It's just how the left operates: they'll allow anything as long as it can be spun into good PR, and only disavow when it can't be defended any longer. However, what Democrats and the US left don't realize is that while they try to dance around things and try to finesse, others are bulls in china shops and know only one way to force their agenda and mindset: brute force. And with getting rid of Trump, the Democrats are now discovering the way of brute force, and maybe even the attack dogs that they can put on leashes and sic on whoever they command. THAT is what's worrying of what's to come.
Simple: to the left, it's not enough to win. They have to destroy those that they feel are evil. They have to salt the earth and nuke everything so that they and what they stand for can never come back. And their egos make it so that they have to let everyone know it was THEM who slayed the beast and brought prosperity to many. Everyone wants to point out what they did to stand up to and defeat Donald J. Trump. That's just how the left rolls.

I'd say it's less "self destruct" and more "they never work at 100% because there's so much infighting and purity tests that happen". Look at how many male feminists get revealed to be deviants with a long streak of destruction or how the law of the jungle caused CHAZ to go to shit. If anything, the left's dream world will be delayed because of infighting and ousting those who they feel don't meet the criteria to be part of the progressive utopia, or something like human nature or science or some uncontrollable force will cause their pet projects to not match their fantasy and expectations when it comes to reality and what they get. Not to mention, the only reason the left gets as far as they do is because they have root causes of things that can be spun into good PR and politicians and leftists are slaves to optics and image and PR is EVERYTHING to them, hence why we've seen so many companies and politicians do what they do and say what they say over the course of several months, up to and including the first days of 2021. I predict that the left tests the waters to see what they can get away with, and I've long felt that the left will be the ones to boot up Minecraft and pull an OKC or New Zealand because they have the level of hatred and lack of empathy toward their potential victims needed to pull something like that off. And if anything, the Democrats will just find new attack dogs that can be put on a leash as they pursue their pet projects and head to utopia or whatever. Biden and Harris were always about flushing Trump out of the system. If they can't bring utopia, they can shine the spotlights on the ones who can.
