Did people not wash their hands before this? The lack of soap in the stores after the media told everyone to panic was infuriating, but that's because my household tends to use quite a bit of the stuff.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WJW)– Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said a new order placing significant restrictions on social activities is coming soon.

Ohio Gov. DeWine issues updated mask mandate with penalties for business violations

The governor addressed Ohioans Wednesday evening on the coronavirus pandemic, as opposed to his usual news conferences on Tuesday and Thursday.

DeWine reminded residents of health orders issued in April that limit gatherings to no more than 10 people. He said that limit is still in effect, and it applies to public and private events.

“Despite this order, we have seen rampant spread of the virus as a result of banquets, wedding receptions and social gatherings following funerals. We have seen great tragedy associated with such events. It’s not the ceremonies causing the problem. It’s the party afterward,” DeWine said.

The governor said the forthcoming order will require everyone to be seated and masks unless they are actively eating or drinking. The order will also prohibit games and dancing. He said congregate areas can no longer be open.

Gov. DeWine says state to consider closing bars, restaurants if trends continue

Also during his address, DeWine said the state will be forced to close bars, restaurants and fitness centers if the COVID-19 trends continue. The issue will be examine in one week.
As usual, he's full of shit. I'm convinced the massive spike is people catching the flu, then getting COVID tested and coming up positive because amplification. Unless COVID has Flu destroying powers, it's the only thing I can come up with as to how there's no Flu in Flu season. Also, the dumbass wants to continue to tank state tax receipts when they're going to have to be costly repairs to the Brent Spence Bridge down here in Cincy. Some dumbasses had a nasty enough wreck on it that they might have to keep the main bridge from Ohio into Kentucky shut down for possibly weeks. 275 is an absolute shit show right now.

At this point, I honestly think the dumb fuck had no plan beyond masks and now that they haven't done anything he's just lashing the fuck out. I mean, masks don't work against the Flu.

I like this.

Looks like San Diego county has moved into the purple so gyms, indoor dinning, and some retail have to close up. Outdoor dinning is still allowed but space is limited for most places and the temps are dropping. This is my third time in this area over the past few years and I can tell the downtown is looking empty. The fun stuff to do that is touristy is operating at reduced capacity ( even though you have to pay full price). There are a few Republican areas in the eastern part of the county that are nice yet I was disheartened to see all the celebrating this weekend over the Biden win.

I'm coming from a red state where people barely wear masks yet when I hike around here people are wearing them hiking up mountains. I think the people are definitely into the whole mask and covid thing. They will literally put one on when they're passing you on the trail.
Tomorrow is the last day I would be able to legally go to a gym here or eat inside a restaurant. I feel bad for the people at the work there I don't know what they're supposed to do. The government's telling them they can't work. This whole thing is a nightmare and as bad as 2020's been I don't even want to think about 2021.

I hate how a "spike in cases" always keeps coronapanic going.

Any end of this insanity in sight yet?
Don't worry, just shelter in place for six mote weeks, and it'll be aaaaaaall over.

I never imagined governments would self-inflict a depression, but here we are.

Banks are suggesting taxes on non-participation in society to pay for welfare programs, 5% for those who work from home as they do not eat at restaurants as often and spend less on transportation.
Do something? Tax
Don't do something? Tax
Live? Tax
Die? Tax

And others (like myself) have been skeptical of this coronapanic crap from day 1 - especially when compared to the (relative lack of) reaction to the swine and bird flus. I hope this coronapanic insanity helps some to see Current Year "journalism" is crap.
There was a lot of media panic about those diseases as well (SARS, Swine Flu, Bird Flu, etc). This is just the first time it has been widespread, so they were allowed to go into full-blown doomsday mode.

It's only 6 and the temperature's already in the 50s, I sure as fuck am not going to be eating outside. People on Reddit and Facebook have been quick to say "Restaurants just need to move everything outside and get heat lamps and tents!" Oh yeah, with all of that sweet, sweet restaurant industry money they've been rolling in for the past 6 months? And the vast expanses of outdoor space every restaurant has to accommodate outdoor dining? It never ceases to amaze me how fucking naive people are, and how ignorant they are of how businesses actually work.

Retail is not getting the axe this time, so I don't think it'll suffer as much this time around. Stores and shopping malls are limited to 25% capacity, which is very dependent on the size of the building and what your store actually sells. I think with my store 25% capacity would be about 300 people. I don't think there's been 300 people in my store since like, the first time we opened at midnight on Black Friday, which was 6 or 7 years ago? We're definitely not even pushing 100 on a day-to-day basis. Even Walmart and Target are not that crowded anymore.

What I don't understand is why museums and zoos/aquariums are still on the list. As far as I can tell, none of these have had any outbreaks at all. I was so stoked when the Air and Space Museum in Balboa Park said they'd defy the orders, but they caved and changed their mind the next day.

