You know, I’ve tight about this, and I think the whole "former fujos become enbies, fakebois, and rabid antis" thing is just a tad overblown. At least based on what I’ve seen these days.

I don’t think those shippers actually went anywhere, it’s just that the slang they used simply changed. Gay male shipping content is still the majority in most fan bases, most of the cliches associated with yaoi shippers still exist under different labels, and most of the ones producing that content still identify as women. They just don’t call themselves fujoshis or use the old lingo like "seme/uke" and shit. Weirdly, it seems like the ones who go full anti-fujoshi and/or fakeboi are either bitter women in their 30s and the impressionable youth that get caught up in their antics, or the ones who tend to be into the shit that’s considering especially un-kosher in woke circles like sissyfication or crossdressing - lolcows like Yaoi Goddess Keale and Julien Myers come to mind.

If anything the bigger friction in fan communities these days seem to be self-appointed snot-nosed kids bleating to random fan artists that they’re predators and hags for the crime of drawing fanart while being over 20 - even when the fanart is for something that was always meant for adults.

The slang has changed but I think it also depends on what specific circles you move in. Where I'm at, I see a fair amount of SJWs and fakebois. It's almost to the point that sometimes I feel like hardly any weeb girls under 30 identify as female anymore. Other circles might not be as bad.

Though I agree, a lot of the most rabid fandom puritans are dumb kids on a high horse. Hopefully most will get real problems and mature out of that shit eventually.

Agree. I think in small doses someone headcanoning or writing a fic where a character is trans is fine (as long as they're honest if it's just blatant fetish material, and if it's not keep shit not too tumblr-tastic), but seeing people insisting every damn character is trans or that characters are dumb MOGAI shit gets old fast. Especially since you even see it with characters who canonically can't be trans because they've been shown naked or given birth/fathered children. Also shit like insisting a boyish female character has to be a trans man or NB grinds my gears.

Also when people act like their blatant fetishy fap fodder is progressive and awesome trans representation ala rcdart.

The ironic thing is characters who are canonically trans often get ignored, or you have people insisting they are actually trans, like Grell from Black Butler.

True, it does depend on the fan base, and I’m sure certain works are more prone to fakebois and antis than others - newer series that have younger demographics right from the get-go and stuff that already contains the kind of content that already attracts parasitic SJWs, for instance. But I actually meant that even in those circles the ones who actually make fan content on the regular are rarely the same ones who put he/him or they/them in their as a free pass to act like a twat and/or obsessively try to micromanage everything to maintain shipping purity. The extreme antis I have found either gradually stopped making content because posting rants gets them the same amount of attention as art or writing for a fraction of the effort until eventually they stop altogether, or they only made shitty SJW Art sporadically... if they ever made anything to begin with. And like I said the fakebois especially seem to be the ones who make the really fetish-y shit like m-preg or crossdressing porn, plain ol’ vanilla slash seems to still be majority women.

Although, to clarify, I was more referring too antis, i.e. the people hyper-focused on "bad" fans who ship the wrong thing or like the wrong character, specifically. Antis I think are a specific subset of SJW fans but not necessarily synonymous with all SJW fans IMO.

I though the author more or less said bluntly that Grell is a trans woman? Not that she's even remotely a good person, just that she identifies as female and isn't an ~uwu kawaii yaoi bishie~ like a good chunk of the BB fandom insists.

I'm sure there's tumblr outrage over Black Butler now (and to be fair is absolutely is a trashy shota series that had an awful fandom), but yeah a shitton of tumblr kids got their start in that fandom.

It is definitely hilarious that now those kids call ships between adult characters with an age difference pedophilia but got their start as weebs into a series that sexualizes 12 year olds.

Most Tumblr antis are either blatant hypocrites or embarrassed about having been into trashy shota and think they can atone for their sins by getting into anti culture. Like SJWs who used to be sexist or racist and now yell about anything less than perfectly PC on the internet thinking that erases their past.

Hell, I remember lesbianrey straight up admitting she used to be a huge Twilight fan who shipped Edward and Bella, and I don't think that's unrelated to her becoming a tumblrina that obsessively screeches about Reylo being horrible and abusive and how everyone that likes it should kill themselves.

Tbh I think a lot of these anti types still like that ~problematic~ shit and have issues with being racist and sexist, and that's why they overcompensate and morality police other people who are at least honest about liking questionable shit.

I fell off of Black Butler years ago, but I remember apparently being the weird one of shipping Ciel with Lizzy since I enjoyed their chemistry the most. Never really got the Ciel/Sebastian shipping since the latter was a literal demon waiting for Ciel to die after his revenge and just enjoyed playing with Ciel. My main interest in Black Butler was Snake anyway and he sadly didn't show up much around the time I stopped reading, though I don't remember him going through the same shipping drama. At least that I can remember. Most of it was around Ciel and Sebastian.

Something I can't stand about a lot of shippers, which some authors also end up doing, is neglect that people can have other kinds of relationships outside of romantic/sexual. I can't count the number of times I've seen a complex relationship in a story boiled down to "lol they should fuck" while ignoring how the characters actually view each other.
