I suspect its the former. Lucas knows falling for a catfish gets him ridiculed and makes him look like a complete idiot, which is the thing he hates most. As much as he may want to take up the offer even if its just to avoid freezing to death in spokane, I can't see him intentionally looking the other way knowing hes going to look like an idiot and won't hear the end of it just for that. On that note, it would be hilarious if lucas gets there, decides to stay for awhile anyway because of the warmer climate and whatnot and just after christmas they announce all interstate flights out of california are grounded for a month or two cause of the virus, leaving him stranded there. Even if that doesn't happen I still can't see him being able to get a plane ticket himself, especially considering the tickets are only going to be this cheap for a couple weeks or so and shortly after christmas he'll be looking at prices there is no way he'll be able to afford. I really think this might lead to him getting stuck in california for the long term, or at least until he gets himself killed
On the plus side, the young women of spokane can breathe a sigh of relief that he will not be haunting them at scc

I don't disagree. If he doesn't get his ass back to spokane somehow quite soon he never will be able to. Frankly I don't care what happens to him and as far as i'm concerned he has had this coming for a long time, whatever happens to him there will inevitably be his own doing. Even lucas, dumbshit that he is, should have known better than to think this was a legit offer. Its not like this is the first or even second time this has happened. The catfish may have bought the ticket but lucas is the one who went for it, so he is just as responsible for whatever happens as the catfish. That said, i'm sure doing what the catfish has done here has to be violating some kind of law, especially considering it involves a disbled person and interstate travel. Might even be breaking a federal law somewhere in there. If someone kills him I can see them being held criminally responsible for putting him in the situation to begin with

I suspect there are laws against it when doing so involves catfishing someone you know to be disabled and of questionable competence, especially when you spend time trying to convince them you are someone you are not to entice them to do so. I know if you did this with a minor you'd be doing serious prison time. It can't be all that different for doing it to a disabled person of questionable mental competence

Not of their own volition, barring a serious incident involving lucas, which to be fair isn't that unlikely given his history of chimping out. But if he disappears entirely, sooner or later his parents will figure out he's not in spokane anymore and somehow ended up in california. Myrna does have a history of trying to start shit on lucas's behalf, albeit to make herself look good. But I can see her wanting the attention of 'my poor disabled son was lured to a dangerous place and killed by trolls harassing him on the internet' and going to the media about it, and causing a shitstorm if the cops refuse to bust their asses looking into it. It would allow her to use lucas to play victim and get lots of positive attention. If that should happen, I would not want to be in the shoes of whoever catfished him onto a plane
That said, lucas had better milk the stewardesses for all the pepsticks and free peanuts he can get cause he's about to be up shit creek with no food and a long distance from the nearest hobo shelter. Hell he probably won't even be able to find a hobo shelter. He'll creep around the airport until they get annoyed with him enough to tell him to leave. Though that doesn't solve his food problem. Christmas should be quite interesting for the wern. Especially if his mother calls him to wish him a merry christmas and he mentions he's been in california all week and doesn't know what to do. No matter how this ends it should be quite entertaining. There is a good chance he will never see washington state again. He's about to encounter a homeless community the likes of which he has never seen, that will utterly eat him alive. Hell just wandering around he could easily be stupid enough to wander into gang territory and piss somebody off saying the wrong thing. If he doesn't leave quickly its only a matter of time before something real bad happens to him one way or another
