Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

I'm sure everyone has seen this legendary piece before but I think it exemplifies how even Twitter leftoids, socialists, commies, tankies, and anarchists are diseased with terminal consoomerism

It is incredibly easy to find ethical alternatives to many different kinds of products. How about instead of buying an iPhone you get a Fairphone instead? I spent 10 seconds searching for "ethical cellphones" and got a fucking result. Wowzers! Now all the champagne socialists can cancel their plans for an iPhone 13 and get one that respects workers rights! And if you think the system is shit and it all needs to burn then go find someone who'll take you on as cheap farm labor or start a commune like the hippies did. Grow your own fucking food and break away from the classist, racist, colonialist AmeriKKKa and work to undermine it by not participating. It seems the siren song of plastic shit and daily Starbucks is too alluring to have any strong political beliefs

Edit: To find this incredible comic I searched "that shitty capitalism comic" and it was Google's 1st image result. Glad to see even Google knows how dumb it is

I will never, never understand the crave for a funko pop at a mass level.
I have three Funko Pops. Two were gifts and one I bought for myself when they first started making them. They're okay as gifts but I genuinely don’t understand why there’s people out there who collect these fucking things. It’s just a lump of plastic that sits on your shelf (still in its box if you’re severely autistic) that does nothing but collect dust.

Amiibos are just as pathetic but at least they offer something more than just being dust collectors. I can somewhat understand people collecting those (especially since the price of some of them can double/triple on ebay) as you can use them in 3DS/Wii U/Switch games. They have a use to them, even if it’s shit and not worth the price.

But Funko Pops? I don’t think I’ll ever understand the hype for them.

Chris is the #1 Amiibo consoomer. Although his constant failed recoloring in an effort to create arbitrage shit all over his face in the end. Now he just has walls lined with Amiibos.

I wonder if someday down the line he'll turn into one of Those Guys with walls and shelves and floors filled to the brim with Funkos..

I can’t believe how much of a consoomer Chris is considering he lives on welfare/benefits. I’ve never understood how he was able to buy so much fucking crap. I know he used credit cards but how tf did he manage to pay them off? I’ve seen a lot of his Lego and that alone is worth thousands (not now, it probably stinks of cat piss and BO) and the fucking Amiibos... holy shit, those aren’t cheap either.

The amount of money he’s spent on toys and tat could have been saved up in a savings account for Chris to have when Barb dies but nah, he needs his toys now. He must CONSOOM!

People have wanted useless items as decoration since people started existing. Lots of people have figurines of items or places or people they like.
What becomes sad is when you’re collecting just to collect, which Funko people do.

Or I went on the Funko subreddit, and I see a post of someone feeling ‘successful’ because they purchased a rare Pop, someone feeling ‘proud’ of their large display of Pops. It’s a way to replicate having actual achievements through consumerism.

I never got the appeal of Funko Pops either. I have three myself, but they were all gifts and are stuff I actually like. They're okay to look at at first glance, but they're soulless plastic that's mass produced. Why anyone would spend a few grand on them is beyond me.

I honestly wonder if Nendoroids, or any other type of figurine, are just as bad as Funko Pops when it comes to consoomers. Nendoroids are more pricey, but it looks better than a Funko Pop.

All this "limited drop" garbage has to be the ultimate consoomer scam. Turn wasting money into a privilege and you can print money on demand. Condition your paypigs with fear of missing out. Make them buy your "entire stock" on day 1 and then watch them rip each other off on the second hand market like its the golden age of ebay again. This model works across all types of products from electronics to fashion, even limited edition junk food. Of course consumers could just use a shred of discipline and boycott this predatory sales model but we all know that ain't gonna happen because I can't have members of my social circle look down on me for not buying the newest shit that "everyone" talks about. Bonus points if you post photos on your social media of choice to let your fellow paypigs know that you have great taste and money to burn.

I’m pretty sure cars had seatbelts before Kanye’s time.

I have no issues with people collecting things. Coin collecting and stamp collecting have been around for a long time. I’ll be honest, I like to collect antique/vintage/retro toys and coins. I’m a giant fucking sperg when it comes to vintage shit.

However, I just can’t wrap my head around these grown ass men, collecting hundreds of (cheaply made) plastic toys and displaying them all over their house like a mental patient smearing shit on the walls to decorate their padded cell.

Uh oh, one more and you loose the right to vote ;)

I somehow doubt a lot of consoomers even have jobs or keep down jobs, let alone graduate high school.
They probably spend their tard bux or moocher bux on nostalgic media trash hoarding.
I always assumed these people were a mix of trust fund kids and kids who came from middle class households but work at Starbucks (since they have no skills) and run up a big credit card debt as a substitute for a trust fund since they assume their parents will pay for it.

Apple consoomers are absolute garbage and help make sure Apple can churn out a new phone every year and rip you off with their planned obsolescence bullshit. No reason you can't just use an old-ass smartphone for years on end (except for Apple slowing your phone down with updates to make sure that you too become a consoomer).

I love how Funko Pops are the poster child of consoomerism. They really do embody everything wrong with people's worship of brands. They're ugly mass produced plastic garbage that has no appeal visually or practically other than saying you own an entire set or a large number of them.

Even cheap scale figures put their hideous design to shame.

There's a highly consoomer hobby I watch that also has a lot of communist type people in it. They love this comic and post it anytime someone suggests maybe buying less stuff if people care about the environment.

Isn't there a saying popular within commie communities,"there's no ethical consumption under capatalism"? How do you hold that to be true and justify CONSOOMing?

They like that phrase too and use it basically the opposite of what you're thinking - because there can be no ethical consumption under capitalism, they're justified in continuing to consume, because we live in a capitalist system so it doesn't matter what they do. Everything they consume is unethical so you might as well consume everything that you want because it's all already unethical.
Probably not the original intent but that's literally how people use it.

usually a lot of rationalization - just look at that one dumbass comic someone earlier on the thread posted that basically is used to say "WELL I JUST HAAAAAAVE TO BUY A NEW IPHONE". they usually use one of three excuses:
-no ethical consumption means no ethical consumption. to consume anything under capitalism is unethical; therefore, it ultimately doesn't matter what they do/buy
-said items they're buying are Necessary (almost always a lie; sure, you could argue that you need a phone to function in modern society, but what you don't need is the new phone that costs a thousand dollars)
-"Why don't you want poor people to have nice things?"
