Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

I put some timestamps in the comments of the video, but it's a bit too long and disjointed to commit to writing up so I'll skip to the most salient bits. I left full timestamps in the comment section.

AFTERLIFE WITH NASSER #22 - BACK ON THE AIR

The first pertinent part of the stream was when Martina Markota joins at 3:17:00 after an absence of several months in the CG community to go hangout with Nasser. She gives us an update on Lady Alchemy promising at least one major lolsuit over the property with the original artist, kekistan memelord guru Maz/"Major Grubert". The details of the trainwreck of Martina's project aren't exactly fresh in anyone's memory, but the details were heavily written about here back at around page 750 (mid-March) for those curious. From what I'm able to gather, Martina's trademark on "Lady Alchemy" was only applicable to "entertainment services in the nature of live musical, dance and burlesque shows by a professional entertainer" and Maz is allegedly applying for a spite trademark on the depiction of Lady Alchemy in comics (although it has not come through).

Long story short: an aspiring "alt-right" comic creative team wanted in on Comicsgate in the beginning but saw what happened to Vox Day and Jon del Arroz and figured they'd use Martina Markota and her "Lady Alchemy" burlesque IP as a facade for their pre-made comic project. Depending on what you are inclined to believe, Martina was either willingly complicit in this at first or was led to believe this was her project when it was not. What matters is that in the process of trying to hide their involvement, they gave Markota actual legal and executive control over the project and she promptly fired them when they turned in shoddy art where the titular lead character was a side character in 'her own' graphic novel. Martina went on to spend the next year listlessly reading from art textbooks and not getting a new creative team together while the writer/artist spent the same time waging a PR war against her among the extremely influential groyper/catboy aficionado community instead of just trying to make another comic.

When's Lady Alchemy coming out? Beats the hell out of her.

Serendipitously, the other major happening on Nasser's stream was Jon del Arroz/@TheCosmicWarrior himself accepting an invite from Nasser for a one-on-one with Frog at 3:46:10. After a congenial 12 minute discussion about the state of politics in America, Frog broaches the subject of the state of relationships between JDA and himself. From Frog's perspective, JDA's fundamental nature as a troll and provocateur left him with a sense of fundamental insincerity about his real commitment to his professed hardline political positions and to Comicsgate. Jon's reply was that, with what he perceived as Frog's willingness to go with the flow and turn on him in the face of mob pressure, his impression of Frog was much the same. The tone of the conversation is much more dispassionate and detached compared to the similar dialog between Smiller and Frog.

As they go over the past two years of trashing each others' work and recriminations, neither is terribly interested in the minutae of their long shared history of sperging and gayops that comes with being in Comicsgate .Jon says that the Biden election and the grim portents it holds for all conservatives has motivated him to turn over a new leaf where he is simply no longer interested in fighting anyone who is "right-leaning and politically active" anymore; he considers Frog to meet those criteria and would therefore like to put aside any beefs if possible. Frog says he's glad to hear that, though he recalls JDA making similar vows in the past only to get in beefs with everyone around him in the past but that from his perspective, ultimately the two of them share the same enemies in the mainstream and that, whether ither of them like it or not, Jon is a part of this movement that is Comicsgate. While the two of them may disagree with what they want out of it (constructivist versus political reactionary), what Frog would like is if they could simply cordially agree to disagree and that JDA rejoin the community. Jon accepts the offer and then leaves to watch the Mandalorian.

I appreciate you taking the second half. As for the first half, I found some frustrating CGtism.

-We've been parodying the almost religious zeal bordering on the tone of a revival meeting that CG and 'antiCG' livestreams have taken. I can't even parody because the reality is too much a parody.

-Nassar decides to watch and mock Doug Tennaple's video. Doug Tennaple isn't a bad target in and of himself. He's a bundle of blowhard and narcissism in human form. The problem with CGers doing it is they have the same derangement regarding him that Trump's critics had. Like Ethan's stalkers, their too serious and over the top and wind up making Doug look less cowish than he is.

