Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

My theory is this: the call of duty franchise is a unified timeline up until the end of cold war. The good ending of cold war leads to the flashback missions of black ops 2 and the mission all ghillied up from the og modern warfare. this leads to another split in the timeline at the beginning of the next mission one shot one kill. Price killing Imran leads to the mw 2019 timeline. Imran being saved by Yuri and Makarov leads to the modern warfare trilogy, Black ops 2 and 3, then infinite warfare

Multiplayer games can have tons of great lore because you don't actually need your players to react to it at all, as opposed to singleplayer games where you have to expect them to use the plot and lore to tell them what to do and where to go next ad so on.

So for a bullshit battle royale or f2p team DM or whatever the hell Cod XVII is, you can write whatever the fuck you want and as long as the kid you peeled off of Fortnite can figure out which dudes he has to click on, whatever.

Probably a good way to look at it.

"will black ops 2-4 still be canon?"

who cares? mason, woods and hudson are glorified cameos in what was clearly supposed to be the adler/bell/lazar/park/sims show.

for fucks sake they didnt even attempt to make mason look or sound like any of his other iterations in this one. i wonder why he was even included.

Overwatch is a good example of multiplayer and lore working together.

It's there if you want it. And the lore is regulated to outside sources.

For black ops fans money it’s clear this wasn’t going to be a black ops game until midway through

Gotta give Raven Software credit for adapting to the Coronavirus pandemic for Black Ops: Cold War, but it should've been delayed.

More time for Modern Warfare would've been good for everybody.

I think Modern Warfare could have easily had another year in it but Activision is never going to let that happen

Cold War isn't bad, bu it does feel like a bit of a step backwards

I know the purists hate it, but the doors were a great concept in MW2019

Why the fuck do you fuckers even play the new Call of Duties? The last good one in my opinion was Black Ops 2.
I'll be honest and say I have actually not played any of them past BlOps 1. Not even at a friend's house

(wii titles notwithstanding)

I hate to say this but you're not missing out on anything. The official canon of Black Ops 1-4 should have just stopped at BLK Ops 1. The story for 3 and 4 is just plain retarded with the over zealous use of "symbiotic AI and enhancements is the cheese" plot.

I never play the single player mode so I cannot comment on that, but there have been some pretty great CODs the past few years.

Black Ops 2 still ranks at the top of my list for best CODs but I absolutely loved WW2 though I felt six months into the game they ruined the authentic atmosphere by allowing people to run around in bunny suits and neon pink guns. For a game that had such a high degree of detail when it came to the uniforms it just seemed silly.

Black Ops 4 wasn't bad, but I had an amazing time with Blackout and some of the game modes like Heist which played similar to Counter Strike was highly addicting.

Modern Warfare 2019 felt like it advanced the game a decade with new mechanics and the gunsmith that is unrivaled in any other COD game.

I bought Cold War because I liked the Cold War era. My friends bought me Modern Warfare 2019 but I only played the campaign cause they never got on to play.

I kind of hate the future CoDs. I played Advanced Warfare cause it came with my PS4 way back in the day, and it sucked. Turned me off Infinite and Black Ops 3 and 4 tbqh.

can't really compare IW to blops, IW plays much farther in the future and it's own timeline afaik.
gotta admit I enjoyed the fuck out of IW, it had the production values and bombast you'd expect while spicing things up enough campaign-wise to the point you wouldn't even think it's cod. kinda sad it bombed, it certainly deserved a lot better.

Playing between Cold War and MW/Warzone right now is so fucking jarring I can see Cold Wars merits but come the fuck on Treyarch I am not normally this fucking anal over weapons but the fucking M79 in Warzone is properly angled when you ADS with it unlike in Cold War.

Sniping in Warzone is so much better with the Cold War weapons as well.

I get it, they wanted to make everything period correct but all of the optics have such small apertures.

Why is there a nonbinary option for something set in the 80's?

I hope this helps.
