Apple's App Store art is fucking horrendous | Flat art / Alegria / Corporate Memphis - click for feet

I've always found this style just so bland and overused. Sure, the vector-esque smooth shapes and limited colour palettes are charming, but all of the actual designs on the people are so fucking similar it's just boring now. It looks like it's all the same one single artist. Not to mention, it just looks ugly at times. I've noticed they tend to enjoy making the humans just overly chunky for some fucking reason, so the anatomy just looks really weird. tiny heads, big chunky arms and legs that look offputting.

This topic got me wondering about it, and I had a google for articles talking about this style and its relevance in the tech industry. One of the first pictures to come up...

Triggering my trypophobia. If you don't know what it means I dare you to google it.

Isn't "trypophobia" just a instinctual reaction to seeing something that vaguely resembles a nest of insects that could deliver pain? I saw this whole term rise up but to me it's like arachnophobia. No shit people are scared of things that resemble dangerous things.

Yes that's true but I wouldn't know what else to call it. I think the instinct is more about disease more than insects, although it could be a mix of both. I think there are some people that have an irrational fear that could be a phobia, but spiders, holes and snakes are generally hated/feared instinctually unless you expose yourself to them on a regular basis.

The worst example of the "Make all marketing flat" trend is whatever the fuck these things the Kroger company has been pushing are

Yeah, that commercial is going to give me an aneurysm. And it's not just the character design, either, but the smug look on their faces and the terrible dances. Possibly the worst commercial in circulation right now.

And I just got this piece of literal AIDS on my mobile browser. Looks like PayPal is jumping on-board as someone suggested earlier.

I always saw it as resembling some sort of horrible fungal infection.

Happy new year from Apple’s own interracial family of blob people.

Just what do they have against black women, anyway? I guess the kind of up-your-own-ass thinking that makes them believe anyone likes this kind of shitty art also makes them believe anyone truly wants to watch a look back at 2020 starring a bunch of celebrities.

Just about anything on the front page of the App Store that doesn’t already have an established art style looks like this in some manner. Here’s a video of how it looks today:

Something else I noticed: it’s so impersonal, I didn’t actually have to edit anything out that could dox me. It’s just so sterile and lifeless. I’d trust Chris-Chan to design a better storefront.
