So for anyone here that didn't know, Capcom got infected with Ransomware and had their shit leaked

I posted one of the leak dumps this morning, but after taking a second look, that specific dump seems to be related to FGC tournament shenanigans with Jon Choi, John Diamonon and Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. Might be a good read for anyone interested.

Basically, due to covid, melee tournaments are using a hacked version of melee that allows for online play (and runs better than Ultimate online play) and Nintendo shut it down.

The news has struck many with conflicting feelings. Many are thinking the series will now turn into Burqa Fighter 15: Fatal Sharia, Mark of the Haram. But I have a slightly different idea. My paltry middle-eastern lore knowledge figures that Saudis are the least religiously fanatical, and I'll let the following screenshot of the crown prince's steam account speak for itself.

He also spent over 5 digits on Dota 2 battlepasses. (archive) This should confirm he is, at least, a gamer and a degenerate weeb. We'll have to see the outcome of it all but my hope is SNK gets a budget of over 2 rice balls and a sushi roll to make games again, and they are allowed to be as degenerate as they want.

The reactions to the news so far have been pretty great.

It's always the same kind of people who bitch like this. Last time these same idiots whined about Iroha from SamSho being too sexy and revealing, saying that polygon tits would somehow scare women away from playing fighting games forever.
They've likely never touched a fighting game outside of Smash or a few casual rounds of SF5 when it first came out (before they started whining about the sexy female designs in the game). They only jump on whatever's the hot topic to get angry about before forgetting about it entirely.

Two bits of news semi-related to the FGC. The first is we finally got the announcement of the KOF15 announcement, to be revealed January 7th. In the reveal we get Kyo and the new protag, and a couple of glimpses of other characters that will probably be in the next game. The only gameplay reveal we got is that teams will be different than in KOF14, so who knows what that means. They also displayed a bunch of degenerate weeb figures in the background, which gives me hope they'll buck the SJW trend that has taken other games like DOA6. SamSho was pretty based in that regard.

The other is less game related and more lolcow related. Mike Z has crawled out of whatever cave he was hiding in. He has come out with the excuse that everyone obviously knew, he's got the tism, doctor diagnosed too! (archive) twitter immediately grabbed the pitchforks, making sure that no bigot gets away with a disability excuse. It's funny, because everyone could immediately tell Mike was special, but now that he made someone uncomfortable with his specialness, he shalt not ever be forgiven according to the twitter brigade. He should stick to making god-tier netcode everyone can benefit from like GG +R then getting publicly suspended and shamed I guess.

From the looks of it Mike has lost a lot of whatever FGC clout he had when this whole debacle went down. Only social justice opportunists seem to give this tweet any attention, the "real" fgc won't listen or retweet about him anymore. Probably for the best as it's only low-tier drama farming at this point, he's been seemingly washed away with the rest of the fgc #metoo happening. On the other hand the company LabZero has become has grown in strides after the controversy. They...made a vtuber...mascot...picture... How could anyone doubt this company's greatness?

If you play any racing game, even Mario Kart, you'll notice players gravitate towards cars and characters they let them win more, because winning is fun. There isn't a single game where this doesn't happen. And his point about the Xenomorph in Mortal Kombat makes no sense. Xenomorph is a bipedal humanoid in Mortal Kombat because no dev in the world is going to sit there and make an entirely new animation system for specifically one character. The fact a character shares an animation skeleton has nothing to do with it being "viable." This guy just doesn't understand video games.

I hate Twitter, but allowing losers who are upset they lost at a children's game to post an autobiography about why they're angry about it is one of its rare benefits.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand fighting games. The mechanics are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the fundamentals most of the fights will go over a typical player's head. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these games, to realize that they're not just entertaining- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike fighting games truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the detail in Zangief's "Spinning Clothesline" which itself is a cryptic reference to Mike Haggar's trademark move. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Capcom's genius wit unfolds itself on their computer screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Street Fighter tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

The salt of "fighting games are unplayable" is hilarious because they always treat the argument as a single-player experience, but all the arguments lose any credibility when you attach another person into the equation. They could have complained that "this particular fighting game sucks because this one character's mix is brainless/guaranteed/safe etc" but no, it's always "the game itself is unplayable. I can't do these things that my opponent can do so the game is at fault." Also saying that fighting games offer the least control over a character is mind-bogglingly retarded. At first it's "combos are too long and hard" then it becomes "you have the least control over your character" in the SAME SENTENCE. Honestly, this might be a good allegory to communism for someone with more brains than I.

To be more relatable to the argument, this is a great example of why online will always be flawed for fighting games, no matter the netcode. Games with excellent netcode are necessary and that's not even because of the pandemic, but nothing absolutely nothing will beat the in-person experience. The ability to see a real life person doing the things that are destroying you, to see their reaction when they miss something to know it stung, to genuinely open someone up and feel them recoil because they know they got got, it's all so vital to the experience. Online can never provide that experience and all the trans inclusion and alien quadruped playstyles in the world won't make up for it. There's something calming about knowing you are in the trenches with another real human being. I'll leave this point from a quote from Lord Arnis.

Honestly, I feel really bad for MikeZ. He's exactly the kind of guy who's gonna get eaten alive in the current hyper sensitive culture a lot of the internet favors. But, he also really obviously cares about and loves fighting games. The way Arcsys just fucking dropped him after he was apparently a major part of making ACPR's netcode good was quite frankly shameful, but I guess that when you're branded with whatever scarlet letter he's been branded with, you don't get thanked for anything because that looks bad.

Many people will still remember PogChamp, hell, the word poggers is still used a lot, as dumb as that term is. Banning his emote won't do that much damage to him. That said, I'm interested in how far downhill he'll keep going. I don't expect him to hit Narcissa Wright levels of a fall from grace, but we'll see.
