Every now and then I like to think about the potential alternate reality where the Yanivs stayed in Israel and Jonny boy did his mandatory two years as a conscript. Especially whether he'd go far in the IDF or not (I know the likely outcome would be "not", but hey, let a guy dream a bit), and if he DID go far, how it would affect him.

I mean, gays in the military are not a new concept (I'm a gay guy in the process of enrolling in the army myself), but I legit wonder if he'd still have his tampon fetish.

JY is too mentally deficient for that. He'd get the shit kicked out of him in Israel. He'd barely survive his time in the IDF and the only reason he wouldn't be the in and out of prison outcast he is fated to become in Canada is because Miriam had enough friends. The only pedophiles who get away with it in Israel are well-connected rabbis or their friends, if he tried his creepy shit there he would get the shit kicked out of him by a parent or other relative of the victim. So he'd probably just remain a weirdo no one hangs around, but a weirdo who isn't really causing trouble and keeps his fetishes in the bedroom. My guess is he was like this before Papa Yaniv died.

For real though, I find it super interesting that of the three, he's the most well adjusted to Canada of the bunch. Miriam's English is equal to that of a caveman, and its also clear the geographical difference had something of an effect on Yitzhak (sp?).

Didn’t his parents live in South America before Israel? The “Jews of the sun” (usually Sephardic Jews) are very different from Ashkenazi Jews (from Europe) in certain ways. I gotta wonder what possessed the Yanivs to move to Canada of all places. Kind of odd to emigrate to a cold climate when you’ve lived in warm atmospheres your whole life. Wouldn’t surprise me if they were fugitives or just fleeing a big tax bill.

I like to think I'm well versed in the Yaniv lore so I can tell you I am pretty surprised to hear about a South America saga.

But weirdly enough I also wouldn't be surprised if they did basically Nomad for a few years.
