It also makes more sense that the tax guy is pressuring Phil early - he has now seen how messed up Phil's situation is and is likely wary of an audit. He might actually be looking out for his client, and Phil is on stream saying his life isn't based around taxes like this dude. Fits the bill that he'd shit on someone trying to keep him on track.
I'm sure the tax guy has had some retarrrrrr-idiot show up on April 14th with a shoebox full of crumpled papers asking if he will be able to finish the return in time for April 15th. So it's probably a standard practice for people with anything more complicated than the most basic tax situations.

BTW, DSP showed his desktop again guys (Bugged desktop mechanics much?)

This explains a lot.

Receives a $2 tip to jump him all the way up to $27, followed by a DEEP SIGH... "Maybe ill have to go a little later and I cant work on my taxes tonight which really fucking sucks, cause I wanted to, but it looks like im not gonna be able to now."

Edit: He said this dumb shit because of a possible 15 minutes of "overtime". This is what a scammer does. They lie and manipulate, and they do it with little tactics like this. So fucking disgusting

Pretty sure this was for one of the indie marathons, back when those still happened.
As for the cash wad... well... Phil needs to surround himself with the religious iconography that he worships.

We're currently getting OT to finish a dungeon and because of a brief power outage. This means that Phil will have to forgo working on taxes tonight. So there will be at least another week of late starts because of the taxes, I'm sure. Scopely will no doubt corroborate his story.

EDIT: Phil is going off on his audience for complaining about the game. He says they say everything is boring, nobody is happy with what he plays.
Remember though, Phil is a variety streamer and people support him no matter what he plays!
Until tips slow down, then they are all nagging, entitled pricks who do nothing but complain and won't support him.
Funny how quick that changes when the money slows a little.

"sucks that it was slower, I don't know why. Like I said, the game has been doing good as a main stream. It seems like every night stream now, I don't know what to do. No matter what I play at night, nothings good for a night stream".

gee, well WTF does that tell you? maybe its not the game, asshole!!

I cant believe he's saying these things with no self awareness

Edit: also, what happened to "I cant go late anymore" because of your cheating whore wife's schedule?!? Its almost like you lie and say anything in the moment when it comes to money.. 🤔

He just flatly complained that he went late and there was 'nothing he could do about it'.
Admittedly, he was stuck in a dungeon. I would have probably seen that through before cutting stream. Not that it has stopped him before, but whatever.
Then he spent 10 minutes in menus, and now we're fast traveling to watch a story cutscene. So he could have left.

He's just blatantly trying to guilt his audience into tipping while he massively stalls on ending the stream.
He was asked why won't he play divinity original sin and went on rant saying people don't like any game he plays and always complain that the stream is boring. Phil they paid you to play you disengenious retard, he complains that no matter what he plays no one is happy ignoring the fact he got paid for it months ago.
His fans should be well aware that they are expected to cover thousands in subs to get the game, and then, if it is a 50 stream playthrough, they need to also pony up $5000 over those streams, or else the game was a failure and it shouldn't have been picked - they're stupid and selfish and don't consider the stream.

I side with Phil on this one. They absolutely deserve this abuse.

EDIT : We just ended at $31. Remember, assuming that Phil was not hiding tips, this means he is completely fucked. At the start of this stream he said the internet bill is coming due, and he needs tips to cover it!
So if there is still internet in 5 days, what exactly happened?
Great question, it certainly wasn't Phil lying and feigning distress or anything. And fuck you for asking.

Last quote for the night

"we have about 15 mins left till my wife gets home, I guess I'm not doing any work on my taxes tonight. it is what it is".

its so obvious that he's lying and "working on taxes" is code for WWE champions. You tell me what's more likely. $31 in tips means no working on taxes, or $31 in tips means no spending on mobile games??

How does someone who literally needs the internet to make his living not have a UPS set up for his router and electronics?
Well, it's simple. First of all, he needs to get a new laptop, chair, PC, maybe a greenscreen... and he can't do that until after the hardcore gaming season/tax season/summer/COVID/ever, so it would have to wait until after that.

And then, what, those cost $300 for the absolutely top of the line with unnecessary bells and whistles? That means we'll need to fundraise at least $1500, and that'll need to be in tips, preferably one tip all at once. And cheers at or over that amount won't count because they aren't immediate.

And then for about 4 months, you'll be banned if you ask where the UPS is.
On the 5th month, Phil will ask why you keep asking him about a courier, because he isn't expecting any packages.

Is it reasonable that it would take him hours of work to get his taxes ready?
I believe it takes him some time, because of his stated habit of collecting up a Santa sack of receipts and dumping it on his tahx guy's desk.
I'm willing to bet that whatever deductions he manages to shave off that way are outweighed by the cost of having the guy read through all that garbage.

