I thought that I might as well go ahead and share my experiences on Roblox; it was a big part of my life (as silly as that may sound), and it was to the point where I got income from it (as silly as that may sound, too). Some of the stuff that I will be sharing here seems to have already been said, but I will try to introduce a new perspective for the subject at hand.
Bob Pieron (NobleDragon) - the admin that followed artists who created porn of furries - is actually the
Director of Trust and Safety - Learning and Enablement Manager at Roblox now. You can see it on his
LinkedIn.
RubenSim is still being banned by Roblox's admins for making critical content offsite; he mentioned in a video that his girlfriend got banned because her account was associated with his IP address.
The stuff that I have seen with the furry games surprised me. I had no idea any of that occurred.
The incident where they banned Ugandan Knuckles for being "racist" left a bad taste in my mouth, and made me wonder why I developed on the "Imagination Platform" if they were that sensitive.
They later closed that thread because they could not handle the criticism.
The broader community of developers always championed women (regardless of what they said or did). Women's rights is a subject that I never stopped hearing about while developing on the platform.
This picture was taken at RDC 2019 (Roblox Developer Convention 2019; yes those are a thing). I am sure you will be able to see why I decided to post this picture given the above statement. I believe there might have been some meltdowns because a group of women got third place in RDC 2018's gamejam.
I suppose I should take the time to grace you all with the multi-billion dollar platform's hit single: Create.
They played this at the "Bloxy Awards" of 2018. The Bloxies are just a popularity contest; whoever is the most popular developer at the time of the show wins everything. Granted I have not kept up with them for a year or so, but I would not be shocked if things were still the same. For 2018 specifically: the game "Jailbreak" won a significant amount of the awards, and one of its developers (Asimo3089; none of them cared about Badcc, sadly) snatched up a lot as well.
Things got particularly heated this summer, and I think I made the right decision leaving given my own values and how politically homogeneous the community of developers became. Politics should not have even been a factor, but it has to be shoehorned into everything these days.
I was on the platform for more than a decade and was involved with a lot of communities, so I could probably share a bunch of different stories if any of you are interested. One of you mentioned a server that I was particularly close with; try not to dox me if you recognize me. ;>
