Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

If this KOTOR remake looks and plays good enough and a modder changes it up to match the story of the original games (instead of whatever gay Disney shit we get about 'kyber crystals' and strong black female protagonists) I'll consider acquiring it for free 🏴‍☠️
We'll see. Be interesting if they change.

If I were to guess big changes...

*Mass Effect Syndrome. Those who played the original Mass Effect and then its progeny know it represented a massive reorientation of BioWare and its RPG style. Allot of the player customization and range of choice made available in the KOTOR design was traded in for more cinematic and controlled paths of binary Hero/Renegade moral decision making and voiced protagonist. We might be seeing a fully voiced female and male Revan with cringe BioWare expressions.

*No one likes TBC. Turn based combat isn't something everyone likes. It can off-putting to the Gears of War crowd. In this case, I'd imagine they'd do what they've done with Dragon Age. It went from turn based combat to a more free form combat. Other changes could be to take the solid, limited RPG crafting and Questing, also what was done in Dragon Age, and implement a more MMORPG setting

*"Restored content". The game was actually intended originally to have a LGBT romance between Juhani and the female Revan. I expect they will champion this addition and we'll get some news stories out of it. At the same time, there are parts of Bastila and Carth's relationship with Revan that I expect to be sanded down or removed. One additional note. A key part of the story centers around the Jedi teaching against attachments. If the changes Mantoid has relayed are happening, then Bastilla, Jolee, Carth, and Juhani's stories will all need to be changed.

*End Goals. Some people on here have defended Squadrons and Star Wars games. Let's be clear. Squadrons was a failure. Star Wars is a license. It needs to bank cash to be worth the triple A costs associated with these games. KOTOR Remake should be a money press and ultimately, if successful, can be built on. Remake II or make a whole new II and then III.

You just made the conflict make sense. The one, going into TPM, that made everyone ask the person next to them if they had gone into the wrong theater, when all the "taxation of trade route" blather started up.

If you have to pay a guy to write a novel to explain what people need to know walking in, going cold into your movie, then that is bad writing. I am not a prequel hater, far from it, but I recognize the problems with the films, and shit almighty, this is one of them.

Thanks. Lore should do that and Disney lore's problem is it doesn't.

George, I believe, figured out with the Prequels that his ideas for where he wanted Star Wars as a universe to go weren't compatible with the movie format. That's why I think he subsequently developed all those television shows before selling to Disney. Clone Wars, Underworld, and other unamed material would have allowed him to spend more time and energy universe building, which is what he clearly wanted to do. And in some ways, that's where Disney has arrived at.

That was a good post; I knew most of that stuff but hadn't gotten it summarized and connected in a cohesive way (mainly about the pirates/smugglers being necessary counter to the Megacorp monopoly). Which again, TPM:The Series would have let us have a flash black episode where all this shit got explained.

You're good. The prequels have a lot of flaws, and there's nothing wrong with pointing them out as long as you aren't willingly blinding yourself to the things they did right, especially when compared to what came after.

Absolutely. The Fall of the Republic was too big/complicated a story for eight hours.

It reminds me of an interview WCB had with an animator or whatever from TCW on his show. He talked about the Malevolence arc and how George kept wanting to do these big things with it that weren't realistic. His vision would have fit a high end television show ala the Expanse or BSG.

He could still accomplish that. With so many shows green lit, give George a series filling the gaps in the prequels. What's the harm? He's not touching anything Kennedy or Favreau care about.

Nothing at all. Ambition is half of what makes Star Wars as a series. It has to do more than just exist while retouching its old hits.

I don't know if you guys know about this thing
Who used the monkey's paw this time? (I'm Zaryiu)
Oh hey, they want to destroy the games that people remember too because they only know how to tear down and are so fucking delusional they think what they'll make and bribe people online to talk about will be [insert synergistic buzzword here].

I can almost see it now; the evolutionary mistake who handles their marketing (probably some fucker who things etsy or tiktok is the new thing since they swap marketeers like people swap underwear), looking with their FAS lookin' eyes at old responses to old products, has an idea... kinda. What if THEY made a game like KoTor?! It'd be brave... and STUNNING! And Kathy can indulge her tentacle self-insert porn in it too. It's win-win.

