At will employment means a company can fire you for any or no reason so long as it's not explicitly illegal. There is not any benefit to the workers from this but it also has few negative repercussions (and odds are the companies that do exploit it have the money and lawyers to get away with it and would even under a very pro labor administration).

So add "employment at will" to the list of things Phil parrots without understanding along with "communism".
