Notice that Lily's TL was short, repeated an old story, all Lily's posts are interspersed with commiseration on how Lizzy is literally satan, and she left it vague. Contrast with Lizzy's, which is detailed and doesn't when in context look like a targeted smear campaign.

This really shows how paranoid/crazy Lily sounds when she's not 100% in control of a public conversation. When she answers tumblr asks all she has to do is sound angry and say a shitty quip and then that's the end of it if she doesn't feel like responding again. Twitters different though and every answer Lily left reads as her acting like a cartoon villain who's rapidly loosing rapport amongst her brainless henchmen. The person she's responding to is so calm and the questions they're asking are 100% backed up by Lizzy's actual actions, thus backing Lily into the corner of only being able to claim phycological damages that Lizzy can't be provably held accountable for.

It's creepy that all these people talk the same way, it's like Scientology. I know tumblr lingo and faux-sassy faggot lingo tend to overlap, but fuck it's like Lily's dictating these. Aside from that, I think it's been noted that the only groundswell Lizzy's drummed up are people saying they feel terrible for her and that Lily has shown signs of problematic behavior. Not people frothing at the mouth.
Lily just take the fucking L dude. Say you were mean or entitled, fake an apology, and pretend to improve. It will cost you a lot less I guarantee. Imagine if Mikail and Ginger don't take these red flags to heart and end up way more abused down the line. And have way worse things to say then "She wouldn't stop sleeping around".

I do love how Ginger and Mikaila are used as "See, they agree with me, which means I'm right!" arguments, except every instance of abuse Lilly and Lizzy have spoken about happened in private settings, where the only way the two could have known about it is through Lilly's own account of the matters. "This isn't coming from a stranger or second hand information, it's coming from Lilly's fuck buddy... Who is getting this from second hand information."

And most of the people I've talked to say it's a poorly told story with a rote message that ruins a character they loved. Which is definitely not to say that some people haven't said some really stupid shit. That's why my original post emphasized most people, not everybody.
Not to derail about the game itself, but my point wasn't that this is a specific argument that's used by detractors. My point is that when people defend the game, they almost always feel a need to either call detractors manbabies who are upset that Joel died, too stupid to understand the plot, bigots, or a combination of all of them. It doesn't matter how specific or well-written an explanation for why they don't like the plot is, I have seen dozens of explanatory posts that just get dismissed by dozens more 'lol cry harder bigot'.
I'm sure there are advocates and defenders who don't do this, but every argument I've seen usually is less about the game and more about how people who don't like the game are stupid and bigoted and need tog et over it. Which, like... enjoy the game, man, but why do you feel like you have to insult people who don't?
Or the posts circle-jerking about how anybody who hates the game is a homophobe. Again, I wasn't listing a specific argument, but talking about the irony of people who don't like the game usually do so oftentimes loved the first and hate how it mistreats those character (like Ellie, a lesbian) in order to prop up a straight white woman being called homophobes. Who are they being homophobic against in this context?
The kicker is that the whole thing actually started years before the game's release, when the director Neil Druckmann said that anybody who didn't like the E3 trailer they had just released (shots of intense zombie violence cut through with Ellie and Dina making out) was a homophobic bigot. The only reason I even knew that trailer happened is because it came across my feed that a lot of lesbian fans of the first game found the trailer exploitative and fetishistic, and thus they were called homophobes and bigots and accused of lying about being lesbians and about being women at all. That was when I was informed that all lesbians are actually part of a hive mind and that not liking a release trailer was evidence that you aren't a true lesbian at all. 'Lesbian' no longer looks like a word to me.
To bring this back around: it's not an argument about the finished product. It's a marketing manipulation that tries to shame people into compliance. According to Lily, not allowing big corporation to manipulate your consumption of media based on shallow exploitive tactics... makes you a Nazi.
If that's the case, sieg heil, I guess.

I don't mean to derail either, in fact I'm writing another post and looking up citations so I'll make this quick
I've honestly yet to have a leveled conversation with someone who despises the game for legitimate reasons outside of "i'm angry joel dies", "abby has muscles" or "woke garbage reee reee reee" ...or reasons that aren't already implicitly explained like the "Joel trusts them" thing (something that takes less than a minute of basic reasoning to justify). And believe me I've looked, in fact I even had a conversation with a former Farms member that devolved into this lmfao. I mean if it quacks like a duck...
And when those are objectively the biggest criticisms the game has attracted, the biggest reason there's so much ire surrounding the game... Is it surprising that that's the reaction?

I mean, would a person who is sweet, funny, kind, generous, understanding, and an overall sunshine to be around accuse a mentally ill person whose GFM they promoted of costing them money for alienating their fans (when that's something they do every fucking day) and ban them from their discord for "fishing for sympathy" despite enabling it? And force them to draw art they're uncomfortable with? (Hope Ginger and Mikaila love beastiality just as much as their new spouse does lol)
Would a person who is sweet, funny, kind, generous, understanding, and an overall sunshine to be around actively insult their fans when they try to interact with them and implicitly name them the reason why they're dying of stress? Even going so far as to say fans bother them more than stalkers and Nazis?

Like, the biggest criticisms I've seen are about how stupid and hollow the "Revenge is bad and won't change anything" message is after the game requires you to murder your way through hundreds of faceless minions, only to stop at the one person you actually wanted to kill. How unsatisfying it is that the villain of the game walks away scot free while Ellie's life is completely ruined, and the fact that there's an extensive segment where you have to play as the extremely unlikable villain.
Maybe they actually are that delusional, but I doubt they actually believe that this is about Steven Universe. This is just like Lily accusing all of her critics of being angry manbabies who harrass her because she insulted their favorite cartoons. Strawman, ad hominem, well poisoning, whatever the proper term for it is, it's nothing more than them trying to devalue the arguments of the opposition by discrediting their character.

Her life was ruined anyway, killing her at the end wouldn't have changed that, it wouldn't have gotten rid of the PTSD and wouldn't have prevented Dina from leaving at the end lol not to mention a few things, Abby's sailing on a stormy ocean while extremely battered after both being imprisoned for months and essentially losing a fight to Ellie, and she bit into Ellie's hand that was bitten by an infected not too long prior, so there's a good chance she was gonna die anyway and 2. Abby wasn't really unlikeable, and wasn't really the villain, at least not after we learn more about her, in fact her motivation to kill Joel makes 100% sense and is no different than Ellie's to want to kill Abby. The whole idea is, where does this destructive cycle end? They both lost nearly everything and caused endless pain to people who weren't even involved due to their destructive need for vengeance.
Abby didn't even have a satisfied look on her face when she killed him lol
They even lost themselves numerous times along the way. Ellie tortured Nora (who was helpless and not resisting, unlike those hundreds of faceless minions) before she died in a brutal way akin to the way Abby tortured Joel, and Abby was about to kill Dina after Ellie begged that she was pregnant, because Ellie had killed her pregnant friend Mel (not knowing she was pregnant, but Abby didn't know that), but stopped after realizing she was essentially going to murder an unborn child in her fury.
Again, where does the destructive cycle end?
