I can respect that, but you have to admit, it is pretty fucking cold of someone to just go "Well, it mostly affects old people, so what do I care if they croak?" Those words might not have been used here, but we don't need to distract us with fancy rhetoric or nice buzzwords, that is the sentiment that a couple of people have given here.
And it's hilariously hypocritical. Nevermind that some faggot is still rambling on, pretending the awefully stupid tiktok videos were made at the height of triage, even though it has been stated numerous times that they happened at the beginning of the pandemic. And I certainly don't see anyone doing tiktoks nowadays. It's just a silly attempt to distract from the whole situation and for what it's worth:
I really hope these faggots are right and this will blow over without much effect on the population, old or young. However given that I know of several retirement homes in my vicinity where all inhabitants died due to the coof and when I look at places hard hit during the first wave like Lombardia, I am expecting bad shit to happen. When Triage starts to be employed, things will excalate rather quickly and by then, lockdowns and masks won't do any good for quite some time.
I thought this post deserved a serious and well thought out answer. If it sounds at some level that our sympathy for the old is relatively low comparatively to everyone else in this situation, that's because it is. When bad things happen you often have to pick the least bad outcome. In this case making sure the economy survives and the kids can keep going to school is a lot more important than keeping a few extra geriatrics alive.
People die and the young dying is a far greater tragedy than the old. It's just true, in the event of shootout the grandad should shield the father who shields his son because in that very order is the priority of life and continued existence of the species. It's not out of contempt for the old in fact I believe that the old deserve a level of deference and respect in a way we don't pay to people under 21. However, when it comes to whose life is more important. The answer is the young.
Now the mere preservation of (a) life itself is not the end goal per se. The end goal is to keep society functioning. In order for society to function the children need an education so when they become adults they can actually read and be productive adults; the adults need to be engaged in economic activity and need to be in a position to bequeath that economic opportunity to the next generation.
The lockdowns have crippled the economy, destabisiling households and crushed capitol needed for investment. The schooling system has been put on hold disrupting the education and socialisation of young. Children need to be brought up in structured environment so by the time they become adults they will be able to cope and practice self discipline. A disruption to this chain will lead to problems further down the line.
Then there is the immediate affect these lockdowns are having on the community as a whole. With an increasing number of people going into poverty there will be more deaths due substance abuse, poorer nutrition and suicide. In my country it has been estimated that for every 1% increase in the unemployment rate there is a corresponding 10,000 extra deaths per annum.
So in short, it's better a few more geriatrics die than suffer the misery both short and long term of sustained lockdown. We could better than nothing at all, but between lockdown and nothing at all I pick nothing at all.
So in short: It's better to have a few more old people die
Well, wouldn't say "the" true snowflakes, given what we can find on the fringes of the far left that seeps into the centre-left as well... more like the right has their own brand of deluded snowflakes with a victim-complex. But certainly the horseshoe-theory is in full swing once again.
Wouldn't it be kind of ironic if the slapfight between left and right caused them to vilify centrists to a degree that both political wings start to see them as collaborators and traitors and let out their frustration on them? 5 Day for us to find out what the right is going to amount to in DC, but I'll be surprised if it's even enough for a decent march.
That's some top tier gaslighting right there. People are truly pathetic.
Why you rate this dumb? Are people going to claim honestly that political violence over the past 4 years hasn't been more the domain of left?
