Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

This isn't always possible though due to a number of reasons (usually legal issues with the developer/publisher) and it can end up with emulation/piracy as the only option once the old hardware stops working (Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, The Matrix: Path of Neo, anything by Silicon Knights, etc)
Of course, that's always a big issue. Take the original GoldenEye on N64 for example, it's all tied up in rights problems and will probably never see a re-release. That's also why THQNordic releasing an HD remake of SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom was such a big deal because licensed games getting a re-release at all is exceedingly rare.

I think it's good when the developers are able to re-release older games, but the unfortunate reality is that there are countless games out there that can only be preserved via emulation and people making ROMs out of them. That's where I believe emulation becomes necessary when it comes to preservation.

Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition is inferior to the OG North American release because you have to beat the game an extra time to get to the hardest difficulty.

Metro 2033 is better than Metro: Last Light. Also, 2033 Artyom VA > LL Artyom VA.

Is that really an unpopular opinion? Everybody I know agrees with me that 2033 was the better of the two. Don't remember the VA quality, though, other than it sounded Russian.

Oh hey, we've reached page 343. Any unpopular opinions about Halo or Marathon?

I've only been playing Halo casually thru the Master Chief Collection. And I gotta say out of the original 3 I think Halo 2 is the weakest entry.

Something about Halo 1's mechanics are just satisfying even two decades later. Yes the levels are the same but in reverse but it's fun to play and the battlefields are nice and large. Halo 3's 360 era visuals have aged very well. 3's weapons are fun to use and it's clear Bungie had a big budget with that game.

Halo 2 on the otherhand just doesn't feel very good to play and I think dual wielding is kinda stupid. I hate how at least one-third of the screen are the guns themselves.

Also Reach is shit. But I think that's a common belief among Halo fans.

Halo is to Unreal Tournament what a bicycle is to a Porsche.

Here's some late heresy:
I don't like Nier: Automata. I found the gameplay to be incredibly repetitve and dull. I saw Platinum on the box and had visions of Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising in my head. Instead I got a game where you mash X on the same grey robots. Sometimes you have to do an underwhelming shmup sequence that reminds you of all the other good shmups you could be playing instead.

>But what about the story?
Playing games for the story? You know books exist, right? Take the most amazing game story and put it in a book. Congratulations. You have created the literary equivalent of those dinosaur romance books on Amazon. Just not as funny or interesting.

If you want a compelling game with a "philosophical" story about androids and consciousness check out The Talos Principle.

I really wanted to like Nier but it just bored me to tears.

The Mass Effect Legendary Edition announcement reminded me of one:
I think anyone who actually believes in the Indoctrination Theory for ME3 is genuinely retarded.