-Doug makes two big moos. 1. He cheers at Cecil being cancelled, stating that being cancelled is great. Doug's never actually been cancelled. Everytime SJWs have cut off an opportunity, he's gotten another. 2. He literally refers to Comicsgate as Sodom and Gommora and people looking back as being threatened with turning into Salt. It's overall obnoxious and overblown and good for a laugh. But...

-Nassar cringingly talks about friendship and how friends have a duty to sell his book or whatever.

-The worst is Vic. Vic makes vague accusations against Doug, fails to back any of them up, when pressed by Poulter proceeds to decline to elaborate and instead makes gay jokes. To listen to Vic, you'd think Doug stole candy from children or some shit.

Overall the first half of the stream is worthless except for the excess cringe. Doug didn't owe Nassar anything because 'friendship.' He owed it to the people he gave a business expectation that outside CG would be better than in. Vic's vague references to the 'bad' things Doug's done are eye roll worthy.

Zack is putting THE EXPENDABLES together right now, and it's taking all of his focus. But I did talk to him about the success I had in repackaging my old stuff, and suggested he do the same thing.
The level of quality between early Cyberfrog and early JB's is different though? I don't know, I only saw the one JB story pre Malin. Pretty bad, worse than even the Hall of Heroes stuff.
I'm feeling pretty great about beating Doug in every possible way while his fans REEEEE at me.

The bitterness is coming from them. I'm delighted.

I don't know if hating you makes them fans of anyone else. Awful petty stuff all around. From you, from Worm, from all concerned. Ugly.

On a positive note, you and Brian/Mags both have Eisner's, so Newman can certainly take that... :lit:

Kinda hard to be bitter when all of his campaigns constantly shit on Doug's.

And yet we have a comics artist here bragging about his Eisner nomination while he runs down an artist who actually won an Eisner.

Bitter is bitter.

Pretty sure Ethan's Eisner status is "nominated" not won so Brian and Doug are one up on him.

Who gives a fuck about Eisners?

First: Tom King won an Eisner for "Best Writer" in 2019 for dogshit like Heroes in Crisis and his Batman run. Hell, Mags Visaggio was nominated. Maybe they meant something once upon a time but they certainly don't now.

Second: Doug TenNapel will be the first to tell you that his Eisner for Best Humor Publication for Bart Simpson's Treehouse of Horror had everything to do with the inclusion of cartoonist legend Sergio Aragones and him just being in the right place at the right time.

Third: Bill Willingham is said to be heading over to Comicsgate and that guy has 14 Eisners, for whatever that's worth.

Finally, I'm an Eisner award nominated storyteller,

Who gives a fuck about Eisners?

@FROG does. He thought we all needed to be reminded that he'd been nominated.

Eisner's are as much of a joke as Oscar's or Emmy's. Bill Wilingham is a massive talent though. It would be interesting if he thought joining the CG dumpster fire was a good idea. I guess Liam has left an opening for a writer and joining titans like Clint, Klaus and Wenger in CG would be epic...

I'd rather be making bank with every campaign I launch than win some shitty award they give to anyone with the right politics.

Is that a win or a loss for Doug actually having won one?

Now now, Newman. Ethan should be proud that one of the what? sixty comics he produced over more than twenty years he was working for DC got nominated for an award that one time and lost.

I agree, Clint Stoker and Dime Bag fag aren't sterling company, but Grahm Nolan? He's something.

Yeah. The Eisner's are a joke. I don't know why Ethan even brought up the fact he came in second for one once. No one cares about the Eisner's.

I agree, Clint Stoker and Dime Bag fag aren't sterling company, but Grahm Nolan? He's something.
Nolan's okay. He's not in the same league as Dixon or Baron. Those dudes know how to write good comics consistently and they seem to have learned their lesson where CG is concerned.

