Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

You know when I go out and about in the American midwest, there's one demographic I rarely see wearing a mask. It's males between late teens to early 40s of this one group. I don't want to say who it is, but if you look at the numbers, it matches what I've noticed.
This actually seems consistent with the numbers on my county's COVID dashboard. It seems like the younger age groups have the most cases here -- perhaps because they figure they don't need to take precautions -- and the older, vulnerable population accounts for 2/3 of the deaths.

I also find it amusing how the statewide media is already reporting a holiday surge already even though our county hasn't had a death in a week and we're down below 100 cases per day. And they wonder why fewer people believe their spin doctoring,

The vaccine registry shit is just bizarre to me and sets off endless warning sirens. You don't have to present your papers everywhere to show you've had the measles vaccine, and measles is a disease that is extremely dangerous for young children (like "major cause of infant mortality" dangerous), pregnant women (high risk of miscarriage or deformed children), the elderly, and people with AIDS. Even after outbreaks at Disneyland (which IIRC killed people) caused by antivaxxer tards you still didn't have to present papers or have a pass saying "yes, I have been vaccinated against measles" just to get into Disney or any other public venue.

I just don't see how you can't become a "conspiracy theorist" about it when the actual numbers from the CDC and WHO and actual science from published papers supports none of these reactions we're seeing (and basically never did). We're caught in an endless feedback loop of mass hysteria.
First, :semperfi: for your work in what's probably a shitty setting right now, @Local Coyote. Given California's population, LA county's numbers aren't too surprising even if the per capita rate is significantly larger than other major cities.
I wonder if LA might be getting what NYC had earlier this year, given LA's numbers weren't that large proportionately at first. That seems to be the case in areas currently seeing a lot of cases--the virus never really established itself in those areas, no doubt because lockdown bullshit kept it from spreading as fast as it naturally would. Which isn't necessarily a good thing since dragging out economic damage and panic just makes things worse.

In my area face mask litter is putting up a good fight against cigarette pack, water bottle, or McDonalds litter for trashy dominance. That is impressive considering the prevalence of the competition.

She is a literal psycho, one of the craziest people highlighted in the media through this ordeal, so that fits her brand just right. She's one of those scary dangerous types of mainstream lolcows.

A hospital in my city "accidentally" left 50 doses of the Moderna vaccine out of the fridge overnight, rendering them unusable.

I would bet a two-dollar bill that those vaccines will be sold under the table to wealthy recipients. I have lost absolutely all trust in anything "the news" or "authorities" have to say about this fucking virus.

Update on the State Fair Park facility: 0 patients. Over the life of the facility: 168.

A new mobile testing center is going to Barack Obama High School (ugh) because the Mayor and Governor are mad that their post-Thanksgiving testing numbers are not UP UP UP UP UP!! Symptoms or no, GET YOUR ASS TESTED PEOPLE we need that fear to grift harder!! Don't you know the post-Christmas spike is coming? WELL, DON'T YOU? 'Cause it is! WE SAY SO!

You bring up a point I've touched on before. Governmental incompetence at the various levels (Federal, State, and Local), has probably done as much to fuel the spread as the lack of either basic hygiene or social distancing has. For months, we've seen different levels of government issue contradictory directives and adopt restrictions that make no sense or seemingly have nothing to do with COVID (such as Michigan banning people from buying spray paint earlier this Spring).

I think what we're seeing is the culmination of nine-plus months of built-up frustration over the both indefinite goalpost moving and the lack of a collaborative effort between the various layers of government when it comes to addressing COVID. People have started not giving a damn even if it means they put themselves more at risk for COVID in the process simply because they're sick and tired of the bullshit and they've stopped caring.

It really is clown world 🤡. In my state, the minority lieutenant governor has consistently stated that the disproportionate frequency of COVID in the POC community is the result of "institutional racism" that needs to be addressed and eliminated. Meanwhile, Ithaca college is exempting anyone who identifies as a minority from COVID vaccine requirements for reasons that boil down to lowered expectations for minorities. So much for working together to address inequalities whether real or perceived.

Landlords whose tenants can't or wont pay rent while eviction moratoriums are in place are really behind the 8 ball because they still have expenses to pay such as upkeep, taxes, insurance even if they're receiving zero rent money. I can easily see them raising rents for the next paying tenants in their property to make up for what they're currently not receiving to cover those expenses. The longer eviction moratoriums last, the more likely rents will increase in the short term once they're finally lifted.
===
On today's news, I heard something about a COVID passport. I'm not sure if this is a new idea or something that's been kicked around for awhile, but I don't trust the idea to be properly administered and balanced with privacy concerns.
You can only raise rent so much before you price yourself out of the market. I think there will be a shortage of qualified renters. Landlords are going to have to weigh the risks of renting to people with an eviction, bad credit, and collections for non payment of rent.

Speaking of LA county, this reddit post had me laughing my ass off this morning.

Oh no, not my Marvel movies! Not my heckin Netflix originals! What am I supposed to do while "working" from home if theres nothing new to watch?!

Then the employees come in to bitch. Because apparently unemployment is good enough for the commoner but god forbid a boom operator has to use it. Suddenly it's not enough. Suddenly the lockdowns are like, totally unfair. They're taking it super serious guys. Really these employees are terrified theyll permanently lose their jobs as the film industry tightens up their finances. And, speaking from experience, low level set employees are some of the most cucked, docile people on the planet. They're desperate to please but also want to be seen as special or important cause they said "hey" to Tom Cruise in 2008. And they just know film sets are fine, please keep buying $15 movie tickets, their pedo bosses arent going to be happy otherwise.

I have a feeling a lot of coronashit is going to be over in spring. Scumbag politicians are smug now but they're going to shit themselves when tax revenue is 75% lower than last year.

The Great Reset matters more than some 75% lower tax revenue. Seeing the plebian serfs be forced to eat bugs and live in pods is arousing and funny, and no amount of lost cash will stop the powers that be to lord over the subhuman masses.

The property taxes have already been raised about 30 percent on a lot of people here, including us. Mr. Man was doing bills this morning and was just a little pissed off at the extra $300 bucks to live in this shithole (not the house, love the house, put house 7 blocks east and it's valuation would double).

Also apparently LA is expecting you to quarantine for 10 days. Good luck enforcing that one, Garshitty.

I know I'm definitely not following it when I get back as I have things to do and an impromptu, out of state snowboarding trip to prepare for.

I've already had people hint they'd be willing to pay large amounts of money to be vaccinated.

Charging for the vaccine could probably get you disenrolled from Medicare and Medicaid though. Not really worth it.

At least when we're in [Great] Reset Era the lockdowns will end, right?

That's funny, because you could probably pay large amounts of money to be "vaccinated" and get the mandatory papers.

We can hope, but some have pointed out that local governments are resorting to raising taxes instead.

Brilliant idea, put millions out of work and on the brink of homelessness, and expect them to pony up more cash to make up for the shortfall you've caused in a blind panic over an overhyped disease. You'd think that the cities that've been bleeding out over the course of 2020 wouldn't try to squeeze more blood from their battered constituents (at least those that remain), but I guess the leaders prefer letting their cities die than admit they jumped the gun.

Maybe some will come around and smell the smoke, but arrogance is a hell of a drug.
