Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

The military does really wacky stuff with vaccines, probably won't be too bad if it's for civilians on behalf of the FDA, I hope.

The head of the La Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital epidemiologic unit in Paris is sounding the alarm on the Pfizer vaccine.

Yeah, it's an immune system reaction, most of those are stronger in younger people. I looked at the paper personally, and it does appear that lots of people pretty much get taken out for a day or two, like the symptoms of a somewhat nasty flu, though without as much danger.

Apparently, if you just skip the second dose, it's much less and you still get ~50% protection. I assume that's because the immune system has prepared to mount an even bigger attack on the spikes and the cells containing them at that time. That might be an option, though your should read all the contracts and paperwork first. You would then get a vaccine of different tech a while after.

Don;t inject this shit into your body just to save yourself some potential coofing.

Let the vulnerable who this could kill/maim get the vaccine and be done with it. Thankfully children are either last or not recommended to get it because it would be a hard decision to allow my daughter to get this. And she has all her shots.

My doctor is really cool and she will help me advocate to hold off as long as possible or even skip it altogether.
I have a strong, unusual immune system from working in filthy, nasty industrial settings and chances are good if that shit runs through my system I'd give the coof an upgrade.

Weather and climate might have something to do with it.

Florida in Summer is a godforsaken hellscape where it is 98 degrees out, with 99% humidity and it rains every 15 minutes.

Right now in Florida it is in the 80s and 70s, people are going to spend more time outside which makes it harder for the virus transmit. Actually getting exercise and vitamin D is known for being good for the immune system, as well.

Yeah that’s what I try to explain to people...you know how in the winter up north you huddle inside for 3 months because the weather prevents you from going outside? That’s Florida in the summer. So those numbers you saw in July, that was because at that point in Florida we had to stay inside like it was January in New England.

People keep coping by saying "I only wear it to fuck with facial recognition!" But I'm sure it's beneficial to it, it's getting a lot of practice identifying people minus half their face.
UK kiwis, did you see this?
https://www.wired.co.uk/article/coop-facial-recognition (or search "coop facial recognition")
Same thing Chinese traffic lights do. I wonder how many more places are doing the same without it being reported on...
My mindset with all of these things - the grabs for totalitarian power and setting precedents with mandatory public health orders, forcing everyone to live via their PC, etc etc - is that if it would benefit the powers that be, they will go for it. This is what the normies still falling for it don't understand, or don't want to accept, I think. They still have some hope that the government cares and that paying off "experts"/taking their words out of context never happens.
I agree. We've known about body and gait recognition since the early 2000s, it wouldn't surprise me if the current tech doesn't need a clear view of your face. They already have a full-body model to use.

Yeah, this news changes nothing for me personally. Dr. Mengele and co. can test this mRNA shit on some other rube.
This is backwards. Don't let yourself get the coof just to save yourself from the very small chance the vaccine might give you a fever for a day, or your arm might be sore.
There's actually a very high chance of getting a fever or a sore arm, if you look at the numbers. You probably meant to say something about the more severe side effect possibilities, the incidence of which are not well known because this shit has had less than the bare minimum of testing. I would happily volunteer to be outright infected by a doctor with the real coronavirus before getting this shot.

I'm in a weird dynamic. A roommate is sick (not sure what - they don't want to be tested). Two of my other roommates think Covid is a nothingburger and are still going out to do their regular stuff, and the other half of us are like, "Yes, Covid is massively overhyped and the lockdown is stupid, but if someone is actually sick, maybe we should avoid people for a few days." It's become an instant fight. Turns out it's really really easy to get mad at other people for having fun, when you're upset that you had to cancel your happy plans.

Also this morning's news is that the local cheer-leading gym is getting evicted, and one of our old historical restaurants, which has stood for over 100 years, will close next week for good unless they're allowed to reopen at least some dining. My gym sent out a note at Thanksgiving saying they're doing okay so far relying on donations, so that's nice.

Also, everyone's angst level is way up. If things continue, I think we're gonna see a bunch of divorces get filed over the next few months.

They legitimately call it -- whatever "it" is -- a "pod." Unironically.

COVID be damned! BYOB hot-tub boat rides booming during pandemic

They’re riding the second wave — in a hot tub.

Intrepid party people are pooh-poohing the pandemic and soaking up the season aboard the Hudson River’s latest eye-popping attraction: a hot-tub boat.

“We did a nighttime cruise, and we bundled up until it was time to jump in the tubs,” said Jacqui Wimberly, who got steamy with her husband and three girlfriends (who are all part of one quarantine pod) on the boat.

They splashed out about $100 each for a 90-minute cruise with views of the Statue of Liberty, armed with cans of spiked seltzer and beer in coolers — the boat is BYOB — last month.

“My pod goes to the park and we play games, but this was by far the most fun thing we’ve done,” the 30-year-old South Street Seaport resident said.

The NYC-meets-après ski activity is run by Sea the City, a water sports company that has a fleet of Jet Skis for rent, in addition to their new hot-tub venture.

Rented out by the tub, a plunge starts at $349 for two people on weekdays. Or, dive into the deep end and book the entire boat on a weekend for around $1,800.

