Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

The politicians don't, I guarantee that. It's no different than how Republicans from like 1985 - 2015 or so were committed to saying the stupidest fundie Christian shit like the theory of evolution was created by Satan or George W. Bush is a god-fearing man anointed by Christ himself to save souls in America and the Middle East. They needed to look like paragons of fundamentalist Christianity to motivate their voters and donors, and one of their major groups of donors were megachurches. The megachurch preachers themselves who spread this message mostly don't believe this either since they're using religion for money and power. Small-time pastors definitely believe it. The megachurch attendees, some of whom are wealthy themselves and have high places in society, also of course believe it.

There's a mirror on the left now where politicians compete to say the stupidest shit to please their own religious base, which is a secular religion based in a mix of DA SCIENCE and ensuring the Whig history narrative of constant progress (we can define "progress" because DA SCIENCE tells us what progress is) is fulfilled. Instead of Satan we have historical demons like Columbus, Robert E. Lee, and Hitler and modern demons like Trump. If we destroy the power and influence of these demons, we'll right every single wrong in society. Politicians don't believe this shit although they might believe some elements of it, like I'd be shocked if even AOC believes half of that. The equivalent of the megachurches is DA EXPUHTS like influential college professors, journalists, or social media influencers and organizations like Black Lives Matter. They're after money and power and fame and say what they need to. Now your average Twitter user definitely believes this shit, as do some low level journalists and influencers.

What this means is that the left is now caught in the trap of having to appear holier than thou and make the most insane pronouncements on race and gender as possible. Like I don't believe for a minute your average Congressman (D) looked at that dumb bitch who accused Kavanaugh and thought "yes, she's telling the truth and is stunning and brave," especially since liars tend to recognize other liars. Or that these people give a shit about blacks when they pass laws like the "superpredator" bill, or that they care about gays when Obama opposed gay marriage in 2008. But that doesn't matter, they need to out-do each other on how feminist they are, how concerned about equity they are, etc.

Chinavirus is the latest sham the left latched onto. They get to feel morally superior about things as always so they damn well have to scream it to the winds and outdo each other. It's obvious they don't know shit about the virus or are worried about it (other than in a "demons are gonna get me" sense), otherwise they'd wear respirators and warn others how masks aren't very effective instead of taking faggy mask selfies. The influencers and other shysters are seeing an opportunity for more money and power. And the politicians as always aren't believing this shit since every week people catch them breaking their own rules. But they damn well love the power and love getting to outdo each other.

tl;dr It's a three-tier hierarchy

Politicians (don't believe)
|
Donors/Influencers (don't believe)
|
True believers (believe)
So it's like every other dominant belief system ever? Is this type of fanatical one-upsmanship in the name of the locally dominant ideology how we got Kamikaze attacks and the Crusades?

re: the new strain, a professor of virology at Columbia university did a very informative video about why it's all bullshit. You'll likely need some amount of bio knowledge to understand what he's saying, but I found it very informative and thought he was great at explaining how he reached his conclusions. I've got it archived but it's 2 large 2 upload. Do we have some service where large video archives go?

This particular guy's whole youtube channel is also very informative and interesting discussion on the virus and virology in general.

The Satanic World Order is coming

And of course this is the heart of the matter: what people will do to avoid serious career consequences. I can't honestly say what choice I will make when this is inevitably imposed upon me. I talk tough here online, but I have an actual life with actual loved ones who depend on me being employed and not banished from society. Many others are in the same boat as I am in that they feel a visceral loathing at having any of this shit forced upon them, but are held hostage by the threat of ruination for not bending the knee to the Branch Covidian cult being dangled over their heads.

That link you posted showcases the attitude that many have where they will gleefully ruin other people's lives to soothe their own anxieties about this virus, or simply to signal that they are one of the Good People who don't Question The Science. What they're actually doing is seeking absolution through ritual intonement of the tenets of their faith. We've seen this behavior expressed in other ways in recent years: the shrieking accusations of one's enemies being racist/sexist/homophic/nazis, efforts to get people fired or physically hurt over online disputes (some of which are incomprehensibly petty), the nationwide BLM hysteria over the summer, and now widespread shaming over COVID-questioning. The fact is that we're living in the middle of a religious panic, with all the bad shit that entails. "Cancelation" is the modern day equivalent of branding someone as a heretic and the mania to cast out the demons in our midst in order to be saved grows more and more intense as this keeps ramping up.

