans, and the majority of them are fine. There's a site dedicated to unearthing previous VTuber identities - in case you want to learn where you can listen to Shirogane Noel's big tiddy motherly ear cleaning ASMR or something like that: https://vtamainfo.com/soul/
(to be fair, it usually doesn't reveal their face unless it's easy to find with basic information, such as Calliope)

I think it's just egregious cases of someone revealing themselves, rather than old fans digging up info. The auditions specifically ask for people with a track record of producing content, so the vast majority of talents are going to be people who already have their own fan base. The company has to know that when you recruit established talents by the dozen, some of their fans are going to connect the dots.
Also, to add, some of the girls actively drop hints during their debut information or shortly thereafter as a way to make sure their 'old' fanbases find them, like how Pekora's character age was 110 (when she debuted) or how Callie had the dice roll sound effect at the end of her first unveiled song.

Thankfully a vast majority of people who either go hunting for the "doxx" themselves or get it shown to them by others are respectul and keep the two personas separate. Unspoken rules and all that. You're always gonna have dingleberries who think they're funny and try to pull some crap though, like the time I was watching Noel's "other" channel on YT and someone left a "ty Noel" comment, it's gonna happen. Coco deals with it a LOT since everyone and their brother knows who she is. As long as the girls themselves never acknowledge one persona when they're acting as the other, Cover doesn't seem to care.

She just did/still does the ASMR content. Mel and Choco also did that/still do that on the side as well.

Question. Why do we care about who the real person behind the Vtuber is? Specifically the ones that aren’t being lolcows or assholes or whatever.
Personally I tend to get autistically invested into the lore of media that I enjoy. I guess that translates to vtubers and their real lives. I don't think it's malicious for most of us, just curiosity about their life journey and how they got where they are, perhaps getting a peek behind the animated facade and being able to see more of what they're actually like. Things like Ame's parents/grandma passing or Calli getting bullied will really make you see them in a new light and paint a more complete picture of them as people.

I'm gonna give my thoughts, I'd really rather we not talk about and post their dox. On fucking Kiwifarms of all places, I know. Hear me out tho, we dox people that are fucking embarrassing themselves and funny about it. These are just a bunch of guys and girls entertain us and wanna do so through an anonymous avatar, a lot of the are respectable people, especially in Hololive, so I'd rather respect their wishes. That said, this shit's already so spread thanks to Chinks and SEAs either getting it from Japanese net space or doxing them themselves, so I can't act like we're holding back the flood gate. Just my thoughts.

As for the school of thought on knowing them makes you appreciate them more, sure, it's helped me appreciate some people, I'm not gonna say it can't, but I learned it by sheer flood of it on /jp/ rather than learning it by choice and I'd much rather have not know it to begin with. I do get people that like this connection, this deeper understanding as some of put it, it's fine so long as people aren't weird about it, but many are.

This might sound harsh because I’ve heard that “respect their wishes” line parroted so many times already and I think it’s hardly a fair generalization to make. Not only is it not a true statement for many of them who still post publicly under their other identity, but I also find it condescending how so many internet strangers (the white/black knight types from r/Hololive, for example) can claim to know with utter certainty that all chuubas wish to remain anonymous. We can surmise that the Holo contracts likely forbid them from outright revealing their former identity so it makes sense not to be a pest about it during the streams, for instance, but as noted earlier in this thread some of them like the reaper and the shark have left some pretty obvious clues.

Mind you, this is different from the idea that we can choose to respect their privacy, which I think is a more appropriate expression for the concept that you are trying to convey.

For my part, it’s curiosity plain and simple that led me through the looking glass so to speak. I probably wouldn’t even be in this thread if I hadn’t encountered so many people whispering in hushed tones about their sacred duty to protect their precious idols’ secrets.

I'm fine with learning things that are or were publicly available, that's in the KF spirit. A lot of them have side projects I'd want to know about. Fucking Korone's face has been everywhere related to NND publicity events. But none of the corporate girls are lolcows; the drama that's there is really boring shit you can talk about on /snow/ with the other ladies if you really want schizoid posts about Keek or Artemis. There's no point in knowing their addresses or emails or like, education history, really.

Now on the other hand, ripping on chinese incels has been great, and the english vtuber community, or the spanish-speakers, there's some milk there I'd bet. I would love to know more about the vtuber ratking this domo guy is trying to form.

I second this. He's even been showing up in some of the Hololive EN crew's tweet replies lately, and what with his attitude of "English-speaking vtubers is MY community!", I'm interested to see what kind of stranglehold he thinks he'll have over a non third-party/non-independent agency because I'm pretty sure they won't put up with that kind of unnecessary drama.

Similarly I have heard your line about "whiteknights and being condescending" parroted so many times, from people who act like toddlers when they're asked to not do something. I think a lot of people on both sides will try to act like they know what others are thinking or what is okay. I don't think you're one of them, just as much as you don't think I'm one of those drooling whitknights. I appreciate that benefit of a doubt. I do agree "respect their privacy" is more accurate, thank you for helping me better articulate it. For my part, I needed a place to discuss it and at the time Kiwifarms hadn't yet sparked a thread about vtubers so I ultimately went to /jp/, as I knew I'd never get anything actually discussed or translated on a Discord server or a fucking Subreddit. A fun story I could tell you is how I was there when Suisei finally got doxed if you want that story. Thanks for the chat by the way.

I agreed with you on the first point and on the second I actually agree with you even more, following what /jp/ dubs the "Holocaust" (I'm not kidding...), that massive privatization and deletion of archived streams on YouTube, I started paying more attention to the Holos I enjoy watched. I even tracking down Watame, Korone, Fubuki and Mel, so I'm certainly not judging anyone from a "holier than thou" stance. Also, I'm sure you've seen uglier, less flattering older pics of Korone, the NND cunts have a huge hate boner for her, although I would bet you've heard of it. Now then, I've utterly neglected this place, what's this /snow/ nonsense and something about a ratking? I know that one dude SrPelo told his fans to trick Korone and others into saying obscene shit in Spanish months ago. Also, don't get me started on the Chinese and their bulltshit.

Some "lolcowesque" moments I've noticed in the last few months of observing vtubers:

- Chaturbate ethots getting big "hoes mad" level of mad because ProjektMelody draws more weebs than they get paying simps for showing their irl faces

- Digitrevx, the designer of ProjektMelody's model, having a twitter feud with GHOSTDATA over Fentanyl Floyd riots that ended with GHOST blocking him

- Digitrevx having a falling out with Melody over contract and then going full lolcow and stating that other vtubers like IronMouse are only popular because Melody and having twitter battles with everyone

- Well known simps getting discouraged because their favorite vtubers are getting too big to pay attention for them

- Silvervale getting big mad over people mentioning IronMouse getting partnered in her stream

- ZR getting accused of sexism and inappropriate actions/comments and then shunned from the community

- Fluffy admitting to fucking a teenager

- Pokimane talking shit about vtubers and then having a vtuber avatar made for her to use once she realized the money she could make. She caught a lot of shit for it and I haven't seen her using it much since.

And that's just from popping in once in a while to observe discord chatter and twitter posts or watching a few streams of popular english vtubers, I can only imagine what shenanigans the hololive folks get up to.

Pelo's a renowned shitposter on social media. I don't think he had any ulterior motive or any sort of gayop in mind other than producing "lulz" on that one.
I don't think he did either.

@Sithis Hololive drama is boring, it's what flavor of antis are mad at them this month and besides that is a manager fucking up something that should've been simple.