If Willingham is smart he'll talk to them before he decides to dive in.

Now now, Newman. Ethan should be proud that one of the what? sixty comics he produced over more than twenty years he was working for DC got nominated for an award that one time and lost.
I agree.

2008's Eisner winner for penciler/inker Pia Guerra. Stiff competition.

I'd say it's a wash for Doug. He won an Eisner in the 90's I think when they still rewarded merit but he won it in a category where the competition was rather thin and like Dongs said, "Doug TenNapel will be the first to tell you that his Eisner for Best Humor Publication for Bart Simpson's Treehouse of Horror had everything to do with the inclusion of cartoonist legend Sergio Aragones and him just being in the right place at the right time."

Jawbreakers: Lost Souls was the first Jawbreakers book.
I wasn't asking about that, though.
I was referring to a possible Omnibus containing Meyers' work from 2007 to 2014:
1. Yonchi, published as a part of Image Comic's Popgun Volume 2 in 2007. It was Meyers' debut comic.
2. No Enemy But Peace, one-shot published in 2008.
3. "The Orphans," published as part of FUBAR: Empire of the Rising Dead in 2010/2011 (republished in 2017).
4. Chosin: To The Sea, published in 2013.
5. "Fallen Heroes" in Korean War Volume 1, published in 2014.
6. Chosin: Hold The Line, published in 2014.

This isn't a zero-sum game and Doug losing doesn't mean you win or vice versa. What do you have to gain by shitting on Doug? I mean, in general, but especially here on the Farms? You've got beef with him, fine. I can't even remember what started it at this point and I don't particularly care. But I think a lot of people in this circle of non-woke comic fans want to like, if not be customers of, both of you. And that's kinda hard to do when you're here shit-talking him behind his back for reasons nobody else cares about like a gossipy old woman. Why not just draw frogs and leave the worm to his own devices? If he's as terrible as you seem to think he is, he'll fail even if you don't mention him, won't he?

Yet here you are in a forum arguing about comic books...

Not as much as some. :smug:

Don't worry, it's not fully directed at you. I'm just singling you out because of course it's about fucking bitterness. Frog's ego is still smarting from whatever slights Worm committed against him in the distant past, so he has to wave his spurious accomplishments about, singing 'so what, I'm still a rock star', hoping Doug will take notice and feel bad for leaving him at the altar. It spills over into the different camps of true believers and even here, of all places.

A few pages back, Smug Frieza complained that this topic had become about a-logging. I assume he meant all the kiwis reeing about Ethan which, hands up, includes me. I think I've lost some steam after joining and having my two or three spergouts, but all the same, if this thread is infested with Frog-haters, over the last few weeks it's gained at least an equal part of the Ethan And Nasser Reacharound Club. That's my reason for getting bored and skimming - if I wanted to watch that I'd just go pull up one of Nasser's streams.
So instead of laughing at the autism wars, the comicsgate topic on Kiwi Farms is joining in. I may be late, but the last couple of pages make me sympathise with Smug. "Our guy has an Eisner!" "Oh yeah? Eisners are worthless! Our guy made more money on his last indiegogo!" "Oh yeah? Our guy has twice the backers!" Fuck's sake.
Of course, I'm not immune to it, not yet. Doug has fallen some in my eyes, but Ethan making more money on fewer backers just makes me think he's got a smaller pool of bigger fuckwits. Call it sour grapes, but that response to a dopey political kneejerk of a premise really makes me despair for american comics from any source, mainstream or otherwise. Come right on in, our new weeaboo overlords. Make yourselves comfortable.

Just so this isn't completely about writing 'dear diary' and sobbing into my pillow: has anyone noticed that Preston 'the lips acquire stains, the stains become a warning' Poulter has restarted his This Week in Comicsgate series? He doesn't say much that hasn't been chewed over here, and he calls it season 2, but I wonder if the current cg shambles has made him brave enough to poke his head above the parapet again.