I do wonder if the politicians and the donor class are fully aware of this madness gripping society and are cynically exploiting it to gain power and wealth, or if they also genuinely believe the things they say. The fact that many have gotten caught in recent weeks blowing off their own emergency orders suggests that they get that this is a sham, but I'm not 100% sure anymore.

Sadly these branch Covidians will go to no ends to destroy your life if you make them even a little uncomfortable by disagreeing. I lost a job/contract because of my posting of differing opinions on mask use and efficacy. Some cult member went to the lengths of creating multiple email addresses to track down the workplace then harass the ceo till they submitted.

I have to be vague for powerleveling reasons, but I've been privy to a fair bit of business being conducted by people who belong to that strata. Interestingly, the amount of wokespeak and buzzwords they use in common conversation and decisonmaking is incredible. Mind you, this is when there aren't any cameras on them, so there's no reason to keep up pretenses if they were lying. There seems to be at least some level of genuine belief at work.

If this is true; we are F U C K E D

Mutations are incredibly common for this type of virus. Different mutations are called variants, but they aren't considered strains unless they have distinct biological behavior (i.e. they make you sick in some distinctly different way). Most variants are neutral and have no real effect on the disease. There is no good evidence that this is anything more than a variant that is coming up frequently in one particular area because it just happens to be the variant spreading there. The suspicion that it's more virulent is based on flawed assumptions and bad understanding of how viruses operate, as well as unhelpfully panicky media coverage by underqualified science reporters.

Basically a bunch of retards who are bad at science are panicking over nothing.

The Wuflu is gay. Locking down the country didn't work the first time, the virus has mutated and we will face a 2008 recession in a few years.
2008 will look like an economic boom compared to what's coming the moment the government stops injecting hot air into the economy. It's a return to 1970s stagflation with rampant inflation and high unemployment. Joe Biden wants to raise taxes. All of these cities and a bunch of states are raising taxes, usually by insane amounts, like take Nashville which has been in the news lately, there's a 33% property tax hike coming in 2021. Property is being swallowed up and it won't be coming back to small businesses or homeowners at a cheap price.

If you thought 2020 was bad, you haven't seen anything yet. At least the first 2-3 months (depending where you live) were good in 2020.

The point is to make you panic. Everything they say is true--there are new mutations going around--but they neglect to tell you that it's a normal thing and there's been all sorts of new mutations for months.

My guess is this narrative is being pushed because people are increasingly ignoring the current scare tactics and they're scared that with the vaccine so close people will care even less.

What are your sources for the economic chaos? Common sense from unemployment?

is this kind of article that make me want to murder people
Tl:dr in my province prime minister legault, forbid christmas gathering and treat the one who do it anyway with salty fine.
In r/quebec they were some meme that was like christmas gathering: 2500$, vacancy in the south 1500$
I dunno if people have took this meme seriously because some will travel, air canada strangely is curently open
And damn people are screaming; HOW DARE YOU GO TO THE SOUTH AND COME BACK TO CONTAMINATE EVERYONE!?
Geez isn't like those oppressive rule actively encourage people to runaway 🙄

And lol the guy who believe if everyone follow the sanitary procedure like docile sheep everything will come back to normal™ and is not because the coronavirus act more like a yearly and seasonal influenza that only the crazy claim they can control it

Sorry if someone already mentionned it but that I founded that article of the NY Times via this tweet about that charlatan Fauci amd herd immunity. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/24/health/herd-immunity-covid-coronavirus.html

