There was an interesting argument in the comment section of this Escher Girls post. Because iwouldfly gives a long critique of an artist's redraw, they get upset. There's also an argument in that same thread further down) about whether a character in an erotic superhero comic should dress "impractically" and them iwouldfly finally responds.
Considering the Tumblr said it was a porn comic, why would there need to be a debate on something that was created to be fapped to? It would be more understandable to do a redesign if this was a superhero comic that wasn't erotic images but since the comments point out it's a porn comic then what is the point? Also, doesn't this comment sound passive agressive in the first paragraph, starting with "when you comment here again"?
"When you try this again (and I hope you will), go into your analysis asking what the purpose of the piece is and whether or not it's effective in that light."
When you comment here again I hope you will consider the purpose of the blog and the commenting guidelines, specifically the ones regarding not trying to take it over and make it your own pulpit.

The blog is not about theories of composition or giving artists who botch anatomy pats on the back because you found a way to interpret their layout as significant, it's about showcasing trends in how women are represented in media like comics and video games.

I feel this needs to be posted considering they keep trying to re-draw fucking porn now.

The chainmail bikini tumblr that @Yaoi Huntress Earth mentioned had a page where they took a jab at Diana from the Shin Megami Tensei games due to the design having a bunch of breast. One thing to note is that a comment actually pointed out that Diana is a sort of parallel to Artemis. The SMT games do take their own versions of dieties and such. Odin is a purple skinned guy in one of the games, God is a floating yellow head, and Satan is a sort of snake demon with fours arms and breast, and then there is Mara.
Actual statue of Diana, 16th century:

Kaneko Kazuma does his homework, tumblrinas think homework is triggering.

And they're getting triggered over how Mara is portrayed and thinks it's insensitive to Buddhists, never mind that Kaneko might be one himself (disclaimer: I don't know anything about Kaneko, the guy's pretty reclusive).

"B-but pornography is reinforcing unrealistic standards of beauty, so I need to correct it!"

(:_(

Several reasons, from my experience and mullings at least:
  1. Piss-poor attempts at combining wacky cartoonish-ness with grim realism, resulting in an unholy mishmash that is more unsettling than it is an aesthetically pleasing style.
  2. The desire to buck the "beauty trend" in cartoons and comics--wherein the characters are usually drawn to look as good as possible--and make them look frighteningly hideous for "representation" or something to that effect. Because screw "da man" and good taste, rebels are all about doing things that go against the norm and rebellion is cool.
  3. They don't bother learning proper anatomy first before diving head-first into drawing. Either because they don't have the resources to learn the basic foundations of the human body (which is a flimsy excuse, because there are free videos, tutorials and e-books all over the Internet to help out budding artists) or they're too lazy to bother.
  4. Since some of them are emulating the style of other, more popular artists, they're too busy cribbing what makes those styles work while also copying their mistakes. Because if that artist's drawings get thousands of notes then surely the same can happen to you, right?
Reasons 2 and 4 annoy me the most because it's really obvious in most redraws.

Good job, Escher Girls.
The porn and cheesecake submissions are the dumbest ones because they're intended to be sexy.

"I don't think I've drawn FP in a while, so."
It would be much more legible without either the unlikely typo or meaningless question marks, but Tumblrites love to make their text just as ugly and inaccessible as their art.
Most SJWs like to use the question mark for no reason
Example "I came here to have fun and I'm feeling so attacked right now???"
I don't get it either but I see it alot

...And that's where we disagree. I see no appeal in most Tumblr artists' drawings. It just looks ugly and unappealing.
The difference between ugly appealing art and their art is that it's obvious they tried to make big noses and stretch marks, body rolls, saggy body parts ect.. Appealing, which is obviously close to impossible.
They intended to draw the unappealing parts appealing, to try and show that fat, manly women that don't take care of themselves are attractive. They inevebly fail, and to pull the whole "I WAS TRYING TO MAKE IT UGLY" crap to hide their hideous failure

I meant Basil Wolverton's art; not the tumblrtots.

I was about to correct myself when you stepped in... heheh... Sorry.

You can't make people who don't take care of themselves attractive. It's impossible, no matter how much Tumblr will protest.

Imagine a vapid teenage girl who ends all her sentences with a questioning tone like she's not sure what she's saying.

Every time some Tumblr-tot types like that I always end up reading their words in Kelly's voice

I think that "intentionally ugly" art can be done well if the motives behind the style were more oriented towards a sincere passion for (lack of a better term) hideousness. If you really love the unconventionally attractive then it will come through in your art, and thus your art will have a charm of its own. Sure, your art might not be the most palpable around but at least you're honest in your artistic pursuits. Examples below:

The examples posted above may not present the most beautiful styles around, but there's heart behind them. The average Tumblr-tot who attempts to redraw popular characters as far from their original designs as possible aren't in it for the art, they're in it for the notes. To gain admiration from other like-minded individuals who refuse to be part of what they perceive as brain-washed sheeple, we who are so enamored by shallow and hollow beauty.

Plus, these artists actually know the basic foundations of art, whereas these artistic-wannabes are going in with their eyes solely on the little note counter at the bottom left of their posts, and to gain cred among their peers. The disingenuous intent is what really gets me.

And what can I say, I've been amused by this trend for quite some time now that I've actually had time to think it over.