As opposed to his ex wife poking a head up somewhere else.

Today was a peaceful day in the village of Comicsgate.

The sun was shining and the denizens of our favorite internet comic book movement were "tending their gardens" to quote Voltaire's Candide, or "building your platform" in the inestimable wisdom of Jonathan Malin. Frog made some videos BTFOing the planned genderswapping of Plastic Man and tweeting his enthusiasm about his channel's subcount starting to climb again. Jon Malin again generously used his platformto promote around fourteen smaller and entry level crowdfunds such as "Anisa Night", "War Party" and "ASYL". Art Thibert spent all day drinking then got on camera to ramble incoherently about how the audience should buy Reignbow Brute. All was well.... or so it seemed. So it seemed....

Storm crowds are brewing, and ThatUmbrellaGuy rides in like Paul Revere, warning of the imminent danger to the Comicsgate people.

1607235330592.png

The dire threat that is Preston Poulter has woken from his slumber after once and for all finalizing the divorce with his estranged wife, his dread show Last Week In Comicsgate roaming the plains of youtube, recapping and commenting on Liamstreams again to the rejoicing of CG's enemies. And that's just the beginning. Preston Poulter is coming for the trademark of Comicsgate village itself, which means he will have legal power over each and every one of the humble townsfolk. That is, unless they pass the collection plate around and donate generously to Cridious, the creator of Detective Dead who failed to either deliver the comic or refund his backers. Only by doing so will Comicsgate be saved.

The Comicsgate proletariat has a long history of extreme credulity when it comes to TUG's very trustworthy advice and warnings, like when he revealed Thomas Roiloup's true identity as our own @Smug Freiza . But for some reason TUG's cries to start a crowdfund to pay for Cridious' legal expenses, lest Comicsgate face litigational doom, fell on seemingly deaf ears.

1607237463616.png

"Deadwood Dale", a 24 year old mostly known for his horror tales of being shackled into a sweatshop channel in Warcampaign's discord and forced to crank out memes for Comicsgate, used his powerful intellect to detect a flaw in TUG's premise. He points out that, to prevent trademark squatting, a trademark has to be exercised within a timeframe or the legal claim to it lapses and Cridious has failed to actually publish anything with his trademark. Preston's trademark by contrast was exercised through JDA and his comic RoboToad: Rekt Manlet. No amount of crowdfunded money can change those facts.

TUG corrects the naive young Comicsgater about how the legal system really works. Legal basis for lawsuits doesn't actually matter - what actually matters is that you shovel money into a lawsuit regardless of the strength of the case, racking up lots of needless legal expenses for one's opponent, and then you win. It worked for Vic Mignogna and, by God and with Comicsgaters' money, it will work for Cridious. Listen to TUG.

1607238542375.png

Yanzi Lin, co-creator of Starlight Cats and spouse of Shane Davis, offers some intriguing thoughts of her own on the matter. She wonders why the lords "big name creators" in CG don't just tell the plebs that they're going by a new name now; Comicsgate is a brand after all. While Yanzi recognizes that nominally Comicsgate is a "consumer movement", she has the more enlightened opinion that in reality CG is a partnership between comic creators and customers. A partnership not unlike a marriage, which in theory is made between two equals but in practice one of the partners will yell and nag until after enough time they call all the shots and the other partner is a lifeless, droning emasculated husk who left drawing Superman to make chinese cat books. Speaking purely metaphorically of course. A fascinating glimpse into Yanzi's mind to be sure.

1607239805662.png

The people of Warcampaign have given their verdict on their one-time collaborator and ally TUG and his plan to save Comicsgate from Preston. What it might lack in sophistication it more than makes up in directness.

Eventually this menace to the CG community was deemed so important that community elder Art Thibert was called upon by concerned journalists to lend his thoughts on the crisis and TUG's proposed solution. Through what can be made from Thibert's slurring, his opinion on the matter was that Preston couldn't trademark people saying the word "Comicsgate" on livestreams or social media so whatever trademark Poulter holds would be impossible to implement and being concerned over this was a waste of time.

