But don't you know, the technological singularity is about to happen in a few decades! Whoever controls the values in that crucial period will get to program the founding stock of singularity bots, essentially deciding which side their nigh-omnipotent creations will take. That's why the Left (the most technocratic faction) knows that it's now or never, and is pulling out all the stops.Alright. I'm seeing plenty of both thought processes here and other sites, and it's tiring to see so many people act like the status quo will always continue unabated.
More seriously I wonder if people in the Dark Ages thought that castles would make the Franks rule everything forever, and in the Renaissance that cannon would result in unassailable monarchies, and in the early Bronze Age that bronze would result in permanent extreme centralisation of power (because bronze weapons & armour were absurdly OP and expensive for the time, and required extensive trade routes to make).
