[February 2021 - ????] DSP Tries It: Divinity: Original Sin II

I mean - if you are comfortable playing with KB+M there is definitely no reason to use controller; I go back and forth on the PC depending on whether I want a surface on my lap (for KB+M) or not. My biggest gripe is that the UI layouts aren't separate: switching between the two requires rejiggering the abilities layout. Other than that, if all you have is the controller - this version is much improved over the first game (managing bags is about the greatest headache I ran into).

He won't stop bringing up that he has never played a game like this before, and will need handheld through everything. Everyone was new to Divinity at some point, and I will bet that close to zero of them needed nearly as much handholding as this.
Maybe he has really deluded himself into believing that being told what to do is making him learn. I don't understand how this guy can play games non-stop for 10 years and still be this awful at them.

Phil has explicitly stated that not only does he hate the game, but also that "people will really need to support him." Which means he expects to make $100 every time he streams it.
People already paid to make this playthrough happen, and now they're expected to open their wallets again. For funds that will later be memoryholed. Again.

That to me has always been the most fascinating part of DSP.

DSP has been playing video games nonstop as a career for 10 years, and not only does he not play any better due to experience, he actually seems to be playing worse.

I really think DSP's attention span or his cognitive abilities have sharply declined, especially in the last two years. Any boss that isn't immediately "Rush and press X to attack" is immediatelly labeled a "puzzle boss" by him now.

The take away from today is DSP is uncomfortable with change. DSP was complaining about Divinity being different and not fun until someone brought up Fire Emblem: Three Houses when he bitched non stop until about the halfway point and then he got the hang of it (HA!). His response was, "That's correct I didn't realize I liked Three Houses until after I played it and learned the rules and strategies. Divinity isn't fun and I shouldn't have to learn its strategies as a new player, when the game doesn't explain anything" Well Phil maybe its one of those things where you....learn, as you play the game. *gasp* shocking I know!:o The horror, the nerve of them creating a unique game concept and making players learn as they play the game.

Anywho, cant wait till DSP drops this game

I wasn't expecting this game to have about a dozen classes. I want to play a mage class (because I like pointing at things and watching them explode) but I want something with staying power. Most games with magic classes, they tend to break pretty easily.

game lets you do essentially whatever you want. if you want to be a mage in full plate armor and a shield there is literally nothing stopping you. just pump a lil strength for the plate.

To me the game is fucking boring. I don't see the hype in it. Played it for a few hours and it just sat on my hard drive for months until I eventually deleted it. Its probably one of those games you have to immerse yourself into and then 42 hours in the game gets amazing. I just don't have the time anymore and only play through those games a few times a year when I know the series is good.

thank you for sharing that with the class.

Hey, if it's not for you, it's not for you. It's not like we expect DSP to enjoy and be good at EVERY genre of game. But he's an entertainer, nominally. Even if a streamer is playing a game they hate they should be able to make it entertaining. DSP is categorically incapable of doing that, despite a 12 year beggacy and explicitly stating his experience with RPGs, real-time or turn-based, since Diablo II.

has he even escaped fort joy yet?
He hasn't even cleared any rooms inside. I think the only groups he's killed are the stuff on the front side of the island (Voidwoken, the crocodiles, some Magisters).
