This is the thing about representation in vidya— companies wanna make money. And currently, women are largely not spending 60 a pop on brand new vidya releases like men are. Of course companies are going to try and see if more women in games will lead to sales, because if it does work (which it turns out, it usually doesn’t), that’s a big new market.

The thing about trans representation in live action anything is troons insist the characters only be played by trans actors. Maybe there were a handful of lesbians/bi women complaining about Tatyana Maslany or Eliza Clark playing non-straight female characters, but I overwhelmingly saw lots of positive reactions to Orphan Black and The 100. Whereas FTMs have gotten films cancelled because the actor wasn’t an FTM.

It’s almost like a lot of trans activism is just a hustle where unattractive and unremarkable people demand opportunities they could never otherwise access due to being unattractive and unremarkable in any way based purely upon their opt-in idpol group. This applies to writing, acting, art, activism, law, really any career but since they’re usually creatures created entirely by various forms of media, most really just want to be performers or influencers of some sort. Hell even the porn careers 90% of white AGPs fantasize about or pursue? There’s almost no one who wants to watch somebody’s grampa jerking off while dressed like a schoolgirl, but there is *absolutely* no one who wants to watch him while he’s just dressed as, or undressed as, his boring aged self.

As a resident of a shithole, if our men decided to not have kids they don't expect to see hit 30, we wouldn't be having wanted kids at all. The risk of complications and birth defects is higher but still low enough that the expected contribution to society is positive (chance of normal kid * worth of normal kid - chance of tard * abs(cost of tard)).

My heart goes out to that girl. She seems like a pretty bright child for her age, organizing school activities and a library even? By contacting authors and publishers to ask for book donations. Sure, the mother probably helped a lot, but still, that ambition deserves recognition.

That no one in that family is then looking into "puberty blockers" baffles me. Even if you simply look into the rather neutrally written websites about lupron you'll read words like "bone pain", "depression", "mood swings" and "muscle weakness". If you go further then and read articles about long term effects you'll find accounts of people collapsing due to their weak bones and being severely restricted in their physical activities for years, even long after they took this drug, if their health bounces back at all.

There is a reason GnRH agonists have been restricted to kids over the age of 16, and it's not a transphobic government dunking on you. I get puberty is a hard time for everyone, and your kid freaking out probably worries you as a parent, but if your "help" then includes the use of drugs that are supposed to screw with one's body chemistry, please try to collect yourself before making any lasting decisions. That kid deserves more than osteoporosis in her 20s.

This is just wrong. 18% of Shepards are female, which is probably commensurate with the female share of the audience.

Generally, things that would be dealbreakers to small shares of the audience can be important to cater to, because they are important for the word of mouth / IRL friend groups. Especially if it's a multiplayer game.

* The player's [emergent] story should matter in the grand scale of things.
* The game should promise regular rewards / advancement and either follow up on it or cleverly disguise the fact it doesn't.
* Optimize for potatoes and laptops, women don't have high-end gaming PCs and will not upgrade on the regular because they don't have to keep up with their social groups.
* Most importantly don't make women lose, women hate losing. For social reasons, women have an easier time looking back on the time wasted and going, "well fuck this shit sideways with a rusty switchblade, I'm never playing it again". I'm not saying make it journo-mode. Add grinding if you can, add some orthogonal shit to do so they're entertained while they're gitting gud, never take away saved progress.

These parents are pushing this lunacy instead of letting the kid grow and play and dress the way they want. Usually kids grow out of this phase.