Phil opened his stream tonight saying that he spent 45 minutes working on his taxes, and will do so again after.
Someone help me out here, as I don't own or operate a small business/scam in the US.

Is it reasonable that it would take him hours of work to get his taxes ready? Consider the following factors as well:
1. He has a 'tax guy' that... does something in this equation
2. He has already been paying his quarterly taxes and as late as September, renegotiated a payment plan for his back taxes
3. Receives much of his income through Paypal and Twitch which should be able to provide documentation
4. Has made no visible purchases that differ from previous years for the business, outside of the PS5 and a couple of headphones

I feel like a lot of this info should be readily available or should already be somewhat up to date. I have no doubt that he has done no prep or organization to make it easy, and I know this is mostly a cover to turn up late because he is mired in his gacha, but I'm just curious as to how insane this claim of hours upon hours of compiling spreadsheets is.

Sidenote: He is currently complaining that the day stream stepped up for Fenix, but the night stream is 'slow'.
Ignoring, I guess, that whales specifically asked it to be during the day so they could contribute last time. Those goal posts are on wheels... like so many Robs...
Okay. Sorry if I am making this too patronizing, lets pretend itll educate some lurkers too

Phil needs for his taxes:
His income sources, dont know if paypal and twitch give you some sort of clean number like a regular job does. But they must right

Now the hard one, all of the stuff he can claim as a business expense to write off. This would be receipts and junk. For anyone not aware, businesses can write up what it cost them to conduct business and essentially subtract it from what they made. Because while your records will show you made 10,000 this year, obviously its not fair to tax that as 10,000 of pure profit because you are buying inventory and keeping the lights on. This is also where taxes get really complicated because the government will be all over the place on how this works, as to advocate for certain businesses and industries. Not important for Phil, but if you've ever wondered because you are a NEET or a foreigner or a foreigner NEET. Now you know. This is what can take time, because he claims that office in his house. So he could be working through internet bills and power bills and gathering up receipts for game purchases.

Now I do believe this mush head does need a lot of time for this. Especially to finagle shit. Like, oh I ate that burger for DSP tries it writing that off. Obviously, not as much time as he claims. But unless you have a really good tax guy, he has to come up with numbers before taking them to the tax guy. Its the tax guys job to say, and going back to the exceptions thing, to go back and forth with Phil. Like Phil will say. 20% of the electricity I used was my office. Based on square footage. I had 1000 in electrical bills all year, so I can write off 200. Then its the tax guys job to go well actually the government only allows 150 to be written off because of some law that they passed to stop people pretending to be small businesses for tax write offs. Obviously all these numbers are just made up for simple math.

There. Hopefully some weirdo can use this info. Phil isnt being a complete charlatan. Its a lot of work, but he is still being shady af and exaggerating because he is a fucking e-thot.

Question: if he's paying a tax guy, could he not just provide his electric bills (as an example) for the year to the tax guy? Isn't the tax guy's job to process this information for Phil? Like, I could log into my electric company's website now and download a PDF of every month's bill from the time I started paying for the service. That would take me all of a few minutes to do.

Everything you're saying about digging up receipts makes some sense, but for the overwhelming majority of his stuff, he should be able to get to electronic copies pretty easily. Even stuff like his game purchases should have digital receipts available.

Maybe I'm being unfair, but it really shouldn't take him all that long, especially since he's been doing this for going on 12 years now.

It doesn’t even make sense, why is his wife getting in the way of paying taxes? Surely mister mature, married adult DSP understands sometimes you gotta do important work over sitting on the couch next to your beautiful wife...only an immature idiot would complain about adulting instead of lounging around with his gurl

He'll also be up until at least 2am his time. Can't do anything in that time?
If Kat is such a divine being and supportive soul mate... why can't she help him throw some numbers into a spreadsheet while he organizes receipts? She only works part time, this seems like something she could do to give her hard working husband a hand.
Once again, Kat not only seems to contribute nothing, she actively interferes with things running smoothly.

Kind of makes you reevaluate why the retrospective saw him watching testicles popping on repeat...

It would depend on how good of a tax guy he has. Like a really good one, would be doing that yes. But its busy work, Phil doesn't "have a guy", he at best has a number to a desk at like H&R block who really only exists to just double check his numbers and like I mentioned make sure he is following the law. Like that example I brought up where you could only take so much of an exemption.

For example some of you old hands might recall that he got behind in the first place because he had a Connecticut guy doing Washington taxes. This obviously sounds stupid. And it is stupid, because that is the reason you have a fucking tax guy in the first place. To know all the laws and shit.

To make a nerdy reference a tax guy is like a DM in D&D. A guy who referees the game play and makes sure the players are following the rules. To make a much more accurate, yet horribly nerdier, he is like a referee in the old Kriegspell games. Where he is checking all the scoring and keeping everyone following the rules while the government and the average person play the game.
