It's the same reason most people like RPG's; most people are retarded. Either they don't understand they're repeating the same thing over and over for 40 hours or they don't care because it calms them. That's why Richard is so relaxed when playing RPG's on his stream.

From back when the series was good...

Phil doesn't enjoy them because he is retarded, he enjoys them for one simple reason - they allow him to make money while putting in absolutely no effort.

He buys one game and is able to stream it for 70 to 80 hours while just clicking x and maneuvering menus. Kahntent!

Phil does not enjoy RPGs, or any other genre. He enjoys clicking on something and winning, over and over again, that's why he's hooked on gacha.

It's also why the worst games for him are the kind where no one can hold his hand, like first-person shooters and racing games. Even though they're not complex, the second that something goes wrong (which it will because knowing what to do and being able to do it are two totally different things), Phil's brain spergs out. The only way he can remain calm is if there is no fail state. He hates failure too much to ever handle any amount of it with dignity or grace. Or learn from it.

These pretty much go together.

He really does want to just sit there and lounge on the chair then receive money for it. See how giddy he gets during RPGs when he's over-leveled one shotting mooks. The bright flashy lights and having big words saying YOU WON.

Then you have some fuckin' movie-game, the types he loves because they play themselves with no real videogame fail-states. Gets to sit back, act like you're invested in your little Goosebumps or Bailey School Kids grade school level of writing and story.

The lazyness when it comes to pick games, too. There is no investment or research going into what to play which is why he's so strictly doing AAA new releases because it's the typical rehashed War Shooter, or flashy game with simple button presses and "cinematic experiences".

Hate that I miss him playing Street Fighter ST despite how fuckin barebones that shit is but at least he seems to be somewhat invested despite the graphics and lack of story. At least you can call it a game.

Did he make this complaint in any Bethesda game? Jesus. You don't have to pick it all up Phil just the good shit.
But read that like you have a wwe champions account. Then it makes sense.
Bugsnax had a very robust and mature story.
with an 'ACTION PACKED FINALE!'

I don't think DSP really runs into that many bugs, or even puts the system under too much stress. He thinks he's the king of bugs because claiming a game is buggy is one of his go to excuses. In reality the "bug" is that he's just playing badly or doesn't understand basic gameplay mechanics. But rarely, is the game actually behaving incorrectly.

I think Phil actually does enjoy RPGs, just a select genre, and not for the usual reasons people like RPGs. Phil seems to enjoy grindier RPGs, with lots of random encounters. Even for someone like Phil who is awful at games, most random encounters present no threat to you. You just click attack and win over and over. Phil absolutely loves winning. You're also rewarded too, since the more you grind and win, the more powerful you become overall. And it also allows you to brute force through harder fights that actually require strategy, since if you grind enough, you can win just by clicking attack over and over. From a streaming standpoint, those games are also easier to stall for time/milk donations.

But the actual RPG elements people usually enjoy, like complex combat systems or the story or whatever? Phil hates those. I also think that's one of the reasons why Phil will claim to like older RPGs. There are certainly still grindier RPGs, but it feels like the genre has moved away from that, either going more of an action route, or focusing less on lots of insignificant random encounters and diving into more meaningful strategic battles, where you're always expected to be utilizing all your character skills/items or going down an advanced build path.
Doesn't he play all this shit on easy mode too?

He is autistically obsessed with playing every game on "normal", or the mid-range difficulty setting may be designated if available, because, in his words, "that's the intended experience". This is regardless of what the developers themselves may have to say on the subject. It's another batshit part of him maintaining an image of the Average Gamer, whatever the fuck that means because he's never explained it.

His thoughts after a full-day of Cyberpunk gameplay.

Once again it shows that if it's not the best game ever, it's a mixed bag. So what innovation did Tsushima have for him to praise it so much?

At least it's more nuanced and analytical than most of his ramblings, and I actually agree with him on some points. He didn't express his points like a fucking clown, either, or at least not in that thread. Why can't he be like that all the time?

Must've been a sober night for him.

Tsushima is an amazing game tbh, the graphics were stellar, the combat, while not so challenging, was fun and dynamic (you have to switch up styles mid combat and you can take advantage of the world by luring enemies near exploding barrels), and the story was engaging. If you haven't played it yet definitely give it a go.

Like others have said the only RPGs Dave likes are JRPGs and similar RPGs that let you grind. Best are the ones you don't even get to create your character, as in choose their stats, the game always gives the stats that character would need for their class and autolevels them for you. In those games it's all about GETTIN' BIG levelwise and gearwise. The only exception are tactical JRPGs because they don't involve just choosing your best attack over and over. Another one is action RPGs like From Software games. No matter how much he sucks, no matter how trash his build is, just because the game doesn't do RNG rolls but is just pure action makes it possible for Dave to slam his head against the wall enough times to brute force himself through.

Could you imagine Dave playing a game where fucking up at chargen screws you up for the entire game? Like imagine if he played Baldur's Gate. In any D&D based game like it the only real way to fuck up is to make a "balanced" character statwise rather than play to their strengths and ignore weaknesses. For example, you wouldn't give a fighter high INT, WIS or CHA unless you're planning to dualclass them later. So in the end he'd have a fighter with an even spread of 13 in each attribute and then he'd fuck himself. Once you made a shitty character and click on "finish" it's done, you're brown bread, it's impossible to increase your attributes in the game, save certain quests.

