Worse yet, vast majority of his chat agreed and began mocking the COVID-questioning types in typical fashion. Nice reminder of why I think Governor Cuomo belongs in a SuperMax yet the utter ignorance of chat made me actually close his stream, which is something I rarely ever do.

New York has had some of the strictest lockdown laws in the country, which is also why the death toll dropped much faster than in less strict areas (the Bible Belt especially), and that goes doubly for NYC residents due to the population density. Vinny has essentially not been able to go out, see any of his friends, or otherwise do ANYTHING for the last 9 months, and given that we already know his mental health is not amazing AND that he's already shown signs of cracking under the isolation - that comment he made about chat not being able to "save him from himself" immediately stands out - of course it's going to be on his mind. If something as small as Vinny mentioning an ongoing worldwide current event is causing you this much distress, perhaps the problem lies within. Food for thought!

Slightly related, but I've noticed Vinny has been doing a LOT more crossover streams since the onset of the pandemic, and yet not a single one has been with another Vinesauce streamer (sans the charity streams; those are incentives and don't count, in my opinion, since they were fan requests and not organic). I've also been seeing octolinghacker in particular quite often, and I'm honestly wondering who the hell is asking for her to join in that this keeps happening. It's a surprise to me that Vinny and her seem to get on so well, since she's pretty emblematic of a personality type that Vinny used to ruthlessly make fun of (you know, the fake-cutesy voice thing). It honestly makes me wonder if that's part of an extended bit she's doing, and her real personality is completely different - if that was the case, I'd 100% understand why Vinny likes having her around, cause that would be hilarious :story:

Pretty sure NYC also had the most deaths early on because in spite of knowing old people were far more susceptible to Covid, Cuomo was fine with just putting a bunch of old people in cramped elderly homes and was so surprised when so many people started dying.

Yeah, he's not the brightest. I may as well digress down this path for a little while.

Brief TMI: One of my parents worked in a nursing home up until the pandemic hit, and ended up one of many employees there who got sick and was forced to leave with no monetary compensation because the pandemic unemployment insurance was not yet established. I also worked in a public-facing job at that time, and I actually suspect I was sick with Covid at the end of February and just mistook it for the flu because it wasn't common knowledge yet. And that's in spite of the oncoming tide of Covid ostensibly having been known amongst state and federal leaders since late 2019/very early 2020; protections didn't start being put in place until March, so quite a few people got very sick in an easily preventable way. You can trust me when I say that Cuomo is wildly unpopular in New York, too, and everyone knows that his being all gung-ho about defending against the virus is a front. It's been effective now, but that's only because he was forced to place strict protections due to NYC's population-per-capita; the alternative would've been a significantly higher death toll.

You can see that with states that started lockdown much later; their numbers by themselves are lower, but in conjunction with their populations, they have a significantly higher rate of infection. New York has a huge population so it's always going to have more cases than somewhere like, say, Alabama, but the infection rate in New York is actually fairly low due to people adhering more closely to lockdown regulations. That got turned around when they stupidly reopened local schools WAY too early, but I digress yet again.

Anyway. All of these things are likely inundating Vinny right now, and so it's actually a surprise to me that he hasn't brought it up more often. Most of the New Yorkers I know have been pretty strictly adhering to quarantine, and Vinny lives in a borough of NYC so it's very likely that he has genuinely not gone out more than a small handful of times in the last 9 months. It's kind of miraculous to me that he hasn't gotten sick of streaming during lockdown, but maybe the benefits of doing so outweigh how much more difficult it likely is.

I knew how frustratedly salty I was going to sound when I vented that, but COVID has affected me by disrupting my employment to the point that I'm only glad I had money saved up before it all went down in the springtime, which is more than most people had.

Moreover, I just got nauseated at how his Twitch chat were basically the "stay home and save lives" ninnies that likely have jobs or benefits that allow them to hold such a stance. FFS, there's even a vaccine supposedly on the way this week, but you just know these people are gonna continue to act smug and superior to those who lost their livelihoods from unnecessary lockdowns. It's beyond maddening. *sigh*

I understand the frustration about losing work, since a lot of people I know have been forced below the poverty line due to lockdown, but that's honestly a problem with the infrastructure of most countries, not with lockdown itself - if there had been a proper plan established for this in advance, I believe the financial blow would not have been so severe. Pandemic UI was a godsend for a lot of people, but it lasted too short of a time and disproportionately distributed assets to people who didn't need it as much as others.

And lockdown WAS (and still is) necessary to prevent the infection rate and death tolls worldwide from spiking. Look at what happened when they started reopening schools in New York; Covid was being effectively contained up until that point, with the cases remaining below the national average, and all of a sudden there was a massive spike in the number of cases because, wonder of wonders, having a bunch of literally snot-nosed kids crammed into tiny classrooms with one teacher for every 20 kids ISN'T social distancing. It IS a great way to spread the virus around, though!

The vaccine will definitely be a relief when it's finally mass-distributed, but it's not going to fix things right away. If I'm remembering correctly, the vaccine requires multiple treatments to be effective, so it will still be a while yet before the majority of the population is clear to resume normal life. Anyhow, I've said my piece on this, so I'm good on Covid talk for a while.

The one thing I love about Joel is his ability to make fantastic music off of the dumbest shit. I don't care about Bugsnax at all, and honestly find it somewhat repugnant just from the art style, but listening to that song definitely made me reconsider my decision not to watch his stream of it. Seems like he was having fun, at least, and that can make even the shittiest game a fantastic watch.

Unless Screenwave moves to other platforms, Vinny is likely to stay on Twitch or move to YouTube only

Is Joel's bugsnax playthrough worth watching even after watching vinny's?
I watched a bit if the first vid and he seemed to have fun with it but also seemed meh by the end of it.
 
If Vinny bails on Twitch, it's going to be for YouTube. Any other site is eventually going to have the same DMCA issues Twitch is having, but without a tech conglomerate like Amazon behind them that could throw their weight around to hammer out a content ID system ala YouTube. Vinny doesn't care about the ad revenue, so having songs claimed on YT is no big deal and if a stream gets blocked he can cut the music and reupload without a strike, unlike Twitch where he suddenly seems to be on thin ice over nothing.

Truly a Sunday stream for the history books. As if the desk slap and wheezing weren't enough, that laughing fit from the outro was the most explosive laughing fit I've heard from him in a long time, comparable to the one during the legendary AI Dungeon Maclanky bit.

My current country never closed schools and we haven't had any problems at all, Clubs are open and I can get on a packed commuter train every day with no concern, but we also have a subway system that got disinfected every couple of hours before COVID even happened. Meanwhile when I lived in NY just two years ago you couldn't even take off your backpack because if it so much as grazed the ground of a train it would be noticeably sticky.

NY held 40-50% of the entire country's cases for the initial months of the virus. Opening schools wasn't the reason it spiked, it's just NYC's inherent and ever-present filth as a city. Which is fine, it's not the people's fault necessarily, but they should admit that instead of just blaming anti-maskers in nebraska or small businesses just trying to eke out a living.
