Fat Acceptance Movement / Fat Girlcows

If someone ever finds themselves typing "folx" in anything but jest, they should just walk away from the keyboard/laptop/phone and take a mental inventory of themselves. Do they really want to be that person? Really? Just stop and walk away! :optimistic:

In addition to the obvious red cane (#Fatshion), there's a C-PAP hose holder perched over the bed, clamped to the top right part of the off-white headboard.

See that metal rod curving over above the height of the pillows? Looks like an old antenna? The hose for her C-PAP mask (for her sleep apnea machine) attaches and hangs from it so the hose doesn't get tangled up when this #PlusSize #Spoonie rolls around in her sleep.

You can search "cpap hose holder for bed" and find many examples.

And what's that in front of the cart next to the bed? A half full 2 liter bottle of something that's definitely not water.

Because when you have medical devices hanging over your face all night so you don't SUFFOCATE ON YOUR OWN NECK FAT IN YOUR SLEEP, you want to have a nighttime chaser of purple Fanta or whatever corn syrup drink that is. But go ahead and hashtag this picture #DisabledandCute

Wtf is folx?
Isn’t that just folks and folks is for everyone?
I don’t get it
No, "Folks" with a "k" isn't inclusive anymore, so sayeth the SJWs, thus they use the x at the end of "folx". Everyone who doesn't is a bigot racist ablelist classist misogynist transphobe genocide-with-words Nazi. And god forbid you should ever say "Hey, you guys!" in a coffee shop in Portland.

Thanks for the explanation.
Academia is a fucking mistake and needs to be nuked

If you search for "folx vs folks" you'll find all sorts of nauseating SJW bullshit. My personal favorite "explanation" is:

Folx vs. Folks: Why is "folx" more inclusive than "folks"?

Why is "folks" not gender neutral?

Some articles suggest that "folx" is more inclusive because it is gender neutral. This explanation has drawn criticism, as skeptics correctly point out that "folks" is already gender neutral.
The reason we need "folx" in addition to the gender-neutral "folks" is to indicate inclusion of other marginalized groups including people of color (POCs) and trans people.

How can "folks" be used to exclude marginalized groups?

For people who belong to these marginalized groups, inclusion cannot be taken for granted. If you want to indicate to those groups that you mean to include them, using the word "folx" can be useful shorthand.
^ That article is much nicer about it than the average Tumblrite or university Queer Studies professor will be, if you type the dreaded exclusionary K.

Why the hell do so many people have these things? I almost never heard about them growing up and now I see them everywhere.
I remain befuddled - what is it about the use of 'k' in 'folks' that is such a no-no?
It's not about the k, it's about the x. (Similarly seen in Latinx when "Latinos"/"Latin" already exists).

CPAP machines and all the associated sleep studies are INSANELY profitable for the medical industry. The machines are very simple, from an engineering and manufacturing standpoint, but the ones patients are prescribed cost thousands of dollars. The sleep studies and doctors who review the data also charge insurance companies big bucks.

I'm not saying people with sleep apnea don't need CPAPs, I'm sure they do. But there's definitely a push to get every fatty and old person on one because $$$$$$. Then people have to keep replacing the hoses and masks, and they're also $$$$.

I know someone who has one, and I think his initial sleep study billed his insurance 3k for the sleep study and the basic machine, then he needed hundreds of dollars in accessories. He's supposed to replace the mask parts and hoses twice a year or something. It's a fucking goldmine.

Once you go CPAP can you go back-back? I've always gotten the impression once you have one you're stuck.

In context tmi pl re cpap reversal

Yes, I needed one briefly before a surgery, now I dont. That's all I'll say without too much no1curr detail. It sucked, I hated it. Felt like I was suffocating. I can't imagine needing one long term, especially for something you can control like weight

To be fair, sending random fat people links about dangers of fatness is pretty stupid. They know how dangerous and painful their lifestyle is, they just don't want to admit that their lives would be infinitely better if they weren't deathfats. Because the reason they are fat and miserable is somehow everyone elses fault.

Seriously, I still don't get it. Folks is already a plural and gender neutral, how does the x change this? Even from an etymological perspective it makes no sense. Let's compare "the folk" to the cognate word "das Volk" in my native language German. Since we still have all three grammatical gender (Never try to explain to a gender studies professor the difference between grammatical gender and social gender, it's fruitless, as many linguists had painfully to experience), we can infer from the article what gender the word has: The article for "Volk" is "das" in German and is the neuter form. So "Volk" is a gender neutral word. Additionally all words in German are gender neutral in the plural: "Die Männer" (the men), "Die Frauen" (the women) and "Die Kinder" (The children). I "somewhat" can at least understand that retard feminists don't want to use "women" because it has "men" in it. But where is the "men" in folks? It almost seems as if wokeists just want to disrupt language because they want to use power for power's sake. But this can't be, right? They're about social justice, right? :c

It's the grammatical form of pretending to have a mental disorder for attention - social signaling, not much more to it.

The attempts to 'un-gender' languages which have gendered nouns is also plain and simple an expression of mostly-American ethnocentrism dressed up as "being a good person." I somehow don't think Angela Merkel found herself particularly offput by being the Bundeskanzlerin as opposed to the Bundeskanzler.

Honestly, a lot of the insane and ridiculous shit is just 'I think my worldview should be reality,' as proven by the fatties here that seem to think that the human body will be subservient and compliant with their desire to eat 3-4k calories a day just so long as they tweet about it. So too is the obsession with language a feeling "I am superior, the world should get up to my standards" and therefrom comes the comical ethnocentrism.
