General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

I imagine they make a decent bit from merchandise sales. Also wouldn't surprise me if Cover sold some sort of enterprise software on the side. And Nijisanji has investments from Sony, which probably makes up a decent bit of their cash
I doubt Niji talents are as well compensated as Holo talents though. I mean there's 10000 for them for goodness' sake.

Given what we know: advertisement deals, merchandises, Superchat + membership and concert revenues, minus salaries for talents and staff + payments to artists they work with + those 3d models + let's throw in any in-house R&D, I still don't see how Cover could break even so I can see why they'd be hesitant to foot a larger share of whatever Marine is planning, or Pekora's request. For the latter, we don't really know how much it costs. It might not be a lot but it does set a precedent for other talents so it can potentially add up.

I do feel for Pekora though, the frustration can be overwhelming esp. for somebody who is not battle-hardened in office politics like Marine is.

From what I've heard, hololive superchat money goes 1/3 youtube, 1/3 cover, 1/3 vtuber.

Keep in mind that this number is revealed by coco on the spur of the moment, and the only certain is youtube 30%.

The 30% YouTube takes is certain, but the rest is just speculation, I believe. And Japan has pretty high taxes, so I assume the vTubers themselves don't end up with much.

They do pay taxes, but their income doesn't come solely from salaries / superchat. The big bucks come entirely from merchs, voice packs and the likes are the big hitter there. If you want to support your oshi, buying merch cut the youtube middleman and give them more.

Either way, most of them are either ridiculously wealthy, or at least well off enough to spend money on expensive equipments on a whim.

Has Cover mentioned how they split voice pack revenue? I know Nijisanji give 100% of voice pack sales to the talents themselves, so assuming cover does the same, we can cut that out

Booth does take a small cut, obviously not as much as youtube 30%, but enough to make nijisanji go and make their own platform (without blackjack and hookers. Missed opportunity if you ask me). I'd say we can safely assume that most of the revenue go to the talent themselves because voice pack is dirt cheap to make, unlike say physical goods which definitely took a cut to pay for the manufacturing cost of the goods itself.

Oh, that's for sure. I was discussing superchat revenue, since that's what Lord Neeba's message was about, but I assume it's not necessarily the major part of their income, depending on the vTuber and how often they stream every month.

Coco did publicly mention that Cover takes 50% after Youtubes cut.
Not that I don't believe you, but I'm gonna need a source for that, since I wasn't able to find anything official myself after a quick search.

Skip to 1:20, lol. Just kidding, I've seen the video where she also talked about Holo's cut but I couldn't find it.

I've been thinking about the whole Pekora thing and something about all this doesn't seem right to me.

So, it has been confirmed that it is most likely job related and not family related. It has something to do with some sort of fan appreciation activities, contests, whatever she wanted money for and she most likely was told "no" mid-stream.

What nobody has really talked about that may have clarified things are what was she talking about within the five minutes before the phone call? That might be related to why she got interrupted mid-stream. Did she drop info that might seem innocuous but actually turns out to have been a Big Fucking Deal?

Also, her broken-heartedness over this whole debacle seems far, far, far too severe to have been a simple, "No, you can't get the dough, stop talking about it." My suspicion is... she was working on something. Something she had thrown a lot of effort into, a lot of time, money, etc. This is not the first time someone was working on a project when management came down and said, "Sorry, ain't happening." I think something like that happened to Korone last summer, if I recall correctly. I'm pretty sure Korone was seriously bummed. At least, that is what I remember. I suspect something got canceled that she had been really, really working on.

Granted, this is all just speculation. Nothing more. Just me throwing out a possibility.

Honestly I perfectly understand management stepping into to prevent a cash giveaway, as it underminds the delicate "whales send money to get a moment of fake attention" cycle. Talent is already having to walk a tight rope in keeping the simping losers invested just enough that they keep sending their parents money while being content in not getting anything more than a "thank you". Dangling something material that the whales think they have "earned" could really send some of the less stable ones off a cliff

Oh, we probably shouldn't trust Coco's playful ramblings about the company as statements with any value, especially because I don't think she would try her luck with the contract's terms again after the whole Taiwan situation.

Nah, the video sounds about right. These idol companies run by the Yakuza are pretty rough, huh?
