I had the thought a while ago that they might tie reopening to vaccination totals: when 10% of your county is vaccinated, you can do "x" again. At 20%, "y" can reopen, etc.

Gov Cuomo had Fauci on his Emmy Award Winning broadcast Monday and after making Fauci listen for 15 minutes to a slideshow about how great NY is, Fauci let slip it will be nearly a year before immunization will be effective enough to lift restrictions.

It was beautiful, really. He started off by saying we'd have the old and health workers vaccinated by Xmas and it sounded like it would be over fast. Then he kept adding stages of different groups getting shots, and moving goalposts to Spring, Early Summer, "the thick of summer" then it was "probably fall" by the time he was done.

The lockdowns and masks will be perpetual.

Why would they wait 24 hours to give the warning that anyone with severe allergies shouldn't get it? Surely they would have known that people can have allergic reactions to things (duh) ahead of time, so did they just not give a shit who they were giving it to? I would have thought precautions like that would be standard procedure, they usually ask about allergies and things for normal flu shots. Sounds like more of a cock up with the distribution than the testing, honestly. They're also reporting that the vaccine should only be given where facilities for resuscitation are available which makes sense but is a bit ominous. Guess that sinks the idea of doling it out in every GP's office and pharmacy.

I'm in one of the groups that was specifically excluded from the trials so in theory I shouldn't be expected to get the vaccine until more is known about it, which is the main thing I was worried about in the first place.

There should be a crash cart anywhere vaccines are given because sudden cardiac arrest can happen with any shot. It sounds terrifying but there is a slight percentage that this can happen (which is why you are supposed to monitor infants and young children after vaccinations especially if it's new or their is a family history).

Politicians and "experts" are way too optimistic about the idea of the public taking another 2020 up the ass when the vaccine they spent months hyping up arrives, more so when people with nothing left to lose get more agitated. Nah, we are well past that. It's "give a mouse a cookie" syndrome; or "if you give an inch they will take a mile." They are absolutely going to ask for MORE power in 2021, especially with Biden as president. I would love to agree with you, but I find it optimistic at best. Maybe people will get desperate (50% of small businesses could already be closed forever), but I'm not counting on it. Doublethink is a scary thing, and I never thought people would happily give up as much freedom as they already have, to the point where it totally makes sense to them that "yep, I definitely shouldn't be visiting my relatives during the holidays."

One of the most demoralizing things I've ever witnessed is the sheer number of people who were indeed willing to take 2020 up the ass and now give every indication of asking for seconds enthusiastically. There are many tens of millions of people in America right now who will proudly display their eunuch cards to be let into a grocery store along with the rest of their fellow cattle. They'll actually feel good about doing so and react with fear and condemnation of anyone who takes a stand and says "fuck this and fuck you." This has honestly been a very educational insight into past eras, as I have always struggled with the idea that people would accept bondage in so many different countries and forms throughout history on a mass scale. I now can see that there must have been plenty of slaves in the antebellum South who weren't particularly bothered by the weight of their chains either, or Russian proles who kept their heads down and pretended that it was a good thing when the goon squad dragged their neighbors away.

Here's another baseless conspiracy theory: notice how media and experts keep flip-flopping on whether we'll have permanent masking after the vaccine? It would be one thing if it was Japan, where people have always been encouraged to wear masks if they were sick, just as a social politeness.

It will be another in 2 years when people try to put laws into place to force this to happen. And people will just go along with it.

I think the best case scenario, and I think this has been brought up by other posters here, is for the old take the vaccine first and the young go back to normal society. The media has all been obsessed with protecting grandma and shit, if this vaccine works then they're protected. If not and this shit has some severe side effects then at least you got to live an long life.

Of course, that'd mean the young have to be the ones to take the hit and get sick and possibly die, but at this point I'd roll the dice on that if it meant going back to normal. Hell with proper social distancing and whatnot, we could probably keep that at a minimum and not stress out the hospitals.

My question is, is this being talked about as a practical solution? Maybe I'm just misinformed and this is actually a terrible idea. Or maybe they want to keep this situation going for just a bit longer for their own agendas.

I do agree with you about homeschooling and how shitty public schools are on a good day, but there will always be a segment of the population homeschooling will never work for. I think that is what the statistics are reflecting and why in-classroom public school should be available. Now we are setting ourselves up to have a good number of children which are very poorly educated and undersocialized. Sounds great.

Ah no big fucking loss, people don't need to think, they're better off just letting the machines and the experts do the thinking for them, it's safer that way. All they need to do is collect UBI and consoom. They're making a huge sacrifice by doing this, they're practically war heroes, you understand.

For real there is a percentage of kids that are perfectly capable of teaching themselves the material and in person schooling is more of a hindrance for them if anything, but that doesn't actually help them avoid becoming very socially maladjusted. I kind of dismissed that as unimportant until I spent some time browsing reddit and realized how fucking useless people end up being when they're raised by the internet and worship at the altar of eternal victimhood, screeching that personal responsibility is for evil bigoted devil mecha Nazis and nothing is anyone's fault ever because muh mental health, or something.

If anything good comes of this it will be teachers' unions being told to go hang and an increase in kids becoming apprentices to their working parents because there's fuck all else to do and learning actual skills. Big fuckin' rainbow, but it's possible. Academia is a commodity that's pretty much lost all value for 95% of people unless you want to huff your own farts at a professional level and drawing attention to the student loan issue kind of makes that hard to avoid acknowledging.

I was going all patriotic “Americans wont stand for this” in like May. They do mostly in fact stand for this, mild disobedience notwithstanding.

PL: I was homeschooled. I'd say it was a net gain for me, but it is absolutely not for everybody. Some kids don't do well locked at home all day with no one to talk to. Some need external socialization. Some moms don't care about academics and park their kids in front of a video course, or unschool. Some don't understand how to tailor their teaching style to different kids... The nice thing about going to "real school" is that you get a good cross section of teachers and even if you get a bad one one year, there'll be a good one to balance them out.

Also, homeschooling pretty much requires the teaching parent to quit their job, which for many families will require moving to cheeper areas and stuff. It's not an easy fix all.