As 2020 comes to a close, one wonders why this op of TUG's failed so miserably this time. In previous years, convincing the Comicsgate masses to put their money down for a scam intended to drive up legal expenses for Preston using patently ridiculous reasoning would have been met with acclaim. People who openly questioned the wisdom of trusting Cridious with more money would be accused of being quislings, secret anti-CG Preston supporters and then driven from the community. Not so now. Has so many months in his hugbox dulled TUG's grifting edge? Has the average Comicsgater defied all expectations by becoming more circumspect and willing to employ critical thought in the face of outlandish claims? Lack of WC backup to shout down dissenters? Or was trying to rally CG behind Cridious simply TUG flying too close to the grifting sun?
Only time will tell.

Doug's hired some pretty good Sour Grapes farmers. Nice work.

The truth is that Doug's stuff is tired. He's a one trick pony, giving his backers High School Year Book level productions with stories about Homer Simpson as either a worm or a Bigfoot, filled with Disney Tween LOL So Random bullshit humor. And worst, Doug is such a repellant human being that he's driven away 2/3rds of his backers, and had to supplement this failed sequel with a new "leather bound" edition of the first book.

If Doug gave away his profits with bonuses, nobody cared. Nobody thanked him by returning for the next two campaigns.

People were amused to back the first book. But there's no story. It's a gag strip video game property. If you like the art, that's nice. It's fairly rote, simplistic brush cartooning. Nothing unique or special. Disposable shit.

It'll continue to plummet from here, and Doug will be right back to where he started from when he cried to me in a FB message. But you and VikkiVerse can continue to cheer him on!

Meanwhile, I've surpassed his earnings with half of the backers in one tenth of the time. In other words, people actually LIKED my last few campaigns, and don't want to miss anything from this new one.

REIGNBOW THE BRUTE is an entirely new property, bearing no relationship to CYBERFROG. And it's still doing great.

I add free books and free toys to my campaigns as they do better and better. I'm guessing Nasser would do the same thing if he hit six figures. And Nasser probably will hit six figures with ComicsGate.

Finally, I'm an Eisner award nominated storyteller, and people are anxious to read the second part of my story. CYBERFROG is a hit. It's obvious. The back issues are selling like crazy on eBay for exorbitant prices... From other eBay sellers. That's proof of concept. Not fans throwing money at me to pwn the SJWs, people actually WANT TO COLLECT CYBERFROG COMICS.

That's what I've built. Maybe I got it started with my excellent Cult Leader charm, but it's real. Keep crying for Doug, though. I love watching all of this.
You do get that Doug sold on Kickstarter and made 500k plus all together on that book?
Edit both campaigns together equal 500k felt I need to clarify on Kickstarter he made 260k and he’s made 236k and it’s in demand so about 500k altogether

It's not the alogging itself that bothers me but rather the quality of the posts. I myself used to give Ethan quite a bit of grief even to the point of him calling me an autistic retard, but I always tried present information in my posts. I'd screenshot and archive tweets, or grab clips and youtube timestamps, present crowdfunding data on comics and then present that information to him for an answer or rebuttal. If other kiwis wish to alog Ethan, all I ask is that they put a little more effort into their posts when confronting him on a specific issue.

Personally I have nothing against Ethan and he has never done anything to me to warrant any hatred, I actually think he's quite the businessman and charismatic showman. As I've said previously, lately Ethan has made a number of wise decisions and overtures so my alogging has ceased due to having nothing of substance to criticize him for.

It's good to see you also noticed Preston's return to the Comicsgate sphere, I was considering doing write-ups on both streams but they are just a rehash of old information already present here on the farms. I guess I'll offer a quick summary of both videos to spare other kiwis from enduring Preston's presence.