At what point does a country achieve herd immunity? What portion of the population must acquire resistance to the coronavirus, either through infection or vaccination, in order for the disease to fade away and life to return to normal?
Since the start of the pandemic, the figure that many epidemiologists have offered has been 60 to 70 percent. That range is still cited by the World Health Organization and is often repeated during discussions of the future course of the disease.
Although it is impossible to know with certainty what the limit will be until we reach it and transmission stops, having a good estimate is important: It gives Americans a sense of when we can hope to breathe freely again.
Recently, a figure to whom millions of Americans look for guidance — Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, an adviser to both the Trump administration and the incoming Biden administration — has begun incrementally raising his herd-immunity estimate.
In the pandemic’s early days, Dr. Fauci tended to cite the same 60 to 70 percent estimate that most experts did. About a month ago, he began saying “70, 75 percent” in television interviews. And last week, in an interview with CNBC News, he said “75, 80, 85 percent” and “75 to 80-plus percent.”
In a telephone interview the next day, Dr. Fauci acknowledged that he had slowly but deliberately been moving the goal posts. He is doing so, he said, partly based on new science, and partly on his gut feeling that the country is finally ready to hear what he really thinks.
Hard as it may be to hear, he said, he believes that it may take close to 90 percent immunity to bring the virus to a halt — almost as much as is needed to stop a measles outbreak.
Asked about Dr. Fauci’s conclusions, prominent epidemiologists said that he might be proven right. The early range of 60 to 70 percent was almost undoubtedly too low, they said, and the virus is becoming more transmissible, so it will take greater herd immunity to stop it.

One thing I always find interesting about these incidents is that someone in the crowd always eventually approaches the unmasked person (wouldn't this increase their risk, by their logic?) and asks or tells them to leave while standing quite close to them.

If you're afraid of the virus, why are you approaching someone you think is potentially infected? It almost seems like if only subconsciously, they know this woman can't hurt them, and they also know she is healthy and fine, but they can't admit that to themselves.

For the areligious like myself, this smacks of religion. A cult of doom. All must prostrate themselves before the coof. "Please Coof, spare me today. Please Coof, strike down the heretics, they do not acknowledge your might and power."
It's not even religion in some cases; it's flat out hypocrisy. Look at what's happening in California -- a place where we see everyone from celebs to nobodies screeching on social media about the evils of privilege. Earlier in this thread, someone posted caps of people in that state willing to pay $25 k (if not more!) to move up in line to get their COVID vaccines. Them using their money and influence to get ahead of those who should be getting the vaccine -- some of whom may be in the same marginalized groups for whom they champion on social media -- is the textbook example of the privilege they're rallying against online despite wielding it offline. :story:

I talk tough here online, but I have an actual life with actual loved ones who depend on me being employed and not banished from society. Many others are in the same boat as I am in that they feel a visceral loathing at having any of this shit forced upon them, but are held hostage by the threat of ruination for not bending the knee to the Branch Covidian cult being dangled over their heads.
Many people are in the same boat where they don't want any of the COVID vaccines currently in production but may have to take them anyways if it means the difference between bringing home a paycheck and being unemployed/unemployable. It's real bind for those people who have been raised to not allow themselves to be forced into something they don't want only to be told they need a COVID vaccine if they want to be able to either work or continue to fully participate in society as a whole *sigh*

Lockdowns don’t work. It remains a mystery as to why the world entered one

Surjit S Bhalla writes: Lockdowns were an unnatural experiment and, around the world, they have not worked in achieving their major health objective of less infections or slower pace of infections.

Biden Paves the Path for New Face Mask Protocols

A true patriotic act would've been not resorting to voter fraud to "win" an election.

Sorry, but I can't take Biden seriously when he's talking of "patriotism" and "integrity" after everything he's done.

How biden will continue his 70% tax increase considering he's going to shut down the country again. Yeah he says "it's only for those who make 400k+) but lets be honest the higher class will outsource or move to another country.
I'll give him and the Democrats credit on one thing, even I didn't think they'd resort to trying to squeeze more money out of the people they helped put out of work. I naïvely thought a far worse tax season would kill their lockdown boner and make them consider reopening to make up for that shortfall, but they somehow found another way to sink lower in my eyes.

Even if their actions lead to the next great depression, they might be brazen enough to force more lockdowns.