Another thing San Diegans on the internet love to say is that NOBODY IS WEARING MASKS!!! but I work with the public 5-6 days a week, and I usually leave the house on my days off, and seeing someone out and about without a mask is so rare that it actually surprises me when I do see it. Which is depressing. Even the fucking homeless are wearing masks.

That's the thing. We were always going to get a second wave. Cold and flu season. Too bad most places didn't make an effort to pass this around among healthy people before we all huddled inside for the winter. Now things are gonna get interesting as places that were relatively free-wheeling (Sweden et. al.) have immunity protections and wiggle-room and the heavy-handed lockdowneers flail around in panic enacting even more stringent feel-good measures as things ramp up outside of their control.

The end will come when a critical mass of angry people decide to stop even pretending to obey the rules, and/or the media class get upset.
They have successfully convinced people you can do anything you want if you wear the mask. That whole "minimizing travel and unnecessary interactions" thing went by the wayside. Conveniently forgotten. If you wear the mask you are all good. It's those OTHER PEOPLE who are screwing things up. Not you, the good and pure mask-wearing person.

I've been saying this for a while, but the worst thing about COVID is the way it's made being a sanctimonious moralizing cunt not only culturally acceptable, but applauded. It encourages people to stop reading, stop thinking, stop asking critical questions and just wag their finger at everyone in disgust.

These people ironically screech: "YOU MUST HAVE NO EMPATHY!!" at those who've lost businesses, livelihoods, and are struggling physically and mentally and are crying out for help. They are calling humans who do humans things "murderers" and "mass killers" who are "selfish and evil" without the faintest bit of self-awareness.

It's help cultivate a culture of blind mass panic complete with never-ending autistic safety protocols and completely arbitrary rules.

Give it time. It'll take a while, but it will implode. Sort of like how the SJWs are now eating their own.

They don't, they are seeing the same surge as the rest of Europe and North America is seeing.

Here's an interesting note from a twitter scientist - a prediction:

Will this be correct, or will the death count around Dec 2 be higher or lower?

COVID-19 Lockdowns Are Starting Soon — Here’s What You Need To Know

For a brief moment, much of the country seemed to forget about the coronavirus pandemic because of the high-stakes presidential election. But highly contagious viruses do not stop just because people would like to focus on something else, and experts have been warning for months that the United States should be prepared for another wave of increasing cases. That wave is here — and lockdown measures are imminently to follow.

Right now, there have been over 10 million COVID-19 cases nationwide and over a quarter of a million deaths. The country has been breaking the daily records for new cases in the past month alone: As of Tuesday, the seven-day average was more than 123,000 new cases per day. As of Wednesday, 65,368 people were hospitalized around the country with COVID-19, which is the largest number at any point so far during the pandemic. Nearly the entire country is seeing uncontrolled community spread of the virus, not long after re-opening measures were instituted in most states. But with the rising numbers only expected to get worse, many states are reversing course and putting lockdown measures back in place.

On Wednesday, New York announced new restrictions and paused elements of their re-opening process. “This is our LAST chance to stop a second wave,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio wrote on Twitter. “We can do it, but we have to act NOW.” The new restrictions include limiting gatherings to 10 or less people indoors, and closing restaurants and bars at 10 p.m.

Other states are following suit. New Jersey Gov. Philip D. Murphy put new limits on indoor dining, Connecticut issued limits on gatherings and reduced capacity for dining establishments, and Massachusetts has instituted overnight stay-at-home orders. Ohio issued a mask mandate, and other states, like Iowa, North Carolina, and Indiana, have put limits on indoor gathering. California has banned indoor dining again and paused the re-openings of schools. Utah and Maryland also began tightening restrictions on public indoor gatherings.

How strict the limits become and how many states adapt them is yet to be seen, but with cases spiking the way they are, people across the country should expect their state to follow suit with at least some new restrictions. People should also brace themselves for lockdowns in some places as numbers go up, which will be difficult as outdoor gatherings become harder as the weather gets colder, and will put a damper on the winter holiday season.

“You should be prepared for how bad it’s going to get,” infectious disease doctor William Haseltine told The Daily Beast, adding that “we’re not even near the peak.”

I recently BTFO'd a visiting relative who pulled that shit. We were watching football and they made some comment about how the coaches were half-assing their masks. I was like "welcome to the real world. masks aren't practical in many professions. coaches have to yell to be heard." Cue outrage from the very peak of mount pompous jackass.

It quickly turned into a big argument and I debated it in good faith for a bit bringing up all the things discussed here. But finally I had enough with the appeals to emotion and dropped the fucking hammer.

"It's real hard to believe your moralizing bullshit when the only reason you are here is because you drove 200 miles to another state to get your hair done at your favorite hair salon."

Which was expected. However Sweden is playing it different. Look at the death rate. Way behind the others. They are focusing their efforts on protecting the vulnerable rather than one-size-fits-all applications of policy across the population. They don't give a shit if a healthy person gets it. They'll be fine. It's the vulnerable who matter.
