If her parents actually got divorced, would either of them actually be legally obligated to take custody? I mean, she's in her 30s, and unless I'm remembering wrong she wasn't found unfit to work, so if her parents got divorced and neither one of them wanted to deal with her anymore, they could just both lock her out of their homes and she'd be SOL.

Not to almost double post, but I feel like Stephanie might have a point, particularly in cases where the disabled person isn't actually hurting people, but are unfairly killed by police officers using way too much force (like when they killed a caretaker of an autistic man who wandered into the street, or murdered a guy with Downs Syndrome at a movie theater instead of letting his aide take care of the situation, or killed someone who they were called to keep from killing themselves, etc.) There's a fear in dealing with disabled people, obviously, but there are genuine miscarriages of justice and situations like these shouldn't have to happen.
