Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

For New Year’s Day, Zack just announced a bunch of new comics.

-TMNT but instead of turtles it’s adult Vietnam veterans
-Comedy about Bin Laden escaping into Las Vegas
-Street Fighter expies in a Predator-esque story against Mortal Kombat expies
-499 Book 2, apparently doubling down on Narwhal
-Tripling, actually, there’s also a “Hollywood story” with them too
-Iron Sights 3: One Good Dog
-Another printing of Lost Souls, distributed solely as add-ons for his other campaigns
-Impossible Stars 2: Escape Pod
-And finally, some sort of “magical realism superhero story” with an old-school Marvel writer.

All of these are currently planned for this year. He also mentions plans for 2022 and 2023, though with much less detail.

With how his campaigns have been consistently getting less attention, and the bad publicity from dropping the lawsuit, I really don’t see this increased output being remotely sustainable at this point.
None of that sounds exciting (except the last one).
He should have announced a Jawbreakers sequel (then again, The Expendables and Jawbreakers 3 have not been shipped yet).
Why is he settling for projects that would give him pocket change instead of an actual profit?

Oh, he did, for ‘22! Along with Impossible Stars 3, “Regiment”, and, inexplicably, Iron Sights 4. 2023 has Impossible Stars 4 and two more Iron Sights spinoffs.

...Did people even really like Iron Sights, to give it six books total like this?

I know people bought the first two and they reached their goals, so probably the series needs a third book.
But, announcing plans for 3 more already? Talk about counting chickens before they hatch.

A few of them sound like something I'd enjoy, but much like Impossible Stars, I'm not going to back another book until I get Expendables and Jawbreakers 3.

What's the fucking hold up on Expendables, anyways? We're almost at a year and wasn't it originally supposed to come out in summer then delayed to October?

this is coming from the same moron that said Wonder Woman 84 was a hit when it was panned by both sides of the political spectrum.

The Mandolorian is John Favre’s baby not Kathleen Kennedy’s And it is set to replace the Disney trilogy as canon. Even Mark Hamil has turned on her because he sees which way the tide is turning.

As for DC Rebirth... how woke do you want it?

All of those sound absolutely terrible, except for maybe the first and last one. I'd be interested to see the Vietnam Veterans one, since Zack could draw on his own experience as a soldier but a lot of those sound like garbage. It feels like Zack is following in the footsteps of Marvel, throwing as much crap against the wall to see what sticks. My copies of Pandemic and Ballad of No arrived recently, but I haven't got the energy to read them.

I've skipped Impossible Stars and 499, I think it's a mistake of Zack's to be drifting off into so many other projects. Every second campaign he does should be in the Jawbreakers universe and the other a spinoff series whether Iron Sights, Impossible Stars, Expendables etc.

Iron Sights was the worst crowdfunded comic I've ever read, until JDA's Robotoad recently replaced it. I backed the second issue as a curiosity but haven't got around to reading it yet.

i‘ve read the first two. The first one was ok although the storyline was really disjointed. The second one lost my interest really quick. After reading them I really can’t see how Zack can justify giving Iron Sights two more books in it‘s main story when he pretty much killed off everyone who mattered in the series.

In other news, Cecil’s Cash Grab book is scheduled for fulfillment this month. I’m not seeing any updates about this book going to the printers so, it’s a good bet that this book will be late.

Keep coping retard. I'll enjoy reading how Captain Marvel 2 making 2 billion dollars
A billion is the standard for mcu due to the china market and Disney usually having minority celebs buying theaters like Kendrick Lamar buying 3 theaters for black panther. Mcu movies have a good weekend but the returns like spiderman are pitiful. Comic book movies will probably collapse.

They will because no one is going to theaters because of COVID.

they have changed up their model. It’s all about streaming now.
Streaming is low budget.

No one at Disney or Warner is going to want to lay out $500,000,000 on a capes movie just for the streaming service.

Connor McGregor would have fought during Covid but the UFC held off because the live gate is what makes his steep paycheck worth while.

Tough times.

This is fun:

"How the Comics Industry Avoided a 2020 Implosion"

They give a few paragraphs to crowdfunding but somehow neglect to mention Frog or CG.

It was a story about China trying to create their own Justice League, so you know, stealing "ideas" from USA.

The author makes no real distinction between a shop having a GFM in order to keep a shop afloat and crowdfunding a comic book of Kickstarter, because those a totally the same thing.

For those reading in the thread. Iron Sight's 'gimmick' is how cheap it looks. It's all B&W. Drawn by Ibai Canales, whose an acquired taste. It's at least a 120 pages. However, the first was twenty dollars and the second was twenty five.

My question is this. Smug, TDB. Would you feel better if IS 1 and 2 were broken up into issues and sold by Alterna like their other books?

Some of Richard's projects feel like Alterna tier books. His recent outing with Narwhal for example. Do that in B&W except for maybe one primary color like red for when people bleed blood. Just my own reaction to all of this.

As for funding.

Richard's last project limped to six figures back in October with the Nexus package being the bulk of his sales.

499 Is at forty eight grand as of now. It'll be interesting, with 16 days how this will pan out. I think he can still hit six figures but he needs a good push from Frog and the real test will come over the next year as his choices settle in. I don't imagine there are backers refunding in droves. But if disgruntled, will they come back for future funding efforts?

Other than the race swapping of a few recognizable heroes, I couldn't tell you anymore cuz I never read any of the books.

But that second cover kind of speaks for itself.

I did. It was mixed. Some people enjoyed it because Gene had his Chinese Superman act like the Nu52 Superman. It's easily his best work at DC, but I wasn't really in love with DC heroes acting like thugs and bullies. Gene is a big SJW and its simply cringe enough to portray the Chinese government as anything but bad.

It was a story about China trying to create their own Justice League, so you know, stealing "ideas" from USA.

It was about an Chinese American SJW writing a book set in China co-opting pre existing identities because he couldn't create ones on his own that people would love. sound familiar?

Poor Antonio, I bet he thought he was going to make a killing partnering with a huge YouTuber like Daym Drops.

This will be used as a case study in how NOT to handle a campaign. It defies all logic, comprehension and understanding why the project wasn't announced on Daym's show or why he never heavily promoted it, he has the million+ subs!

I remember such numbers were thrown around speculating it would make between 30 & 60k, who would have thought that it would be eclipsed by the lowly Nasser himself...
