I have a theory about this situation with Preston trying to obtain the rights to the name of Comicsgate.

It never made sense to me why Preston wanted the name other than to simply spite EVS for not promoting him.

I think it might be deeper and darker than this...

I think Preston is being used or manipulated like a tool by a more cunning force working behind the scenes using him as a catspaw.

This force working behind the scenes has it out for CG and wants to see it destroyed and this force knows that one scenario that will ultimately spell CG's destruction would be for Preston Poulter to attain the rights to the name.

After that, CG will be so tainted that no other creator will want to join the movement, and the big creators already associated with the name will abandon it and simply continue to cultivate the fanbase they already created through the Comicsgate movement.

The movement would wither on the vine and ultimately die.

The main objective of this unseen force working behind the scenes is to trick EVS into abandoning Comicsgate, because since Ya Boi left, EVS is basically the heart and soul of Comicsgate, and if you separate him from the movement, it will eventually die.

Who is this hidden, cunning force working behind the scenes using or manipulating Preston as a catspaw to ultimately destroy CG? It's obvious to me.

Ever since he left the movement and incurred all those refunds, he's had it out for CG ever since then and wants to see the movement destroyed.

He's good friends with Preston, they play Dungeons & Dragons together. If he's not the one quarterbacking this behind-the-scenes he's at the very least encouraging him and giving him advice.

Doug is no fool, a Machiavellian scheme like this is right up his wheelhouse. Bottom line is I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to find out that Doug TenNaple was The Mastermind behind this whole scheme for Preston to obtain the Comicsgate name just to trick EVS into leaving the movement, and thus, ultimately kill it, leaving his revenge complete.

He may even be helping to bankroll Preston's legal fees too, I wouldn't put it past him.

Looks like he's sliding into the Liefeldian school of proportions. Still better than the average CG fare, but we're never going to see his best work on his own like this. Unless you are the next Frank Miller or Alan Moore, you have to be able to collaborate. Ethan has found a way to be financially successful, but we all know this will never compare to the A+ stuff he did at DC. One of the main things I've noticed is while he has alot of artist connections, he has a lack of them when it comes to good writers and at this point he might never seek one out to do his books. It's all about control and now that he effectively has all of it, he's getting pretty lazy.

You can definitely tell he's losing respect for his audience if this is any indication of what is to come.

I don't think he has time to spend hatching labyrinthine plots so he can be Palpatine to Van Sciver's Skywalker.

It's possible but it's about as likely as Mitch delivering Red Rooster next week.

The signature and Google attribution aren't real, but rather it seems to be someone making a point about Ethan's lack of background drawing with that portion of the work being handed to Kyle who is using photos found on Goggle to fill in the blanks.

He's gone back and forth and back and forth on his public stances and that means no one is safe in his orbit. Doug running gayops is always possible, but if he is, he's only trying out EVS's own tactics against him. It won't work but if he really has an Ahab complex, the white whale will outmaneuver him. The more likely situation is that Ethan is trying to concoct a narrative that is the equivalent of blaming his own farts on the dog.
