I think it's more that Biden wants to be the adult in the room and wait for the science to be settled before declaring victory. It doesn't matter in the slightest what the world thinks of America's electoral system. The legitimacy of elections is something that's put into question by America when they want to topple a government. The only geopolitical rivals the US has aren't legitimate democracies anyway and Europeans already see this as a complete shitshow. Optics are out the window.

As for the election, it's a clusterfuck like anyone with a brain could have predicted. I think Biden may win it, but what gives me tingles is the fact that the polling industry has been exposed for the biased hacks they are, and the media's ratings parade is as naked as the emperor. I may not have gotten all I wanted out of that vote for Trump 4 years ago, but damn if it didn't pay off in ways I wouldn't have expected. I really only voted for him to put the DC bureaucracy, the neocons and neolib apparatus on notice that the people are still watching. Constitutional republic we are, but democracy is how we put our leaders in power.

I expect a long court battle out of all this.

Old 8-bit systems aren't what you need to worry about. They're so simple it's relatively easy to see if anything fishy is going on. Simple microprocessors are all that's needed for vote counting anyway, they're basically just counters that might spit out a paper backup ballot. The shit that you should worry about are "new" systems that run full-fledged modern desktop operating systems like Windows or Linux. If there's anything malicious in the system, it can be like finding a needle in a haystack. Thinking that old always equals bad is just your inner consoooomer talking.

He knew he was going to be fucked by them and yet he insanely discouraged his voters from using the same tactic, as if there would be X-ray vision at every post office that would magically keep votes for him from being counted and somehow, his voters couldn't use the same mechanisms as anyone else to confirm whether they were. Postal workers that steal mail are good at making your letter look untampered, due to having to handle damaged packages for years. If a standard stock like a mail-in ballot envelope is used, they can easily swap things around, which means that you wouldn’t notice a thing if they had spares lying around. IIRC the Postal Workers Union endorsed Biden wholesale, which can be seen as a red flag. Trump made the right call given the waves of hate directed at him 24/7. He probably saved a good chunk of his votes my encouraging voting in person.

I don't see why people are saying Trump tripped himself up by telling his supporters not to vote by mail. He made a big kerfuffle about telling his voters they can vote by mail, but they should try to vote in person anyway just to be safe.
I don't know if his concern was that they'd be conveniently lost in the mail or what, but I don't think this had any impact on the outcome of any part of this election.
