The audience basically told her she had mate there and she followed their shitty advice. Even if she did have mate in 2, there were a bunch of ways Amelia could have blocked it from happening such as sacrificing a pawn or just taking the Queen with her Bishop if she tried to go after the Rook for the 2 move mate.
