Yeah, I'm pretty sure the guy was reading the requirements of whatever he wanted to install incorrectly. The computer he had was less than 6 months old and reasonably high end (still not sure how he was able to afford it) so no part of it should have been an issue with just about anything.

Would you say whatever his condition is, is what Lucas could have, or its just one of its manifestations (hyper fixation) is the similarity between him and Lucas

No idea. He's just a customer. The group home he lives in is a mix of being for people who have mild intellectual disabilities of any sort, are autistic but not autistic enough that they can't generally function without a little supervision, or who have had a TBI and are no longer able to live independently but are otherwise generally functional (usually short term memory issues). No idea which camp he falls into, but considering how child-like he generally is my guess is he was just born that way.

Lucas' constant repetition of the same few (and incorrect) ideas, inability to read social cues, and his very obvious and clear hyperfixations reminds me of that guy . Whatever happened to his brain--and if you believe his mom it was "days" of having a "106 fever" which isn't possible as it'd be fatal due to cooking internal organs but if he did have a sustained high fever it absolutely could have caused permanent brain damage--it's 1000% damaged and damaged in a way that's going to always leave him incapable of being a functional adult without supervision.

Even when he was in therapy and drugged to the gills with psych meds, he never lost the same fixations. That's proof enough for me that he'll never be an independently functional adult and, if we had a working mental health care system here, would be someone that would have loooong since been put in a home where he was supervised by someone with a fully functional brain.

There is nothing original about this pasty yard gnome and when he hears something he takes it for his own, this is probably just one of the most recent examples.

I've been talking to him for 2 years now on an account he doesn't know is me. He's VERY, VERY different in private; not better, just different. Mostly, if you're not someone he's trying to fuck, his low self esteem, inability to socialize normally, defense mechanisms that keep him from having to face reality, and constant anxiety is extremely obvious. At any given time, he's usually hovering around something that's a mixture of severe depression and also a borderline panic attack.

Dude cries, like, literally, on an incredibly regular and frequent basis.

It's definitely not an act, he really doesn't see anything strange or off about his behavior and it legitimately confuses him when he gets called "creepy" because of it. This dumbass honest to fucking god thinks that his comedy is funny (now and again he can manage some 'heh' level wordplay but beyond that nothing is even remotely funny) and that he's something akin to what always reminds me of that 90s song Rico Suave.

Some of it at this point is definitely a psychological defense mechanism as it keeps him from having to face the harsh reality of his life but a lot of it seems to genuinely be shit he's believed since he was a kid: That he's an amazing, witty, charming, friendly, easy going guy and it's other people that make life difficult for him.

That attitude lines up extremely well with the narrative his mom posted on her old blog, because that's exactly how she talks about him (understandable as most moms are like that about their own kids but still). There's no possible way he didn't spend his entire childhood and teenage years being coddled and cooed over by mommy dearest, who 100% told him nothing that happened to him was his fault.

That attitude is common in most adults who had a mother that went full on coddling crazy over their kid and never allowed them to think any of their failures or failings were their fault.

So I was watching old Wern vids last night on my tv as everyone else was in bed. They were the early ones back when he was still with Suzanne. As I was watching him eat poached eggs as he casually looked down at the phone screen to see his image starring back at him it struck me why he has an obsession with videoing himself. I think when he discovered recording himself what he saw in that image was a friend who wouldn’t judge him or look down on him. A friend who looked back at him with accepting, almost admiring eyes. His perfect double. A digital narcissus pool. The one part of his psyche that would love and accept the other part people would deny or find creepy. I think he takes solace in his gazing on his own image. That person looking back on the screen accepts him, doesn’t judge him. It’s an effective coping mechanism this psychic splitting.

Then I also thought to myself as I am looking at Lucas’s giant head on the 65“ screen, watching a random persons random day from 10+ years ago singing “Hit the road Jack” obviously high as hell... it struck me just how fucking weird the internet is.
