General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

The "no chit chat" rule is a JP more. Those dudes love rules as much as they love tut-tutting rule-breakers. I'm not surprised at all that it's EN and ESP fans disregarding it and and as shit as twitch culture is, I'd chalk that up more to the average twitch viewers' age (<21 ie not fully-formed brain age). No god-fearing EN fan is going to want to be a passive JP "oo kawaii kusa" bot.

That does put the onus of not being fucking annoying on the viewer though.

There's been a noticeable influx of newfriends on this thread after holoEN debut that come here asking to be spoonfed dox or posting exclusively about v-tubers they personally dislike. If this continues this thread should be plagued.

Although this is in off-topic I think we should treat it like a general happenings thread or a lolcow early warning watch so we have background and context when a lolcow thread eventually gets made. Nobody here gives a shit which chuuba you personally like or dislike. If you post, it should be something that either applies to industry in general or be about some kind of happening. If you have a narrative, post it on /jp/ or provide some argument or evidence for it.

Here's a happening:

Virtunix, a Indonesian v-tuber "agency" has self destructed before launch after the founder Fox Cho cut ties, leaked confidential information and then ran with the money. Apparently Fox Cho had a history of being a opportunist who hired people to do translations for him to raise his profile. I think this guy is worth keeping an eye on if allegations are true.

top post:

You know what's worse than a hololive idol wannabe?

A YAGOO wannabe. No legit company would be announcing anything now of all times. A legitimate talent agency takes years of work just to get started. Anyone aspiring to accomplish this should follow the example of Gyari, but that would require lots of genuine talent and incredible work ethic.

You shoulda posted his YT community post, it reeks of salt.

You know what’s interesting? Ever since I found out about the darker side of idol fandom, I always wondered how exactly people would act like that or why people would get so hateful. I’ve seen it covered in anime and such, but it’s still one of those “how the hell can people act like that” sort of thing.

The whole Vtuber stuff growing in America has shown me exactly how that shit can start up, and it’s pretty disturbing.

There is a reason why this is in the MULTIMEDIA subforum and not Lolcow or Internet Famous subforums.
If a VTuber becomes a cow, the appropriate thread should be created in the relevant subforum.
This a general thread about VTubers.
Don't be a backseat mod.
However, I agree that general happenings within the industry should be posted here.

you're right. I got used to this thread having the tone of a community watch thread for a long time. I'll wait for one to pop up before I post anything drama oriented.

I want to write a post about how Hololive discussion was de-facto banned from futaba channel since 2019 because of niconico salt but it's hard because nothing really gets archived there.

Cover's decoupling from niconico burned a lot of bridges and pissed off a lot of JP diehards.

they freaking did it again
You know, I recall that guy mentioning how much he has to commission Tyrone to do these in Calli's fan Discord and, basically, it's the equivalent of a red superchat (or two).

I seriously question where the hell people like this come up with this kind of money to spend so frivolously.

As much as I like simping for youtube alternatives, niconico is a dead end site and even the JP audience kind of recognizes this. Their one good feature is the chat overlay but the rest of the site is firmly locked in a kind of 2000s cryostorage and you can see this by how much better their flash player performs than their HTML5 one in a lot of circumstances. I can understand not wanting to go to the whito piggo hellscape that is youtube but it's objectively a better platform for doing streams on.

Fucking Christ. Ina stalemated against the CPU when she had a very clear checkmate.

Have a full-time grown-up job. Don't live in an expensive city. Don't have a family. Don't have excessive debt. Don't have any expensive hobbies or habits. - Congratulations, you are rich. Spending a thousand here or there to commission furry porn or meme videos is no problem, when you have nothing else to spend your money on.

Don't forget the dude that's commissioning Tyrone is likely also getting donations and ad money from the videos.

PlatinumKnight is very active in other communities and is a pretty cool dude, so I'm fine with him using his oil baron money to make shit like this.

For the price of this video you could have actually bought a couple 3080s.

Regarding some of the stuff I saw earlier and wanted to comment on but couldn't because mobile is a bitch:

the TT stuff regarding Calli always had people second guessing it but I think most of the community saw it coming due to the series of tweets. The issue wasn't whether or not she was gonna be in the studio but how they were going to have her there to begin with, which was a bit of impressive editing. I remember Joey interviewing Ai and what happened there was he was essentially talking to a portrait monitor that had her model on it. As far as normies invading hololive and it being a detriment to the community, I think it's too soon to tell how bad things are gonna get right now. They're shit now because they're starting to get some attention from outside their own niche community, but I doubt we're gonna have any problems like with how anime is treated in a post Funimation world. Most overseas fans hate the bandwagoners just as much as the JP fans, and they'll be quickly ousted.

To answer a question regarding the thing about putting rules in their standby screens: Youtube unfortunately doesn't allow Twitch functionality to have pop-ups that force you to read rules before chatting. Most they have is a pinned comment at the top of the chatbox, which 3 people have so far used for community management: Ina, Amelia, and Coco. Ina and Amelia make it a point to say "don't backseat me" because it's such a huge problem, while Coco uses it to say "sorry but gotta pay the toll if you wanna be a fuckstick". Gura sometimes uses it but it's mostly for shitposting as her chat is way too fast for backseating to bother her anyway. Calli and Kiara don't use it at all because their demographics tend to be more polite in understanding that Calli's a clumsy alcoholic who fails so bad she fucked up alcoholism and Kiara because he fans are probably the biggest simps out of all of them.

The evidence that Calli's a channer seems flimsy at best. If she is, she's not that deep in it just because her lifestyle doesn't really allow her too much free time to lurk or do much ego searching before she started with hololive. Even then, she's mentioned before that Gura's more net savvy than she could ever hope to be (she didn't know what fucking "yeet" meant) so she may have only started exploring shit being said about her in some circles because the blue gremlin told her about people talkin' shit to begin with.

Frequent red superchats and frequent spending on expensive commissions both constitute expensive hobbies/habits though. PlatinumKnight does both.

Honest to God, I would've bought a couple of 3080s first before I dropped simp money. Make sure my bases are all covered first.

Then again, people like PlatinumKnight probably already have monster builds considering the amount of money they tend to drop on a regular basis.

And if they don't, then they're just insane at that point. There has to be a fine line between generosity and insanity, with maybe a tinge of desperation mixed in.

They're not even trying to hide it at this point.
This one is so on the nose it's actually funny to me. But it's a Literally Who so I don't really care, people will probably lambaste her about it until she cuts the shit.

Question for anyone who may know - I understand why Choco is sitting out the Sports Day event today, but does anyone know what's up with Nene and Flare not participating? Just curious.

Also, regarding the Sports Day, the retard chinks are planning to try and ruin the event with spam, because lol.

On the other hand, "free land" chat is how you end up with autistic/toxic Twitch culture.

In happier news, Rushia blesses our ears once again. Turn your volume up for this one.
:heart-full:

thank goodness this rushia video came with a volume warning

They're not even trying to hide it at this point.
