i recently started to replay tales of symphonia and to this day, its still the game with my favorite cast of characters. everyone in the group has something to offer in ways of combat or story but the glue that keeps them together is the man in red, Lloyd Irving.
Loyd is a bit different from other main characters. he has a strong sense of morals but hates the word justice, he is an idiot but a natural genius. Lloyd is an odd guy when you think about it. he was found in a forest as a toddler, raised by a dwarf and ended up using two blades instead of one because he thought one more blade would maximize his power output (again, an idiot). in a game that deals with themes such as religion, racism and classicism, Lloyd is the kind of guy that dont want to bring order to a lawless land but wants rather people to understand eachother. he says it himself that he dosent want to force people to like one an other, that its ok to be different when it comes to ideas or birth. trying to make people understand and accept those that are different. of course, people call him a fool, an idealist for it but that dosent stop him from trying. it goes as far as people willing to not only fight but die for the world he wants to create. again, Lloyd hates the word "justice" because that word gets thrown around by people as an excuse to do awful things to one and other, realize that the world is not as simple as black and white. he wants to save the without having to sacrifice the lives of his friends and when people do die, it shakes him to his core.
overall, a faulty but well-rounded character that dosent feel too forced or preachy.
