I really like how the "educator" OP also forgot that countries that aren't the United States exist and many books that are considered classics come from those other countries. It's almost like they have an extremely narrow understanding of culture and history or something.

And lol at that one comment; "A POC no less!" Your skin tone alone can not make you an expert on literature.

All YA authors deserve the bullet. Time to start over.

Jess gives no fucks.

Do these people not understand what a classic is? Maybe we'll regard contemporary works as classics in 30 or so years. There's a reason you don't hear hear people call books written this millennium as classics.

I am all for adding more contemporary books to a school curriculum, a lot of the classics can be hard to follow and it can turn kids off of reading. I still think reading the classics is very important to learning about the evolution of literature and cultures. Half the time the books are classics because they actively pushed back against the racist/sexist/homophobic ideas of their time. If anyone reading To Kill A Mockingbird comes out assuming Harper Lee is a racist because she used the word nigger and the black man was mistreated missed the point.

You'd think the internet of all places would be more diverse but way too many websites are Americacentric.

Pointing out her skin color is kinda racist. Not in the way that 'oh, she's black so any any and all disagreement is bad' but when you're implying she can't handle disagreement because she's black, you sound racist. For a group that cares about microaggressions SJWs sure do commit a lot.

Oh, they have other reasons to go after To Kill a Mockingbird. One is the idea that a woman might falsely accuse someone of rape is anathema. Believe All Women, yes? More commonly, you'll see it attacked on the grounds that it propagates the white savior myth.

I wish I was making this up.

If that's all they got out of that book, they lost their right to tell me (or anyone else for that matter) that I'm wrong for my perspective on the matter.

Oh, yeah, the "white savior" Attica Finch who never really cared for the black man but was this close to becoming a pariah by his peers for daring to act as a black man's defense attorney. Which was his job. I get that nuance is difficult to grasp for the illiterate, but holy shit.

Racists act the way they do because of superiority, even against their "own kind" who don't follow the narrative. So the "white savior" trope they like to harp on about makes it even more hysterical they view it as a negative because to most normal people, someone who's a "savior" is someone who's above the influence and is someone to look up to for inspiration. The "savior" in these stories also tend to die/get imprisoned by the hands of other whiteys for viewing blacks as human. Becoming a pariah is actually the good end since they at least get to continue living life as normal minus having friends.

Normal people, yes. Rotbrains start calling books/movies "cult classics" the second they come out, if they tow tge line hard enough.
Yeah, any time I see a book, that hasn't even been released yet, called "a new classic" or part of any braindead bookclub (New York Times, Oprah, etc.), I already know it's going to be a fart-huffing slog of a text.

I would expect the majority of English-language websites to be Americacentric. That's just the combination of language + US being the largest English speaking country. It only becomes an issue when the champions of diversity and inclusion forget that the world outside the US exists. (At least American right-wingers are honest and will tell you straight they don't give a shit about other countries.)

Even worse, this is her fucking agent throwing her under the bus. As you can imagine, both his and Cluess’s apologies did nothing to slake the Twitter blood mob. How sheltered of a world these idiots live in to consider Tweets violent! And would anyone want to be represented by someone like this? She should do two things immediately. 1. Only use Twitter to promote her work. 2. Fire her agent.

I've mentioned that cuck upthread, he's a big player in the SJW YA world - he represents Angie Thomas, who "wrote" The Hate You Give, and also the writer of the Gay Simon book. There's another called Ebony Elizabeth who wrote some nonsense about black representation in fantasy, called Black Fantastic or something.

He also refers to Columbus Day as Indigenous Peoples Day, so he's pretty much a turbofag. Brooks Sherman.

There are a lot of lulcows and sane people in the thread where Brooks 'fires' Jess.
First up is Margery, because she stood out due to her calling Twitter an educational space.

Ofc she's autistic.

This was an interesting reply.

It is interesting to note that a lot of the replies critical of him have more likes than ones that agree with him. You'll see a dozen or more likes on comments calling him out but only maybe 3 or 4 on a comment thanking him. Some have more, some have less, but overall, this is not well received. In fact most of the people who are praising him are being questioned (as you can see above).

If someone is acting unprofessional on social media, I can't say I blame someone they work for not wanting to be associated with that (considering the number of people who will call your boss if you use mean words online), but if the tables had been turned and she'd been speaking out in favor of #disruptthetexts I doubt he'd have reacted this way. This isn't about being unprofessional, this is about her saying something he didn't like.

Here's a little bonus tweet, just because it made me laugh.

Thanks for that, I'm not very good at twitter so didn't see all this!

Where was the racism? It’s not racist to just disagree with someone.
Nowhere, I really hope the author sues him for libel. Making a snivvelly apology on her behalf was bad enough, but to completely throw her under the bus and call her racist? Scumbag

He's always Trump-sperging on twitter, and seems to be partially responsible for the death of YA, with all the crappy diversity hires he represents, so I really do think he's verging on thread-worthy? As I said, even if it doesn't take off it'll still fuck up the results when he's googled...