Another type of RPGs he would be completely fucked at are the ones who do XP differently. Think Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. You can kill every baddie in every level and you still won't level up, the only way to get skill points to upgrade your char is completing quests, both main and side ones. Again, having an even spread of skills sucks there too, you want to focus on a few skills in each category and then have others as backups. Also, if you fuck yourself and don't upgrade shooting to the highest level you're done, the kind of bullshit you get into in the late to endgame where the game devolves into a shitty corridor shooter is going to destroy you if you didn't start focusing on shooting somewhere in the mid game.

That's why I can't WAIT for him to start playing Divinity.

Didn't Phil call a game trash or atleast rated it low and then made it his GotY some years back?
He had Death Stranding on both his GOTY and Most Disappointing lists.

Regarding Cyberpunk, Phil must be really desperate for that Twitter clout if he thinks he's gonna get attention for onc crash and a couple instances of the bugs that are in literally every open world game. Fucked up NPC pathing/floating NPC/identical NPCs, this shit goes back to Morrowind. But apparently Mr. Hardcore Gamer with the Twelve Year Legacy thinks they are notable and make him the King of Bugs. Fucking get over yourself, Phil.

Something that got me thinking today: do you guys think that Phil has more or fewer paypigs now than, let's say, 3 years ago?

I have the impression that, while he is making more money now than ever on Twitch, it is becoming more and more reliant on fewer piglets.

If I had to guess, I'd say that less than 20 people are responsible for more than 80% of all money the pig gets monthly on Twitch. The opposite of crowdfunding, and pretty unsustainable in the long run.

And as usual, this goes directly against what he himself says. "Oh, far more people have given me a chance and saw I'm a good streamer", which we all know isn't really true.

Phil doesn't enjoy them because he is retarded, he enjoys them for one simple reason - they allow him to make money while putting in absolutely no effort.

There's a noteable difference in his mood when playing anything with an RPG element. Pokemon, Yakuza, <whatever> Souls... these BfR games have players entering the same fights, pressing the button combinations, using the same abilities and rewarding the special ones with a "congrutalations you're the best gamer ever!" flurry of effects and noises when they inevitably "win". The stream chat comments may bother him but he doesn't show it and goat laughs them off. The souls games are a little random when it comes to boss fights, but there mostly just patterns to remember.

Compare that with multiplayer CoD or a racing game. Something where he has to think and there's no one to protect him, like leaving the house by himself. Traffic and AI routes are constantly changing in racing games so there's no patter to remember. The only pattern consistent in CoD is run forward and die. Which admittadly he does a lot, however it's the randomness of the deaths that get to him. He's trying to memorise where people are on the map, not realising that they're humans and move around. He'll run to the same area then be shocked the guy who previously killed him is no longer there. Then he starts insulting the team, the devs, the Internet connection, Elon Musk, the weather...

He doesn't have the mental fortitude to undertand or adapt to change. Even a game like Jurassic Park World Evolution would likely cause him to rip the mittens off his vest when a dinosaur escapes.

Phil is just being a pussy. Anything he says to justify choosing a lower difficulty is horseshit because even when a particular setting literally says that it's the way it's meant to be played, he still picks the one he thinks is easier. And his talk of repping for the average gamer is bullshit too because 1) that doesn't match up with his ego, and 2) it doesn't match up with reality. It's just an excuse to take the easier route.

@DontEatSilicaGel I would blame his autism for that, but he doesn't get frustrated with the way his brain keeps getting in his way of adapting, he expects the world to align itself to what he needs to happen so he wins and can feel good. That's not autism, that's just plain fucking crazy.

lol. He couldn't even get through the first sentence without lying. Why would anyone believe his 'reviews' at this point?

He must have read here that we always make fun of him because he is such a narcissist that he always makes his character look like himself so this time he didn't create a character like him in cyberpunk. Also, why didn't he mess with the genital character creation menu? I tought he preferred a pene penne.
Yup he's here watching like a hawk and sometimes likes to switch up stuff we mention because he thinks it bothers us and makes us wrong. I've noticed it several times where a certain habit will be brought up for an upcoming playthrough and he will suddenly and pointedly go in an opposite direction after having done the same thing for years. *waves at phil*.

It's why that article that came out about streamers with the highest average donation to viewer ratio is skewed. By their logic someone can have like 200 people on average and one person drops $10k so that makes an average of $66 per person the data pool does not reflect accurately.

Phil doesn't really think anything he does in reaction to our insults bothers us. This is the same guy who thinks he wins if he never takes our advice seriously and makes improvements to his life, like not wasting all his money on wrestling jpegs.

No, he's just being the overly sensitive little wimp that he is, while having his cake and eating it too by not ever acknowledging that we control his behavior far more than his fans do.

The only other time I can think of that he didn't create some facsimile of his idealized self was in Bloodborne when he was inspired to create The Joker. Because the default skin tone is very pale and you can make the hair green.
