Discord is next.

TheDonald.win's discord has been nuked.
It has always blown my mind that those people used Discord of all things to hang out and coordinate. Discord hates them and stores all of their messages. Most of them probably use the Discord client, so Discord knows a lot more about them than just what they've posted on Discord... What were they thinking??

Wise idea to deplatform the last bastions of speech that these people had, certainly this won't escalate into further violence or wind up this being turned into the new counter culture movement since all the big boys are against them.
Yeah, backing them in a corner doesn't seem to be a good idea. We’re deal with crazy militia types here & they are not just talk.

Any history nerds here?

Hopefully this doesn't sound stupid and makes sense but what are some points in time where the merchant class held alot more power then the government authority and how did the country fare under it?

A few examples off the top of my head that get close to what you ask:

Elizabethan England saw a shift and rise of merchantile power. I dont' think they were more powerful. Mainly the Ruler couldn't get funds released except from Parlement, and the Merchants (paying most of those taxes) worked to ensure their rights and representatives. Cromwell and the War of the Roses if you're curious how that played out.

Venice/Naples/Genoa were essentially merchantocracies, but in that case its more accurate to say that the government engaged in merchanting than merchants controlled the government. Everything went fine for a while, but they spent so much time slap fighting with each other, within each other, and with the ottomans that they eventually faded and finally got Sardina'd and fully subsumed into the Kingdom of Italy in the mid 1800s as part of the post-crimean war refactoring of borders.

France under Louis the.....XV or XIV; the government was deeply indebted and the creditors had the monarchy by the jibblies. Louis the XVI for that eventually turned out.

edit:
Depends on how you feel about the colonial era.

Oh yeah, completely forgot about the East India Company. Bailing out the East India Company kicked off the Boston Tea Party and American revolution for how that turned out.

What about the Venice merchant guild Era and the areas ruled over the East India Company?

Those have any parallels?
Venice, yes. They lost Cyprus as they were unable to keep the people happy because of some rich patricians dominating the government. This event kinda started their downfall from the perception that they were no longer untouchable.

East India/VOC I do not think so, but maybe someone else knows how their system worked.

I know there's a Trump thread in the Prospering Grounds but honestly every president has been a lolcow since I've been old enough to pay attention. Maybe a Community Watch general for POTUS where every living Cow in Chief can be documented - complete with crossovers. Bill Clinton is a sex pest, George W. Bush is bordering on schizocow, Barack Obama is just Bush II with a thin veneer of geek (horrorcow?) and Trump is just a normal lolcow. Biden's a horrifying hybrid sex pest-schizocow due to the senility. I guess that'd make Hillary Clinton an orbiter.
If Hillary Clinton becomes a lolcow by Kiwi Farms, I may be sanctioned for "white knighting."

Planning to cause violence is something that needs to be dealt with, if it hasn't already been-- that's not protected by free speech principles by any stretch.

I'm not confident that that's what's actually happening, though.

The thing after Trump was blocked the first time. He came out and condemned the violence at the Capitol.

Then the Press Secretary came out an condemned the violence at the Capitol.

It's like the people who run Twitter and Facebook ignore the official statements and get all their news from QAnon.

I think for Trump's case there have been really dumb fanatics following him and doing crazy shit based on their interpretations of his tweets. Look at how Lin Wood is acting crazy and what happened on Wednesday.

I think if Trump's supporters were not this fanatic than he probably would still have an account.

Personally though I think this is going to set a bad precedent for things to come especially with the CCP and Islamic Terrorists still having a platform. It's going to be unprecedented times for the Internet and it looks dark.

EIC was a conquest initiated by a private company who hired a mercenary army. Unless Google starts hiring PMCs, there's no comparison.
>accidentally say "tranny" within earshot of neighbour's Google Home wiretap
>whole street gets droned by Raytheon
>livestreamed on YouTube to ensure others are aware of the consequences of doubleplusbad wrongspeak

Don't call it a grave, it's the future you chose.
