Lol they didn't overturn anything. DC Police allowed them to wander the Capitol while shooting anyone that went near their precious senators and state ballots. A guy in horns sat on the "sacred chair". If there was a overturn people would've rushed the senate chamber and killed the personal protection of house committee. Dozens should've died in a real overturn, a real insurrection. This was just a LARP of QAnons.

Regardless, they still failed to cause any notable damage (from my understanding anyway). Like @Grandpa Simpson said, they were let in, any documents and such they got their hands on was of little value to them as they clearly cared more for the politicians' well being (hence that one woman getting shot dead). I wouldn't be surprised if they had back ups of all that shit stored for such a situation.

What even were their goals? I've watched plenty of footage of the riots and I don't see any leaders, any serious motive and no organized effort to do anything significant beyond make lots of noise. They were in the wrong, but they weren't any kind of existential threat to government at all, in any way. "Stop the Steal", "Hang Mike Pence", ring any bell? The former is a specific goal that was the very reason why they gathered, the latter was a vitriolic slogan they chanted and we don't know how serious they were about that. But given the well-documented violence against cops, I doubt any actual encounter between the mob and Pence, Pelosi, McConnel et al. would have been just a fun chit-chat-time.

The whole thing had no "leader", but the Brownian movement of large groups of emotional and tardraging masses eventually let them blobb around and ultimately into the Capitol, where they chimped out and thrashed whatever place they could find without achieving anything.

Representatives and Senators can be beat to death with a flagpole, as can most people. While not every person clamboring there like a moron was armed, there have been significant numbers of weapons seized. You do not need premeditation to be in violation of many US laws regarding breaking into government buildings with intent to harm elected officials. Footage of people saying real stupid shit in the open and obvious, with nothing to obscure their face, is being used to sink these charges.
