The problem with the lockdown procedures with the new mutation (which doesn't have higher lethality than the main strain, mind you) is that it's already too late to try and contain.

Once they found out about it, it's been spreading for days, maybe weeks. They've already found it in the Netherlands, Italy, South Africa, etc.

Everyone trying to avoid being locked down in a hellhole city is already fleeing for different locations to be with friends and family.

"Cancelling Christmas" is a show that will do nothing to stop any real spread. It's a power move. Always has been, always will be.

I'm also confused by this super strain too. I can't really tell if they just made up an existence of a super strain to let everyone stay in their houses and ruin the mood farther for the holidays, or there is a super strain happening and it just happened near the holidays by coincidence.
Even then, I don't get the point of another lockdown since its not more dangerous than the last, it seems its only just spreading faster with the same symptoms. And of course, it's winter anyway.
EDIT: I'm not that well-versed on viruses, but is it spreading faster is a good thing for us? since it can 'burn' itself out to be 'weaker' (i don't know a better description) and people get the antibodies faster.

This is coming from the CDC - they have NO excuse for not presenting data sensibly. It’s not quite as bad as the ‘deaths per million deaths in Sweden’ one (it’d take 11years to have a million deaths in Sweden, that metric has no business on any y axis.)

My point was actually that the curve is dipping again, despite the "any minute now hospitals will be overrun!". If this trend continues the dreaded second wave will have been weaker than the first.

This was never about how dangerous the virus was or wasn't. Their whole justification for stopping the movement of otherwise healthy people was "muh asymptomatic spread!".

But yeah at the population level it *should* be less dangerous because it will spread quicker and out-compete other substrains (including more lethal ones), and the (overwhelming majority) survivors will get resistance (though it might strain medical resources if everyone gets it at once).
Resistance/*immunity* is more about the ability of T-cells to recognize and destroy infected cells, and B-cells to produce antibodies than the antibodies themselves.

And if what I had the first time (Nov 2019) wasn’t COVID, it was actually worse than my confirmed case of COVID. I was coughing so much I couldn’t sleep and I seriously thought I was going to pop a blood vessel in my eye or something from all the coughing. Barely any coughing with my confirmed case. The worst symptom has been a dulled sense of taste and smell, but even that’s not all bad as it’s made it really easy to resist holiday treats. I’m not taking the vaccine either.
