I know it’s a broken record to say by now, but they have a very hard time with understanding that Free Speech just means that the government can’t tell you to shut up. It does not mean that everybody and their grandmother be required to provide you a platform.

As an aside I also find it hilarious at how they insist that “the media” is censoring conservatives when twitter has flat out stated that they won’t ban actual neo nazis because they bring in engagements, and that political figures can basically say whatever they want. Meanwhile their extreme right views and rhetoric is now more than any other time in history being broadcast en-masse by the very media they claim is censoring them. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen big budget sources with million-click-an-hour headlines that are filled with screenshots and links to right wing talking points in tweets or Facebook posts or whatever else. When you look at the things actually getting people banned from these platforms, it’s because they called some transsexual teenager a Niggerfaggot and threatened to slit their throat. Meanwhile even people calling for the extermination of gays are allowed to keep their accounts as long as they do it under the guise of religion.

Chile I believe is a direct democracy and they just voted to amend their constitution to cleanse the nation of over-privatization. They fantasize about when Chile was an American dictatorship-by-proxy because they only pay attention to other nations when America gets involved, and they can’t fathom that anything changes anywhere in the world without America telling it to.

You know, in the old days of Buckley and National Review, more than a few conservatives hated democracy and preferred Franco's Spain or apartheid South Africa. (Several said, in the late 60s, that if "things were going to keep going this way," they'd flee to South Africa.)

I assume more than a few conservatives now want to flee America for the rule of Duda and Orban and Putin... but imagine if one of these Pinochet lovers went to Russia. Imagine the shock when they learn Russia isn't an ethnostate and has tons of Muslims. Imagine their terror when they see all the old Soviet statues still standing. Imagine them going apeshit when they talk to a Russian and he casually says "All the good Russian movies were Soviet movies."

Soviet Russia was a shit hole but history is written by the victors, and for most people that lived through the Cold War era and their children, there’s a sense of history and unity in that era’s culture that many still cling to as a sense of national identity, much like many conservatives still insist that the Confederacy is their heritage and birthright despite only lasting about as long as the average high school education, only the Soviet Union actually had real power in the world. I’d imagine if America had collapsed instead, Soviet’s would be talking about how horrible capitalism was and they had “gulags” where they rounded up people for growing plants the government didn’t like and forced them in to slave labor, while the poor suffered and the rich only got richer which let them bribe more politicians to make them even richer and the poor even poorer, which is PROOF that capitalism never works.

Im not advocating for communism don’t get me wrong, I just find it funny how these people just do not have the capacity to see things from any perspective not hand crafted for them in Boomer Facebook memes.

It doesn’t matter if their music was anti-communist (despite them openly saying it wasn’t, but it’s obvious they only said that so they wouldn’t get taken out by the KGB), the average Trumpie assumes that anything made in Russia = communist.

Like I said, they like Russia now because of Putin. He's the defender of white culture and Christianity now or something (never mind it's the wrong kind of Christianity).

But I think the average American would be shocked to see how much Soviet stuff there still is in Russia, especially in the culture. All the ideological stuff is gone and you can't buy kids' biographies of Lenin anymore, but a lot of the old Soviet classics are still available and still being republished. And of course, nobody bats an eye at letting their kids watch Cheburashka wanting to join the Pioneers.

But I digress. We were talking about how Trump fans have the red-under-every-bed mindset...
