Fuck everything.
I'm lucky to be an adult (I'll stop from powerleveling further.) Imagine being 13-22 years old right now.

Also, I'm seriously Pressing X to doubt on 75% of the population agreeing to get vaccinated sort of making it China level mandatory.

Edit: This doesn't take into account that the vaccine by any measurement lasts only a few months.

Fastest way to get called a nazi/killer/tinfoil hatman/irresponsible and so on is to say to people that at some point somebody needs to make a decision as to what number of covid deaths +/- some thousands that society can absorb, each year and is deemed acceptable.
That starts the frothing, but the boil over happens when you mention the numbers that die every year, from all the things people die from, and that the person you are talking to probably didnt give a thought to apart from the fashionable thing they did once, like running 5k for cancer, in a pink t-shirt.
If you really want some abuse then start saying things along the lines of, "we have to face it that this new kid on the block is probably here to stay and society really needs to accept x more people are going to die each year, from now on in, and we need to start doing that asap. I can."
To get double tapped, in the forehead, you just have to follow with a fun(ding) fact, "of course; it will mean we will have to increase hospital capacity so there will have to be an increase in taxes, to pay for it. You will have less money to play with but we will be looking after sick people better. If your grandma ends up bad with it then at least you know she is looked after properly. You want that don't you?"

Shut up you grandma killing Nazi. Don't you know that there's millions of old Baba yagas dying out there because of the coof

A lot of normies seem to believe virtually all restrictions will be lifted by June or so. They will be very very disappointed but most people are cowards so I predict they will shit themselves and do nothing.
My mother-in-law, a devoted, gullible Biden supporting normie, is convinced everything will be back to normal by Easter.

Last time I was on the phone with her, my husband and I were like, "... Which one of us is going to tell her?"

lol.

My church, the one place on earth that was my safe haven where I could hang out with a normal person for 10 minutes without a mask on and eat a cookie and have coffee and talk about life and wave at people's babies, even if we technically were bootlegging the cookies and coffee while the pastor looked the other way, is cracking down on covid shit because of orders from up the chain of command, where sits a guy with alcoholism, a god complex, and nothing better to do than to literally watch all the livestreams Monday morning then call and complain about "covid violations."

If I had the technical know-how to hack their youtube channel and permanently disable it, or the guts to destroy the damn camera, I would feel less suicidal. I realize I am having "guy on a desert island seeing other people as hamburgers" tier distorted thoughts. But it has been almost a full year now. Everything else that made life fun has been taken away and all that is left is this skeletal shell of chores to sustain life, putting food on the table, increasingly futile attempts at directing attention away from psychic agony, and attempting to sleep. There is only so far you can get with "just read a good book bruh" and "just watch another series bruh" because people were not meant to be left alone on desert islands. I don't want to be dramatic but I literally don't know how I am supposed to keep going like this. Every time I find something that makes it just barely tolerable, some terrified germophobe or control freak rushes in and takes it away.

Just cool down good buddy!

You know you are being fucked with.

The best part is that you have a whole universe and network of other people that realise this too!

It's not easy. But it's doable.

There's all kinds of weirdos all over this world.

You have the best 'support network', evah, in this little community.

It's not so bad.

You'll make it through.

And you'll laught about it all too at the same time!

And Evers just did another executive order mandating masks again.
There need to be hard limits on a governor's emergency powers and ability to create executive orders.

Emergency powers are supposed to be a temporary measure, for them to go unabated for nearly a year leans dangerously close to authoritarianism (and to me shows how much they corrupt our leaders). And executive orders being able to immediately overturn court rulings (practically the will of the constituents) is a gross misuse of power.

At this point, my recommendation is for these governors to resign, they've shown that they can't handle more power.

Hearing some crazy stories about Hong Kong and the 'ambush' lockdowns. Absolute madness. Wherever you are and whatever you are doing that is where you stay when the barriers go up. Shoppers
sleeping on the floors of shops, office peoplesleeping in their offices and so on. The state of that place now.

Are there any kiwis on the ground in HK?

It doesn't matter if they just ignore the laws.

They stay seething over the fact that Florida has done what it's done and said what it’s said and and has fared no worse and actually better than most states, at least as far as we can tell from down here actually living in Florida.

Maybe it‘s just that it’s hot and humid and sunny and the virus hates heat, humidity, and sunlight, guys. You can just tell yourselves that. You don’t have to keep salivating over how FLORIDUH IS DEFINITELY GOING TO HAVE RAGRETS THIS TIME! and then going silent when nothing particularly bad happens and hoping that you’ll get us next time. It’s not a good luck, honey, it’s an ugly look. We are not going to have regrets because our schools are FINE and our tourism industry might even survive. YOU have regrets and tbf, it looks like in your cold dark high population density cities, our way may not have been possible for you. But there was no reason for us to choose a worse outcome by adopting irrelevant protocols. We are doing better than you WITH our schools open and WITH our ancient population and WITH our high numbers of non-whites and WITHOUT our entire service and hospitality sector permanently destroyed. I know that’s a tough pill to swallow, but swallow you must.
Yeah, they said the same shit about Georgia after we only got a *gasp* 2-week lockdown (you know, like they promised?).

But for real I am wondering why the state-hate shifted to Florida over Georgia, when we opened first and were set to be the state that brings coof doom on its citizens.

Also there is this now-deleted tweet from an ER doctor.

Wait so all I have to do to opt-out of the vaccine is just not wear a mask?

Georgia is now the state that saved us from Drumpf while Florida was always going to be an easy target because haha Florida man dumb.

In another thread, another Kiwi and I discussed smug people. This doctor comes across as smug and there will be those who might feel she deserves to be taken down a notch because of that.

It's frustrating when church higher-ups drink the liberal Kool-aid and go all in with the talking points and doomerism that come with it. Luckily, my church's only restriction appears to be a limit of either 25% or 50% capacity. Our Bishop is a bit out of touch with some stuff, but he thankfully doesn't obsess over congregations' live streams. Fortunately, my church's camera is mounted in the balcony music loft, so he wouldn't be able to see much beyond the altar even if he wanted to.

My parents think one of my sister’s friends is basically the reincarnation of Hitler because he runs a speakeasy barbershop from his living room and moonlights as a delivery boy to make ends meet. I’ve pretty much lost all faith in humanity at this point.
I can understand their feelings if he is operating in violation of any local prohibition. Otherwise, I say who cares as long as all involved parties are following whatever safety protocols they want/need to follow. With options for making money slim right now, I wouldn't think less of anyone working 2-3 part time or gig jobs to make sure they have enough money. It's telling how many people want to take down others just for trying to do what's necessary to stay afloat financially. *sigh*

lol all these people showing their vaccination cards like some kind of hero or some badge of honor is kind of cringe.
It comes across as a lame tryhard flexing attempt. It also falls back on my prior comments about being smug and it also illustrates one of the key reminders on this site: If you have to post about how better you are than everyone else, chances are you aren't.

Not Hong Kong but I remember hearing, that a friend in China spent the night before lockdown with a Tinder date, and got trapped in her building for three days, cause they locked down so hard they woudn't let him out. This was back in March though.
