There were plenty of senior republicans who warned against having Trump as the nominee - but frankly the voters get what they want so there was nothing to stop Trump getting in.

But Trump will not be returning in 2024, or 2028 or ever. That is a pipedream of delusion for anyone fostering it in their mind. Big Tech, big money and truly powerful politics is against him - it is not David versus Goliath but more akin to Cockroach vs. Godzilla. The Dems do not need to do much as the GOP will pull most of the weight on this with the Democrats holding the sword, but the GOP quietly sharpening the blade.

I doubt there could be a civil war because that is not plausible, but domestic terrorism for sure over the next 4-8 years. But it won't amount to a great amount of damage. All that will happen is for every domestic act of terrorism, those committing the acts will simply erode the freedoms for us they purport they are fighting for, and both parties will approve of these eroded freedoms.

Which bothers me a little but not a great deal. Instead I propose they all go to Florida and live at Trumps compound and start their own community.

As for Biden there is not much he can do to unite the nation; but he can govern well and I imagine that is what most people had hoped for - good governance, but most are realistic about the troubles we are having and know Biden isn't there to fix that. That's certainly not why he got my vote - to heal a nation or sooth relations between Dems and Republicans. Instead, I just wanted a reasonable person to be at the Bridge as we go through the inevitable economic nightmare and heath crisis we are in for.

Per Mitch the senate will not reconvene until Biden is in office, which makes me doubt that he's getting convicted at all, or else Mitch is hoping to gain something in exchange for supporting impeachment. I did not tell people what boon to ask for. I did not say pray against others. I said you could try working for a boon

Seems unlikely. If there was proof to be had the election was stolen, the Republicans would have found it by now. More likely Trump's been such a loose canon that's accomplished so little, that whipping a mob up into a frenzy aimed at them was the last straw and they just really don't want to have to deal with him again. Nor are they keen on seeing what he might do with the privileges he'd be entitled to as a former president who served out his term. A lot of Republicans would be similarly happy to see him gone, but aren't keen on the potential precedents that would be set in punishing Trump at this point. That's probably what McConnell is weighing at this point. Punish Trump, mostly get rid of him, but risk unpleasant long term precedents? Don't punish him, risk him dividing the Republican vote next election, but avoid worrisome precedents?

The big giveaway here was the Texas lawsuit, which relied on literally no fraud at all and had all the evidence as a matter of public record, getting dismissed by the same jurisprudential shell game that the judiciary used to ignore ~90% of the election lawsuits. Sue before it happens? Too bad, claims are speculative, no standing. Sue right after it happens? Too bad, muh latches, you should have said something earlier.