“My friend Ashley texted me asking if I wanted to hot tub around Manhattan on a boat with Champagne,” said Jackie Chamberlin, 26, who strapped on a white bikini, a beanie to keep her ears warm and packed a bottle of Veuve Clicquot for her voyage with six other friends. “I was sold immediately. We got the front tub with amazing views, and the other tub had a couple in it that were on a date.”

Owner Adam Schwartz launched the dream boat in September, and boasted that his floating bar was one of the safest drinking spots in the city.

“We fell backwards into roses,” said Schwartz. “We sold out in November and still have tours going out every day even though it’s getting colder.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is no evidence that COVID spreads through hot tubs or pools, and chlorine does kill the virus. Regardless, cozying up in a tub is certainly not social distancing, and gathering in groups still presents a risk.

The extra-wide aluminum catamaran was custom-built by a company in Albany and features two 600-gallon tubs, similar to the ones you might see on a cruise ship with special drainage systems so that choppy waters don’t affect the hot tubs’ tides. Separate speaker systems, a changing room and a bathroom are onboard, too.

As far as the legality of a floating, semi-outdoor bar, Sea the City’s dock is in New Jersey, which doesn’t require a special license for BYOB ventures. When it comes to COVID precautions, Schwartz said his staff, which includes two supervisors and a captain, all wear masks and wipe down surfaces in bathrooms and changing rooms between each reservation.

Business is so good that Schwartz is planning on adding another hot-tub boat to his fleet in Miami, and says that so far, none of his staff or customers — including the some 10,000 people who rented Jet Skis over the summer, he said — have come down with the bug on his watch.

But even the most daring drunken sailors seem to be practicing caution.

Said Schwartz, “As we got into higher COVID numbers recently, the number of people in the groups have shrunk.”

Restaurants not driving infections, but we're going to close them anyways says Herr Cuomo (Archive)

Dec 11 (Reuters) - Indoor dining in New York City will come to a halt on Monday, Governor Andrew Cuomo said, as COVID-19 hospitalizations fail to stabilize and the infection rate rises.

The governor acknowledged indoor dining is not at the top of a list of settings driving the rise in new cases led by household gatherings, but said rising hospitalizations and New York City’s high density were worrying factors.

"Yeah we know it doesn't do anything but we're fucking doing it anyways."

I hope the state government gets sued into a smoking hole in the ground by all the small businesses destroyed and workers put out of work.

Upstate needs to get the hell out of that shitshow.

What pisses me off is the "Health Care Workers" get all the credit when people be working cash 24/7 and get fuck all for respect including minimum wage.

It's a complete toss-up for me who is more annoying: The cunty nurses faffing around making Tik Tok videos in empty hospitals during work hours groaning about how haaaard it is to be "on the front lines" or "saving lives" right now, or mask Nazis who freak out because it's so DANGEROUS to people like them who go to WORK every day RISKING THEIR LIVES in a PANDEMIC and it turns out they actually sling coffee or something.

My problem is just with sanctimonious people. Thanking health care workers (especially paramedics and LTC workers with their wings full of old coofers) is fine but the dedicated ones don't do it for asspats so they don't care. I do agree that the people who keep society's comforts intact (utilities, factories, supply chains) deserve more credit when most of them never took a single day off (even though they could have taken the gibs if they wanted).

Lmao this shit is so fucked, I guess NEETs really will rule the world in the end after all the wagies get experimented on
NEETs were abandoned by society because they weren't "good enough" for the system, but it seems there's some silver lining here
Poetic justice

I’m in the same boat after years of drug and alcohol abuse; I think I’ve created an environment NOT conducive to any fkn virus killing me.
My doc is also cool too. He is actually very anti medication, or at least unnecessary medication. It can be a blessing and a curse.

I have to recommend everyone take a couple days and do absolutely nothing, including watching news or twitter or whatever the fk you do to get your news. It’s really rejuvenating, even if it’s temporary.

At least the "New Normal" may end if enough people are sick of it, which I can see happening - but it could take awhile.
IMO, the main thing that’s been keeping people from being openly sick of this shit up until now is the weaponized guilt-tripping. I think a lot of people are tired of it and would happily ditch the security theater if doing so wouldn't get them branded as a selfish bastard who doesn't care if other people die by friends, family members, and strangers on the internet. Getting to the point where you stop caring if everyone thinks you're a jerk is the hard part for most people.

I loaded up on Audible credits and am mostly taking walks listening, with the cold rain the busy bodies are inside whimpering and not fucking with anyone

What also interests me about Florida is that it’s been doing relatively well despite having a sizable elderly population. If this virus is so devastating to that particular demographic, then why isn’t Florida being ravaged right now? In all fairness though, Arizona, another state with a lot of old people and warm climate, is doing really poorly based on the CDC data, so it would be interesting to run a comparative analysis on the two states to try and single out the likely factors causing the different case rates.
thats not gonna happen/bring out anything usefull... cant find evidence that savages, nigger and mexicans are just not as adapted to cold like illnesses.

mexico has a bit less cases than germany but 6 times the deaths...
germany should have much more deaths based on the average age being alot higher.
