That's a trait I've seen a lot in people who support the modern left, or at least the internet ones I've discussed politics with. Their specific argument was usually a variation of "it's okay to have a morally bad or corrupt person in power as long as they pass laws that encourage the population to be good", their logic being that the laws force a lot of average people to be good while the politician is only one person being bad. It's some really assbackwards logic that completely ignores the long term consequences of corrupt leadership but I think it explains pretty well why Bob and people like him don't care if the people they vote for are openly corrupt as long as they give them their gibs and make it illegal to misgender people or whatever.