Then it conveys this to the amoebas that are the PR team and it gets okayed.

Oh yeah, since I'm gonna still do this:

Thought for the day: If saving those you love is important, then why ensure that everyone dies by stopping someone from doing that? Rose Tico basically loves the New Order by this logic since she tried to make sure they won.

Also remember that right after she says that, the laser smashes the wall because punchline.

New order was the political program and the ideology of The Commission for the Preservation of the New Order (COMPNOR) in the true timeline
I am not surprised that was also fucked up in the failure timeline https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/New_Order
The New Order was the official political ideology and atheistic state religion adopted by the First Galatic Empire and was enforced by COMPNOR
WTF

And the Disney fanboys like HelloGreedo and SW Explained will eat it right up until Disney officially announces their crappy KOTOR remake.

I actual completely agree. By all means, a new game would be more exciting. Would that instead of a decade (poorly) remaking classics like Rogue Squadron (Squadrons), Force Unleashed (Fallen Order), and Battlefront (Didn't even change the name) they created something new that was imaginative and interesting. Would that they would earn their stranglehold on this storied franchise.

It is a testament that a remake of a game from twenty years ago is more exciting and potentially profitable than the product of the combined creative forces of Lucasfilm.

It's also what came directly after Joy Division, IIRC.

This is a good point, and I hadn't fully realized it before, how purely visually Lucas likes to operate, even from the beginning.-though I think this has probably even increased over time. So much so that lots of times, to his detriment, it's "fill the details in later." As an example, in this THE STAR WARS ARCHIVES book I've been going on about, he even tells the interviewer this. He describes the famous opening scene this way, as well as the Death Star run: as a visceral image that he is trying to bring to life. He says:

"I always see images flash into my head, and I just have to make those scenes. I have an overwhelming drive to get that great shot of two spaceships, one firing at the other...by God, I want to see it. That image is in my head, and I won't rest until I see it on the screen."

Of course, early on, he was able to bring in other writers to help with his deficiencies (as well as make the dialogue more snappy), which, sadly, wasn't the case for the Prequels, as we all know.

But, one thing Lucas has always been completely honest about is his shortcomings as a writer, and his talents as an idea and visual man (it seems like around the time of the Special Edition, he was often referring to himself as an editor). At one point, while discussing the re-organizing of the scene in Obi-Wan's hut (where Leia's message originally came first, before giving Luke the lightsaber), he admits:

"My writing's terrible. It's garbage. Make it into a movie...? (laughs)"

I lost track of where i was so i tried to continue from page 1000 but that ended around the time THAT movie came out and it just hurst so damn much going through it again, anyone able to advise what page to go through to around the leaks for High Republic were happening so i can reduce the pain please

So a Goblin, Jesus, and Chewbacca are usually followed by the words "walk into a bar" and the joke is over in under a minute. It's not something to base a whole multimedia franchise off of, SNL had to learn that the hard way.

Hey, remind me. Isn't this "media project" called High Republic basically a pathetic mix of books and comic books that you have to buy in sequence for a story you don't want? Because Disney is so fucking bad at it that they can't even feed their media slaves a good headline or idea on dafuq it is really.

Also thought for the day: If George Lucas got angry and sued Battletech for calling itself Battledroid first, why then did he rip off the opening to the First Succession War? Right down to having the periphery of the known big power be the flash point and motivator for said crises?

I think that was also a tm thing, and if you don't sue over tm you risk losing it?

No, it's a dickwaving thing in this case, since he was suing over "droid". He sued over designs later on since there are a few classic designs clearly based on AT-ATs and AT-STs.

Also by this logic he should've gotten into a fight with Google over their phone OS being called that but he didn't. He just did what GW tried to do with Space Marines, but picked a softer target since FASA basically just got out of the dumpster behind the UNO's they were in since it was their first successful game.

While it is weird to call it a religion, there is a real world example in the form of North Korea’s Juche, which reveres Kim il-sung and by extension whoever is the leader of North Korea like a god.

In Legends and Disney, the Empire is only around for almost 30 years. That’s hardly enough time for people to start viewing their leader as a god, but give it another generation or two and people would start praying to Palpatine.
