Character dialogue and task chains/interests are no longer character specific, there's less dialogue, and if theres a seasonal event taking place you have to sit through constant loops of the characters talking about how much they love the event. On top of this, mister resetti is completely redacted as a fun easter egg character and relegated to a useless helicopter function that nobody uses. The reasoning for this is the same reason he was relegated to an unlockable and toned down in new leaf, which was due to parent groups complaining he scared their children or something. (I'm partially wondering if this is also the reason why the ability for villagers to get fucking pissed at you if you give them something they dislike got axed.)

On top of those two things, The fact Seasonal events are locked to "free seasonal DLC updates" instead of just being a thing in the base release of the game is just utter shit. If someone without an internet connection buys the game, they get nothing. It's not like the Splatoon games where the game's updates were all essentially actual expansions on the base multiplayer online aspect game, It's just base animal crossing content being added back in in slow dribbles and taken away when the season ends with the next season update. Thing is, Knowing nintendo's track record with game support, eventually those updates are gonna stop happening in a year or 2 and people will be trapped with only 1 seasonal event per year.

The game has potential and it fucking sucks how much shit was fucked with to unnecessarily "modernize" it instead of just adding more features