Preston's first video Last Week in #Comicsgate: Schism (S2E1) aired five days ago and begins with Preston talking about his return and a quick musing on the shaming he has received for his "sexuality". Preston then reports that his trademark battle with Antonio Malpica/Cridious is still going ahead and he will hopefully receive judgment very soon, tying into @Mister Dongs post above. Preston then goes on to efap a video of Liam Gray sperging over @NasserRabadi13's return to Comicsgate and then segues into the email Preston received from Liam attempting to negotiate for the personal information of the SWC Brothers and any evidence of Doug TenNapel conspiring to harm Liam's business, this email exchange can be found at the end of the OP of Liam's thread. The efapping continues culminating with the famous "bring Ethan to me now" demand of Liam and the subsequent refund request of Xenotype by Ethan.

Preston's second video Last Week in #Comicsgate: Replace-Simps aired two days ago and opens with Preston announcing Liam Gray has left Comicsgate via spokesperson Micah Curtis, before dunking on Donal Delay/@Fathead over customer complaints about not yet receiving Brutas the Badass. Preston then goes onto report of the lateness of Tales of the Stack and praising Tim Lim for the success of Kamen America 2. Next Shinobi Sasquatch is in Preston's sights as he reports on the artist's update of pausing production on the late book to work on Graveyard Shift 3, he then takes pot shots at Red Rooster, Lady Alchemy and several other late Comicsgate books. After dunking on the late CG books Preston goes into Liam leaving Comicsgate and Micah's involvement with his departure before segueing into Micah's previously feud with Razorfist over collaborating with Vox Day, efapping Micah's appearance on a previous Oz Arts stream then efapping Micah's video on Liam's channel. The next topic was Nasser's video analyzing the feud between Micah and Ethan as a result of Micah attempting to sabotage Nasser and Vic King's campaign, which Preston watches offering commentary. After the Nasser efap, Preston then responds to a similar video done by Jon Del Arroz/@TheCosmicWarrior and screen-sharing some of Jons comments here on the farms, interestingly Preston goes into some of the disagreements he and Jon have been having lately. The disagreement with Jon continues as Preston reports on George Alexopoulos's appearance on Tim Pool for being shadow banned on Reddit which Jon claims he was also victim of. Lastly Preston goes into the collaboration between Dark Gift Comics and his ex-wife who are producing comic books together, Preston gives his opinion on the situation that they are attempting to leverage him as a possible marketing tool for the book.

All in all the videos contain very little information that isn't already weeks or even months old here on the farms. What is interesting however is why Preston has returned to his Last Week in Comicsgate series after a four month hiatus and why he recently privated or unlisted all his weekly writers streams. Preston's Last Week in Comicsgate series was by far his flag ship series generating regular weekly views of between 1.3K to 3K. His writers streams however (now privated) fail to generate over 100 views, proving that his drama videos were the best form of marketing he previously had at his disposal. His latest project The White Lily Trade Paperback was last at 55% funded with a week remaining, however now with 10 hours to go has reached it's funding goal. I theorize this return of Prestons has less to do with "fighting the good fight" and is just his acceptance of the fact that his Last Week in Comicsgate series is the best tool for marketing his books he has available. The rehashing of months old news and producing two LWiC video's in the final week of funding as opposed to what was previously a once a week show lend credence to my theory.

Will Last Week in Comicsgate continue now that the White Lily TPB has funded? Will the series be able to continue now that Warcampaign, Liam Gray and TUG have largely divorced themselves from Comicsgate removing the majority of the drama and content the shows format relies on? The landscape of Comicsgate has shifted and changed greatly in 2020 and the drama of older creators might be hard to fill with new professional creators like Dan Fraga, Graham Nolan and Shave Davis.

The landscape of Comicsgate has shifted and changed greatly in 2020 and the drama of older creators might be hard to fill with new professional creators like Dan Fraga, Graham Nolan and Shave Davis.

looks like EVS is gonna leave CG too.
