I may think Batista fucked up a lot by my American Standards. That said, he made Cuba into one of the most prosperous nations in the Caribbean, if not all of Latin America. Then after Communism struck? Boom! All the best industries fled to the Dominican Republic or Central America. Communism fucked Cuba up so badly they couldn't get quality goods for a long time. There are cars in Cuba from the 40s and 50s that are still in nearly new condition because the Cubans kept rebuilding them to use instead of the garbage the ComBloc offered them, and the same goes for most items like fridges, stoves, etc. It was better to just keep rebuilding decades old American made stuff than it was to take brand new Commie made goods. Then again, back in the 40s and 50s American made actually meant something and the goods were built to last back then, unlike now where everything is basically built to be replaced.

A few years ago, in the interest of energy efficiency, the Cuban government started a fridge replacement program. They'd replace your old American fridge with a modern Chinese one.

In the US past, it went waaaaay beyond social disapproval and yes, many gays/trans people were straight up murdered and a lot of that was based on “social disapproval”. Hell, it happens even now. The only difference is that the government no longer turns a blind eye. At least not in the way it used to. In other countries that aren’t “Communist”, many gays most certainly are murdered and put into “hospitals”, so Maoism is still nothing special in regards to homosexuality/trans.

Not really, mostly they were just ignored. For instance even in ancient times, the Germanic tribes were considered unusual for executing them by drowning them in bogs. Actual systematic persecution has been sporadic and inconsistent. And there's a huge difference between gay-bashing by random people and actual extermination by the government. This is a pretty simple concept really.
